Plans for World Domination

earth

One of the first rules of blogging is to never compare your blog to anybody else’s blog. You can borrow ideas you like (don’t steal, though), and you can share with them, but never say, “Why do they have 2,000,000 followers while I only have 20?” Everyone is different.

OK, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I have to say that during all of the year end stats sharing I noticed that I received views from far fewer countries last year than most of the blogs I follow that have a similar number of followers. Not only that, the number of different countries that the views to my blog came from has decreased by 10% from 2014 to 2015 while the number of actual views increased by 100% (doubled). So where is my International audience? More important, how can I increase that audience?

I have come up with a plan. I will purposefully write posts about countries that I want to have “hits” from. Why not? I mean, Iran is in the news big time again. Half of the Arab world is mad at them. There is a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia going on in Yemen. I’m sure I could come up with some clever angle about Iran to get a few from there.

Or how about North Korea? Hydrogen Bomb? Why of course they have one, one that doesn’t work on fusion, but, hey, my personal hydrogen bomb doesn’t either. I could get a lot of laughs out of making fun of The Supreme Leader, aka Dough Boy.

OK, I guess if I go around calling world leaders “Dough Boy” I might not get the kind of positive attention I was looking for. In fact, it goes 100% against my policy of not making fun of people. Now don’t I feel bad?

I am NOT going to write a serious piece about the world trouble spots! No thank you! I’ve seen the types of flame wars even innocent articles cause. And I can’t really make fun of them, or make light of them either. “An ISIS member and a Taliban go into a bar and…” No, that doesn’t go over well, now does it? Not least because neither drinks alcohol. And even though these groups are, shall we say disliked?, by the majority of humanity, well, I do have my policy. It goes against the “compassion” side of my blog. So I guess Syria and Afghanistan are out.

Hmm, so how do I go about getting views from some of these other countries, like Kazakhstan? I’ll be honest, I don’t know enough about Kazakhstan to even know what type of joke would offend them be funny.

So, no serious editorials and no silly jokes. How do I get views from those countries?

(A big virtual sigh) I guess I need to just continue blogging the way I have been. Perhaps somebody in those countries might actually be interested in what I say, like all of those other people who have viewed my blog. Perhaps people from all over will want to read what I say about creativity and compassion, or read a short story or poem or…

Nah, who am I kidding? I guess I’ll have to think of some plan to leave my virtual foot print on every nation WP recognizes.

Did I miss offending anyone?  If you feel left out, please let me know and I’ll try better next time, particularly if you are from a country that has not viewed my blog!  Of course, how did you get offended if you didn’t… Oh, never mind, just let me know and I’ll try next time.

Yep! Of course, thanks to you I get plenty of views from Pakistan so I won’t be (purposefully) saying anything offensive about your country ;) But, hey, who should I try to offend next? The Iranians and North Koreans didn’t take the bait….

Actually, I do get quite a few international views, though not as many as a lot of bloggers I know. This was more an attempt to be humorous after noting that the number of countries that have visited my blog decreased by over 10% between 2014 and 2015. If I can find an easy way to get more International traffic, I’ll let you know!

I know someone from China, a student who goes to school in the states. I had her try and she couldn’t do it. Her mom tried and came out as Hong Kong. So she tried another trick and I got 3 views from China in 2014. Not holding my breath waiting for 3 more!
I’m not going to be in a race with anyone. I am bummed that I didn’t get views from Nepal ;) But other than that, I don’t care where in the world my views come from except that I want them to continue to come from people I’ve come to know on the blog.

I didn’t even look at my stats this year – I remember this topic from last year. I will probably never make it BIG in the blogging world, oh dear, poor me. ;) What I can do for you, though, is fire up my VPN connection and view your blog from all the different random servers so you can add a few countries to the list… would that help?

Hmm, I never thought about “cheating”. I mean, the views can come from other countries, even if the viewer is siting in Australia or the US. Hmmm…no, thanks, great idea though!
Not looking at the stats is the best way to go. I hope I was being a little humorous here. The number of countries that have visited have gone down by more than 10 percent from 2014 to 2015, but I won’t complain about it too much! Maybe a little, with a post like this, but I’m just grateful that anyone would actually read my blog!

Yep, I was thoroughly entertained and amused by your post and my suggestion was in a similar spirit! At the same time, I guess I wanted you to be aware that a quite a few people use VPNs that might randomise their location plus there are a number of robots on servers in various countries that will skew your stats a bit. I don’t know whether you use or have used Clicky to get greater insight into your blog stats, but I had that for the first year and quickly realised that a percentage of views aren’t by people. Even though it’s all online and a bit distant, blogging is about people and communication for me. Erratic as my blog viewing is, I always enjoy reading your posts.

I know I have to take the stats with a grain of salt. And views from the Reader, including all views from handheld devices, don’t show at all. The story I had in another comment about the person from China, the first time I asked I got a lot of traffic from Honk Kong because the use a VPN to bypass the Great Firewall.

I agree, I have fun looking at the stats and the different countries, but it is the connections that are what I truly enjoy about blogging. The people whose blogs I read, the people who comment on mine. And thanks, I enjoy reading your posts, even if they are often few and far between.

Or persuade a world traveler to look at my blog every time they hit a new country. Ah, oh well, I’ll just have to do it the old fashioned way. At least I get a lot of traffic from France!

Nice, not politically correct, good to hear some truth. You´re quite up to date when it gets to the geopolitcal stuff by the way. I have a theory as to how get ISIS not to cut heads, just give them a soccer ball. Since this por guys are in the middle of the dessert and arabs to like soccer, so they figured if they can´t get a soccer ball they´ll just chopp of heads and use them for their Crazy Arab Terrorist Soccer League. So just send them soccer balls and you might change their mind as to the chopping off heads. ……….. Did I just say that outloud?

That’s funny. So I guess talking about Kazakhstan isn’t a guarantee that I’ll have views from there? I have a friend from China and asked her to look at my blog when she was back home. She found that it was blocked, but her mother was able to find a way around the “Great Firewall of China” to give me my only views from there. I’m sure places like North Korea block pretty much everything so I’m not holding breath for most of them.

Thanks! Actually, I do get a few from some of the southern African countries and the Middle East. What brought on this little I hope semi-humorous post was how many more countries I had fits from in 2014 than 2015. I’m not sure why, so I thought it would be funny to talking about try to get some from those impossible places.

I hate looking at the stats and know I shouldn’t, but something always draws me in and I have to peek. But no more than, say 40 or 50 times a day ;) Oh wait, did I just break rule number 1? No, no, I never look at the stats, of course not. Never.
