If We Were Having Coffee – 10/17/15

Morning Coffee

Hello and welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a large mug of a very strong French Roast or a cuppa tea.  If you have coffee you may notice the slight flavor.  Last week I opened a container of Italian Roast.  Only, once I made a pot I discovered it wasn’t Italian Roast, it was Italian Amaretto flavored coffee.  Yuck.  I have it 1 scoop of the Amaretto to 15 scoops of French Roast and it is still ultra strongly flavored.  Besides the flavor of the coffee, you may notice the spicy tinge to the air.  More about that later.

Those who read my coffee posts often will know that I am in New Hampshire.  Yes, that cool white Moog Voyager in the picture is in my New Hampshire “studio”.  Here is a photo I took out of my upstairs kitchen window on Wednesday morning.

Out the Window

I love Cape Cod, but the colors aren’t quite the same as they are in New Hampshire.

Thinking of “The Cape”, I spent a log weekend down there last week.  I took a day off of work and so was able to relax more than I’ve been able to my vacation in late August/early September.  It was great.  I can’t wait to be back down again, even if I have to work.

On my way home I stopped in Milford Massachusetts for lunch and a very long walk on their excellent rail trail.  The weather was perfect and the leaves were gorgeous.  I took a camera with me on the walk.  Pictures are coming, along with some pictures I took Wednesday in New Hampshire.

This was a short work week, short but busy.  A lot of the type of things that make this shy introvert uncomfortable: I needed to find the right people to do some jobs so I had to call around, making cold calls to people I don’t know.  I know, that is part of the job and I had to do it in the other positions, but I’ve been doing it a lot since i started this new position!  And people have been doing the same to me, which is almost as bad because I often don’t know if I really am responsible or, if not me, then who?  I love taking on new responsibility, but there are stresses involved ; )

Anyway, at home I have also been busy.  There are animals, birthdays to celebrate, work around the house and other such things.  There is also the Penny Sale.  This is the largest fund raiser for our Lions’ Club.  I will go down to start setting up at noon today and will get home at around 11 PM.  This year I’ll be one of the MCs.  Yes, another good job for a shy introvert ;)  There has also been a lot of prep-work, including making beans in a crock pot.  Now I’m not a big bean eater, but people like my beans.  So the whole house is filled with the aroma of the spices I used as the beans have simmered for the last 24 hours.

Blogging has been weird.  i was behind early in the week because of traveling.  Late Monday I put up an Autumn themed poem about the cycle of life.  It is a rerun from last year.  On Tuesday I wrote a real quick poem about about the tides and the passing of time. (Yes, 2 poems this week.)  On Wednesday I posted a humorous (I hope!) look at some of the search terms that got people to my blog.  For a Throwback Thursday I wrote about my cat, Claudius.  He was great!  While looking for pictures I was humming a song i wrote for him, which I had to find and include.  Later I took a bunch of pictures of Claudius and made a video with the song, putting up a second post for Thursday.  On Friday I posted a new creepy story.  It is a celebration of the month of haunting.

Anyway, that’s about it.  i need to go and get ready to spend the day working.  At least it’s for a good cause.

And how about you?  How has your week been?  I hope it was good!  If you do a coffee post I’ll try to catch up most likely on Sunday or Monday, though no promises.  If you don’t do a coffee post, perhaps you should consider it ;)

Your house must be quiet up in the hills to capture such a beautiful picture as that. I hope the things at work become easier for you! Have a relaxing weekend, good luck with the beans, I’m sure you are a really good cook ! ;) :D

Thanks for the coffee Trent. I am with you on the Amaretto flavor though.
Glad to see you are doing well and I love the picture out your window. Fall has to be one of the best times of year. The colors are wonderful.

Thanks for stopping by! Autumn is my favorite time of year. I like the cool but not yet cold weather. Well, today is cold – I saw snow flakes about an hour ago. And, of course, I love the colors.

Thanks for the coffee Trent and even more thanks for the photo of those emerging Autmn colours through your window.
I am quite an extrovert but cold-calling is something that nobody seems to enjoy. HOwever, if people are calling you and looking for business, you needn’t worry. You’re in demand and it could be a hell of a lot worse..ie cold calling.
If you miss my blog this week, you’ll be missing out on Vegemite toast. Perhaps, I shouldn’t mention that and say that I’ve posted more Tim Tams. I’ve seen people more enthusiastic about having root canal at the dentist than trying Vegemite. Personally, I can’t understand it as I slather the stuff on Saos for a midnight snack.
Hope you have a good week and start settling into the job soon xx Rowena

I did see the Vegemite pictures. Yes, that “no-thank-you” version is what I’d do. The one that looks like the Exxon-Valdez ran into it? no thank you ;)

The calls are all within my organization – though saying my organization means like 10,000 people. And at least I’m not selling anything…

I’m planning on putting up a fall foliage post tomorrow. Today is gorgeous but I don’t know if I’ll make it outside with the camera.

Hope your weekend is going well.

Thanks very much Trent. I’ll check out the post. The kids returned from their scout camp last night. My son was covered in bruises, scratches and was exhausted and wanted to stay home from school. I did feel for the kid but I didn’t think he could spent the weekend at camp and then miss school. I’d also like to see him become more resilient.
Wow! The company you work for is huge. I’ve tended to work in small business. Indeed the bulk of Australian employers are in small business. Take care xx Rowena

I have been wondering today if he’d been mauled by a cat and sustained similar injuries, would I have kept him at home and given him more sympathy? Probably. I have this idea that when you’re a Scout, you got to tough it out. My daughter does Scouts as well and I’d say the same to her. Indeed, my husband accidentally washed her log book last night and it’s in a trillion pieces so there’s a life lesson there for her as well. And my husband. The books have been designed to go in their top pocket but obviously haven’t had any swimming lessons! Will keep my eyes peeled for your post. The time difference has been quite helpfu. I get away with posting weekend posts on Mondays. xx Rowena

A couple of weeks ago I decided to wash all of my shorts. Sigh. Summer is over and I doubt I’ll get much use out of them. Anyway, when I opened the drier it was filled with the bags I use to pick up dog poo. Hundreds of them. I must have had two rolls in every pocket of every pair of shorts. In other words, I have sympathy for your husband on the forgetting to check pockets thing ;) If most of your audience is on my side of the world I’m sure you can get away with quite a bit. I have the post scheduled to go up in a little over an hour – 8:15 local time.

What kind of spices do you put in your beans? I’m not much of a bean eater either but I do make delicious chilli. I might see if I even have any beans so I can make a pot today. It’s that kind of weather here in Portland.

Every time I make beans it’s different. With this batch I used a lot of cumin. I used some sumac and turmeric. Then a dash of garlic and a little ginger. A bit of coriander and several shots of Tabasco. Not spices, but a ton of molasses, spicy mustard, and ketchup. They don’t really taste spicy at all, but the house was very fragrant! Yes, today is by far the coldest day here since last winter.

My son is in preschool, and they’ve been talking about chlorophyll. This makes car trips interesting, because every brightly colored tree gets him explaining how trees change color again. Sometimes this happens four or five times per trip.

Oh, so you’re the one person in the world looking forward to mid-November when the leaves are all gone ;) Of course I’m sure he’ll have a new one by then. “Look, snow! We learned how snow is formed in the clouds! First…”

Maybe I’ll make a large pot of the amaretto coffee without cutting it with French Roast just to get rid of, ooops, I mean just for you ;) Thanks! I hope you’re having a fabulous weekend!
