Summer

Sunset 19 June 2014 – Swan Pond

Firefly crayfish
Salamander frog
Romping through the woods
Jump over a log

Went to the pool
Got there on my bike
Rode to the store
For some candy that I like

Rock skipping stream
Hitting shore afar
Out past twilight
To wish upon that star

Forever in a day
Just acting like a fool
Eternity today
‘Cuase I’m outa school

Firefly crayfish
Salamander snake
Summer is made up
From the moments that we take

Do you remember those endless summer days from your youth? How in the world did we pack so much fun into so few hours? The world was ours to explore and every day was a new adventure.

Every so often I’ll have a long day in the good way. I’ll lie in bed and look back. For a moment I’ll be that 10 year old kid who just caught the last firefly of the day, elbows and knees dyed dark green from grass and weeds. I’ll smile as I fall into a well-deserved sleep.

May tomorrow be such a day from our youth.

Hi Trent, Its a lovely poem, Your poems, haiku or otherwise describe the beauty around us, in nature, in small things of everyday life, and the joy that they bring to us very beautifully indeed:).They describe the lighter side of life (mostly) and Its always brings me joy to read them. :)

Thank you Pranita! I’m not much of a poet but I try to have fun while expressing myself. I’m glad that you catch a little of that fun. You often plumb the depths of your feelings with your poetry so I am glad you can relate to my poems that are a little lighter in spirit.

Ah, that’s really lovely, Trent – I particularly liked the ten year old kid bit, very evocative and touching.

Thanks Ali! As they say, there’s a child in each of us and occasionally I like to let my inner child take peek at the world through my eyes. Or, perhaps I should say I like to look at the world through his eyes.

Of course I change the poem 4 hours after I posted it and after it has garnered more “likes” than my average post. Oh well, I hope I didn’t ruin it.
