Last year was our first winter with the cottage on Cape Cod. We visited quite often even though it was a much colder and snowier winter than usual.
And then there was this winter.
Remember my post about the Foss-McDonald Glacier? If not, go back and take a look. Yeah, it was that bad.
We were visiting the last week in February. Most of my favorite places to walk were inaccessible. I finally went to a different beach than the one I like the most. One problem is it faces south. Why is that bad? It means if there are birds in the water I’m taking pictures directly into the sun and of the bird’s shadowed side.
Still, I think I got a few decent shots. Of course many are of my favorite model, Fiyero. Remember to click on a photo to bring up a larger version.
wow – what a great collage – and brrrr – but I really like the way you spaced them and how the pop of color is placed…

Thanks prior! It was cold and snowy, but I had a great time, and as you know, any time behind the camera is good time.

Love the pictures Trent. Hopefully, next winter will not be as cold as this winter was for many of you.

Thanks Amy! Usually the little Sanderlings flit by but a few them came real close without a glance at me.

The wind blown trees give a good idea of what it was like when you snapped the pictures.

That’s one problem with the Cape – it get’s windy! I think what you’re looking at, however, is the top of some sea grass at the edge of the water. I took some pictures of them because I love the gold color against the blue sky.

I was reading blogs on my phone so the pictures are really small! Sea grass makes sense!

Understand. I often do the same and it cane be hard to tell with the small pictures.

I like all of these! The venus shaped shell, ice on the beach, scallop shell…..all of them. What a great sharing of winter there.

Thanks! Sometimes I think of winter as being a boring season for photographers, but then notice some of the little things.

A friend of mind thinks of it as the most interesting season. She mainly does b&w and is always finding something new or a different perspective.

Yes, new perspectives. There is also a lot of stark contrasts in the winter and longer, starker shadows. so I can see why a B&W photographer would love it.

Lovely photos. The moon is definitely a wow shot! I had never seen a Venus in a shell before….well, maybe once at a Chinese grocery store. What a weird looking thing!

Thanks! The outer part of the shell was broken off but I think what is left looks a little like the figure of a woman. Since there are pictures of Venus on a shell (think Botticelli), I let my imagination go a little.

I much prefer Botticelli’s Venus. They print that painting on socks now. I’ve seen them at Hudson’s Bay, lol.

If I ever go off the deep-end and become even more eccentric than I already am, I think I’ll get some Birth of Venus socks and wear them with sandals, most likely Birkenstocks.

Great pics, Trent. Please tell me that isn’t a frozen wave though?

Thanks Sue! No, not a frozen wave. However, just a few days before I was walking this beach they filmed a slushy wave on Nantucket, about 30 miles due south of where I was standing (the water in front of me is Nantucket Sound) – http://www.weather.com/news/news/nantucket-waves-slush
