My Reading List, Your Book

Illuminated

I don’t bring it up often, but one of the reasons I started to blog is because I wrote a book. I haven’t done anything with it beyond taking it out and doing a new revision on occasion. That’s not the point. The point is since my blog is supposed to be at least in part an author’s blog, I follow quite a few bloggers that are authors. Unfortunately I haven’t read many of the books these bloggers have authored.

Well, that’s about to change.

A few weeks ago I decided I’d start reading some of the books offered by my fellow bloggers. I’ve read one and am half way through the second one. There are a few more sitting on my Kindle that I’ve recently picked up from Amazon. And I have my eye on others.

If you’ve read my blog for any length of time you may have seen me whine about, I mean complain about, I mean describe my lack of time. OK, I’ve whined, that’s why I haven’t put up as many “I don’t have time” posts lately. I hate whining in public. What that means is it may take me awhile get to your book and once I do it might take weeks to read it. But read I will. Or at least I’ll try – there are a lot of books out there!

I’ll try to let you know what I think and leave feedback on Amazon. I may even start doing some reviews here.

Anyway, time to stop writing and start reading. Have a great 2015!

You know what I have just the right book in my mind for you to review!! Wait for it till Monday, you will know :D

And that is a very humbling gesture on your part Trent to take time to read the books belonging to this community. I remember when I came across your blog for the first time you did mention the book you’d been working on. It’s still on my mind. I hope one day you give all of us a chance to read and review your book on our blogs because we would love to do that! :)

Hmm, some new book on Monday… OK, I’ll wait patiently.

I always feel bad when a blogger mentions their book and everyone pipes up in the comments about, “Oh yes, I remember that in your book. Fantastic!” and I think, “hmmm, well since I didn’t read it….” Well, now I will.

I want to try to get my book published in the traditional way, I just have a hard time sending the query letters to agents, which is the first step.

Haha, Oh don’t feel about it if that’s what you mean. You shouldn’t feel obliged to read everything. Read whatever interests you, Don’t be so hard on yourself about it :)
        I’m sure everyone understands :)

And Good luck with the book, I hope your book get in the pipeline soon! ;)

I won’t beat myself up if I miss something or get half way through and say, “That’s not for me.” But I do want to try, at lest for a little bit. Trying to get the book out there is one of my big goals for 2015.

That is an admirable aim, Trent. But promise me you won’t beat yourself up if you don’t quite manage it. Life always gets in the way of good intentions, I find.

However, I am going to try and take Neil Gaiman’s advice in his New Year wish this year: “Try to make your time matter: minutes and hours and days and weeks can blow away like dead leaves, with nothing to show but time you spent not quite ever doing things, or time you spent waiting to begin.”

Happy New Year, Trent! I hope it’s a productive one. :)

With my reading going in fits and starts I’m sure I’ll miss someone. I’m also not sure what I’ll do if I find something I don’t like at all. I’ve mentioned to few people that I’m reading their books, but, for the reasons you mention, I don’t want to make a commitment and set myself up to fail. But I’ll try to get as many in as possible. From some of the things I’ve said you may realize I’m in the middle of M-R’s book…

I hope you have a great New Year and that you can look back at the end of the year and see more than all of the dead leaves that were blown away. (that’s such a great analogy)

Great idea Trent, hope you have a fabulous 2015, I’m in the middle of reading Hilary Custance Greens’ Borderline I must remember to leave her a review when I’ve finished. So important for independent authors. I don’t read enough but I do buy books as gifts for friends and family, best wishes to you, Charlotte

I need to read more and what better way than to support independent authors? I may start doing the same for music too – I follow at least a few people who are selling their music online, everything from folk to rock to classical vocal/opera ; ) I doubt if I’ll ever sell my music, but I still like to support independent musicians.

I’m singing four American folk songs for my exams this month 😁. It’s not difficult to put tracks on Amazon the hard thing is promoting them, the big sellers for example won’t let me put my music in Classical they’re in Pop 😳 so for a day I was between Taylor Swift and Cheryl Cole lol.

Amazon set the price Trent I’m not sure how 24 would work, maybe two separate albums I put mine on download to try to raise some funds for my Masters course, if I get accepted next year, or for onward singing training. There’s a 3 month lead time too.

I checked out Amazon and, at least here in the US, I need to go through a 3rd party. I’m not sure if I’d be able to recap the fees the companies charge, but they put them on quite a few services including iTunes. I would be able to do it as an album if I decide to go for it.

Thinking of albums, I did pick up your album on Amazon and am listening to it as I type.

Thanks so much Trent, try Reverbnation, just one drawback it takes about four months before the money comes through which isn’t an issue for me because I’m saving all funds raised for my training. Good luck 🍀 Best wishes Charlotte

Thanks, I’ll look into them. I started with CDBaby because I know the name. They’re by far the biggest. Their prices aren’t that bad, it was mostly sticker shock without thinking it through.

A very wise decision, Trent! I’d hate you to get into trouble courtesy of Ali-porn! I shall probably become a pariah in my own village ere long…
