If We Were Having Coffee – Blogaversary Edition

Coffee

Hello! Welcome to my little coffee hour. Looking at the cup you may notice I’m currently on Cape Cod. No, the cup on the right’s not Batman, it’s a drawing by Edward Gorey who lived a few miles down the road.

This is a very special coffee event. A lot is going on in my corner of the blogosphere. Today is my one year blogaversary. Yes, on November 1, 2013 I put up my first post. It was a tongue in cheek piece about all of the great ideas I had come up with only to see someone else make them reality.

I think I’ve come a long way from that first post. My blog is still pretty random, but I think I’ve carved out a place to express my creative side in several different mediums.   I thought I might post a short story on a rare occasion yet I’ve now posted around 50 of them. I knew I’d occasionally put up a photo or two. I’ve posted hundreds of photos. I’ve also posted dozens of pencil drawings and computer/pencil hybrid pictures. I’ve also put up a lot of music, but only one newly written piece, the rest being older.

One of my biggest surprises with blogging is how social it is. I’ve made quite a few virtual friends from every corner of the globe.

Most of my top posts received most of their traffic from the search engines. The others were posts that friends shared on Facebook.

Besides my blogaversary, yesterday was my birthday. Interestingly, the number of views on my blog has dropped drastically in the last week and I was wondering if October would end up being one of the worse months in a while. Margaret-Rose (M-R) Stringer fixed that by sending people over to wish me a happy birthday.

My numbers also spiked today, but I’ll save the reason for another post.

If you didn’t notice, I wrapped up my Frank series yesterday.  I loved writing the stories but thought it was time for Frank to become a real boy and live life on his own, not on my blog.

As I said in another post, I’m planning on spending much of November doing a rewrite of my book, The Fireborn.

This was a pretty good week. As I said, I’m down on Cape Cod but the weather is lousy. I’m still enjoying myself.

Well, thanks for stopping by for a cup of coffee!

Note – I’ve seen the “Having Coffee” posts several times, I think starting with Part Time Monster, which now is often hosted at Just Gene’O. I also see it every week at Nerd in the Brain and often on Thoughts by Mello-Elo. It’s a feature where the “host” gives an informal talk about their week. This is the third time I’ve tried it out. I may do so again in the future.

Thanks! Yes, Edward Gorey is great. About 10 miles from my “camp” there’s a little museum called “The Edward Gorey House”. The house itself was the last place he lived in Yarmouth MA.

Hi Trent.. Happy Birthday and happy blogaversary.. :) Its always a pleasure to stop by your blog because in your words “its random” but I would say its fun with so much variety, whether it’s the stories or the poems, they have always expressed not only the lighter side of life but also so many complicated emotions and situations with much simplicity. Happy to have made a virtual friend such as you.. :)

I’ll have the Beatles mug please. Congratulations on making it through the first year. How clever of you to time it with your birthday. (Yes, you did. When you were having your birthday, we were marking your anniversary. I think. Time zones…. Whose idea was that anyway?)

I have an assortments of Beatles mugs. You can choose almost any of their albums…. My birthday is Oct. 31. Last year I decided to start blogging on Nov. 1. I just looked at the first post and found I made a mistake – although I started my WP account on Nov. 1, I didn’t put up the post until 11/11. I had forgotten that I hemmed and hawed over the first post for over a week… Oh, well, to me my blogging experience started Nov. 1 even if technically the post went up 11/11.

Oh, well then it would have to be Sgt Pepper, thanks. Come to think of it, I’ve got a Beatles mug. It’s the White Album.
I think you pick your anniversary as the one significant to you. WP sent me congratulations on the anniversary of my signing up but I ignored it and went with the date of my first post. (No one will know…)

If we were having coffee – you would have to find a decent pot of tea to serve me! And cookies – I want cookies! Or perhaps some great cheese and grapes. No – chocolate – hot chocolate with lots of whipped cream and marshmallows (OK the hot chocolate’s only purpose is to melt the marshmallows) Can you tell I’m hungry?
Anyway congratulations on sticking with this for the full year – and now that it is an ingrained habit (addiction? LOL) I know we have many more years of keeping up with the workings of Trent’s mind through his blog!

I can do tea (Teavana even) or hot chocolate, though no marshmallows at this time. Cookies, grapes (maybe) and cheese can also be had. And pure dark chocolate. Yep, there maybe years more of these random ramblings.

Thanks M-R! Yep, it’s been a busy couple of days around here. When you say, “mark it with a new Gravatar,” do you mean I should change my profile picture? Maybe Trent with the trumpet and hat goes away and Trent with the wild hair shows up?
