Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you nice large mug of very strong French Roast. I also have an assortment of teas, cocoa and other “morning appropriate” beverages. It is a beautiful day so we may not stay inside. In fact, I’m sure we should go out back.
And were are we? Some of my long time readers may recognize the stack of Beatles mugs as being at my cottage on Cape Cod. Yep, I’m on “The Cape” again this weekend, and a glorious weekend it is!
Have you ever had one of those weeks when you seemed crazy busy all week but when you look back on it you can’t remember a single thing you did? It’s been one of those weeks. Sure, I went to work and it was pretty busy, though nothing compared to two weeks ago. Still a lot happening. And I know I did something every day after work, but what?
One thing I’ve been doing is playing with small amounts of solar power. I picked up a small, foldable solar panel and a small lithium ion battery. I charge the battery during the day and use the battery to charge my phone and Kindle Fire at night. When it’s cloudy I still have enough charge in the battery to last a few days. It’s going to take years to pay for it. And I did choose to get my electric from green sources, so I guess I’m not saving any coal anyway (most of NH is nuclear, so even if I didn’t choose green, I wouldn’t be burning much coal). But I do think it’s cool. I have a plugin hybrid car and think green electric is the future for all of our energy needs.
OK, I’m one of “Them”. If you’re not, don’t go leaving in a huff. I don’t force my opinions down people’s throats. I can’t understand why it is so controversial. Over 95% of the world’s scientists are on one side of the issue. Should be a slam dunk. Well, except, of course, there’s a small handful of people stand to gain or lose unimaginably huge amounts of money, money that is used to buy politicians and news channels.
Sorry, I very rarely get political at all, but sitting here listening to the birds sing and tasting the tang of the salt air has thrown me into one of those moods. Don’t worry if my eyes are glazing over a bit. That just means I’m sitting here planning on how I’m gong to spend my day outside.
My blogging this week has been weird. As I’ve said in the last few coffee shares, I used to read a lot at work, perhaps two or three hours spread over an eight and a half hour day. Now i don’t. Most days I spend less than 15 minutes on the blog at work as I eat lunch in front of my work computer. So when I am busy in the evening, well, reading time goes down. I write pretty fast, so even though I haven’t been reading much, I have been posting a lot.
I started the week on Sunday with a reminder for the Week 19 weekly smile. On Monday I posted a bunch of pictures I took on Cape Cod (here!) in late April. I was down here for almost week and ventured out with my camera usually three times a day – once at the beach, once on my kayak and once on a long walk in the woods and salt marsh. I did not post on Tuesday. On Wednesday I put up my Week 20 Weekly Smile. Week 20! Later in the day I posted a bit of flash fiction for the Friday Fictioneers. I did a bit of a memory piece about one of my favorite musicians, Isao Tomita, who passed away a few weeks ago (2016 has been rough on musicians!). Since this was a memory, I did it as a Throwback Thursday. Almost immediately after that post I put up this week’s second Friday Fictioneer story. Unfortunately the Throwback story had almost no views since everyone saw the story and didn’t go back farther. On Friday I posted what I hope is a funny story about an alien invasion. Maybe.
Like i said, a lot of writing with three new short stories.
Wow, the birds are calling my name! My kayak is whining. I think I’m going to have to leave soon. Yesterday I did take my long walk in the woods with Fiyero and did a short kayak ride. Today will be the same, but a long kayak ride. I also have to mow my lawn. I need to start soon. I’ll try real hard to visit all of the coffee shares, but I can’t guarantee it.
So that was my week. And how about you? How has your week been? I hope it was good! If you do a coffee post I’ll try to catch up, If you don’t do a coffee post, perhaps you should consider it ;)
