My parents have a great backyard. I spent a huge amount of my youth hanging out in that large expanse of lawn and garden. Even as an adult I spend quite a bit of time out there when I visit.
For a big chunk of my first decade as an “independent adult” I lived in dorms or apartment buildings. Not much of a back yard and I missed it. Later I bought a small house, but it had an almost useless backyard. Even the house my wife and I bought when we were married didn’t have the most usable backyard at first.
Over the years we added a brick patio and worked on the gardens. Now I spend a lot of time out there.
These pictures were all taken over the weekend. Most of them were taken from the patio pointing towards the flower garden or the vegetable garden (the picture of the Black-eyed Susans).
Hope you enjoy a summer weekend in my back yard!

This may come up twice…Wow. I thought the pictures were lovely and vibrant. I especially loved the one of the black butterfly. I think the photos you took of the hummingbird at my house were better than yours, although yours are great. I believe your backyard is prettier than ours.

Thanks! I got much better pictures of the hummingbirds themselves at your house, but I like them with the flowers better than the feeders. Our back yard is much smaller than yours and very pretty in a different, more New Hampshire way.

It’s a Boxer’s job to make his humans smile. We miss our Shih tzu, but Fiyero takes so much of our time we often forget to stop and think about her.

Thanks Ali! It is a great place to sit and ignore the puppy as he actively destroys the garden.
