If We Were Having Coffee – 10/31/2015

Coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice strong French Roast!  I also have an assortment of teas if you’d rather have a cuppa.  Oh, and this is “untainted” French Roast! (I talked about “tainted grinds” last week)   I assume it’s a beautiful day here so I am out doing stuff.  Why assume?  For the first time ever I am writing my coffee post on Friday night and scheduling it to be posted in the morning.  If things are good I plan on leaving the cottage first thing in the morning and going out and spending most of the day away from the computer.

A few orders of business to clarify that last paragraph.  By the picture some of you may realize that I am on Cape Cod this weekend.  Yeah, now you may get why I want to be outside!  Also, I doubt if anyone remembers from when I announced it last year, but today is my birthday!  So,explains why I don’t want to spend my whole birthday sitting in front of a computer, though in the end I bet it still happens.  Oh well.  One thing I know, there’s always a party on my birthday, only I’m usually not invited to it.

I know I sound like a broken record, but it has been a busy week.  One thing, I changed hours a little so I start an hour later.  Not a big deal, but that means I get home an hour later.  I’m not going to bed much later (I was getting far too little sleep), so I lose an hour of free time a day.  Work has been delightfully busy, which means I have few breaks to sit back, relax, write, read, etc.  I’m doing work business 100% of the time instead of, say 80% like in the recent past.  So no more reading the blog when I’m on a break because there are no breaks (OK, I take 2 walks a day to stretch and think, but NOT read).  Sounds trivial, but it adds up.

One down point of my limited time is I haven’t been writing as much.  So my blog has been mostly reposts.

This last week I put up quite a few reposts of scary/spooky/creepy/supernatural stories to celebrate Halloween.  I started the week on Sunday with a repost of a short, slightly humorous zombie story.  On Monday I reposted a story about an early spring hike gone wrong.   Tuesday I posted what many thought was the scariest of the bunch, a repost of a story about something found on the beach.  I brought back the first Frank story to start Wednesday (Frank was a popular series my first year of blogging).  I finished out Wednesday with the voice mail message from hell.  On Thursday I had a repost of something I put for Halloween last year, something that digs up history back to the Salem Witch Trials.  I woke up Friday wanting to write and post something.  I had a few ideas, but nothing written.  I sat down and very quickly wrote a social media story.  I then put up a quick story about spiders (sort of)  Later I wrote and posted a story about a trip to the cabin in the woods.  I have to admit that I didn’t have a lot of time so these were written as quick as I could type and posted immediately after, typically 15 minutes from first word down to being posted.  I hope they came out as creepy as the earlier ones.  I think so, but I’ll let you decide.

So, wow, I’m assuming I’m outside right now.  Perhaps walking on Chapin Beach or running on the rail trail.  Maybe I’m taking a long walk in the woods as you’re reading this.  But of course, you’re with me and we have our mugs of coffee or tea, so I hope your enjoying this nice cool Cape day.

And how about you?  How has your week been?  I hope it was good!  If you do a coffee post I’ll try to catch up most likely on Sunday or Monday, though no promises.  If you don’t do a coffee post, perhaps you should consider it ;)

Thanks! Yes, I spent a good portion of the day day outside enjoying the fresh air. As we said in other comments, the weather has been great so there’s been no reason not to. It’s always great to find new blogging friends. I also look forward to getting to know you!

Happy happy birthday. Sounds lovely. very impressed that you make sure you get way from work to stretch your legs twice a day – those desks have powers of persuasion that are hard to break away from!

Thanks Abby! Yeah, I have to stretch. If I miss a walk during the day I feel awful. There are days when i have beck to back meetings, so I can only sneak out for 5 minutes between, but I’ll get that 5 minutes in!

There were only a handful of times I missed not having the camera. My phone does a pretty good job with huge panoramas, but awful for anything else, it’s just this side of a fish-eye lens. In the summer when there are a lot of birds and things, I can’t go without the camera…

Happy Birthday Trent. I’m going to be nice and not make you a Vegemite Cake. I’ve never actually heard of such a thing, let alone tried it but I am a bit curious now. I have had Vegemite chocolate and it wasn’t too bad. It was like a Cadbury Caramello with the Vegemite mixed in a given how I spread the stuff so thickly, I barely noticed it but my husband did.
Instead, I”ll offer you some Pavlova or chocolate cake.
We’ve had a good weekend and it’s now raining and lightening is flashing all around me. This room is 3/4 glass with a clear roof and now I feel like I’m out on the water in a boat. Thank goodness there’s no swell!
Good luck with trying to squeeze some writing and reading into the tight schedule xx Rowena

Thanks Rowena! Umm, perhaps just a normal, non Vegemite, chocolate cake would work ;) The glass sunroom sounds like a great place to watch a storm. I hope you have a great week!

Happy birthday! I hope you got in a good walk and great times outdoors! I always think I will write my coffee post on Friday but then I just can’t bring myself to do it. I might this month with NaNoWriMo coming my way. I haven’t gotten to all of your stories for this past week but I will. I think I am going to binge-blog-read today so I can be caught up before NaNoWriMo takes me away again!

Have a super birthday weekend and an even better week!

Happy Birthday!! A walk in the woods with a coffee sounds like a great way to start a new year for yourself. I’m glad your coffee is back to normal. That flavoured stuff was pretty brutal, haha. I really enjoyed your stories this week. I see now that I have missed some, so I’ll have to get caught up. The Salem Witch trials sounds interesting!

Thanks! I hate to disappoint you, but there is very little Salem Witch Trials in the story… I still have flavored coffee, but it’s back in New Hampshire, my coffee on the Cape is great! I took a very long walk on the beach this morning – I even took off my shoes and waded in the ice cold water! I hope you have a great weekend!

I have to laugh. When I waded in the water I was thinking that it was warmer than the water ever gets in Ogunquit, Maine. When I’m on the beach in Ogunquit (it’s been years), I notice that everyone going in the water is speaking French – people from the US go south to warmer water, but the frigid water in Maine is warm for people in Canada ;)

I hope you have an amazing day! Enjoy the fall weather! I am about to head outside myself.
Knowing now when your birthday is, I now understand your penchant for all those creepy stories.

Thanks Solveig! I just got back in from a very long walk on the beach. I’m sure having a Halloween birthday contributed to my dark side ;) I hope you have a great day and weekend. Happy Halloween!
