We were on the way back from eating out when we decided to stop and try for one more chance of getting a good picture of the local eagles. My dad and I had our cameras and my mom and my parents’ “Chinese Granddaughter” came along just to stretch their legs. Actually, they had little choice since my dad and I had already decided to stop.
We saw a couple of eagles at a distance, but the setting sun was just in the wrong position, blotting out any view across the estuary. Other people came and went, mostly walking through but stopping to see if they might get lucky and see an eagle or other sight.
We were about ready to give it up and head back when we heard a squawk. The Great Blue Heron that had been on the other side of the estuary decided it wanted to come up and say “Hi”. The big bird took off, flew the short distance across the water and landed just a few feet away. Unfortunately it was directly into the sun, but I moved around to try to get a good angle. It sat, stretched, bobbed around and was the center of attention for a few minutes. My dad and I took a lot of pictures and a couple walking through pulled out their phones for some. After a couple of minutes it flew back to where it had started.
So I got a big smile out of the Great Blue who obviously wanted his or her picture taken.
What did you smile about this week? It’s not too late to join in the Week 22 #weeklysmile!
If you haven’t seen it, here is a little background to The Weekly Smile as well as some quick guidelines.
So, what made you smile this week? Write about it and post on the link-up (or click the little blue frog below). While you’re there, read what everyone else is smiling about! And come back to it later, if last week is any indication new smiles will be added daily!
I guess that Heron didn’t rant you to go away empty handed. They are big birds. Last summer when Anderson and I drive to California, one swooped at is then landed in the water right in front of us when we were on our walk to the beach. I think it scared us both with the suddenness of its flight.

They are huge. Not as big as the eagles, or at least not as massive, but still huge. And I’m sure he/she wanted his/her picture taken ;)

Thanks! I felt very lucky to get the shot. With just a quick glance through my photos a couple of others of this bird came out pretty good as well.

My husband gave up smoking. We are going to be a happy quitter couple so it seems. That made me smile big time.
