Yeah, I’m late. I like to have the smile up no later than 8 AM EST and usually try for 7:30. I just opened this and it is already 8:30. I got bogged down with work.
In the not too distant past I felt underemployed. Sure, I was being paid plenty for my efforts, it’s just that my efforts were too small. I felt I needed to do more, a lot more. Well, those who follow my blog my may know that my wish came true. I am doing a lot more. Much of it is high profile with people at the top of the org chart cc:ed in the emails. A lot of it pushes me into new territory, breaking boundaries I have made.
Anyone who has at different times felt both underemployed and pushed to their limits by their job have to know the feeling of satisfaction of the later. Truthfully, I don’t understand people who are lazy, it would seem that they miss most of what life is about – the challenges, the pushing ahead, the creating a path, boldly going, etc. They miss the satisfaction. That is my smile this week, the satisfaction of pushing my personal boundaries at work.
It might seem weird to some people, but my smile this week is work. OK, more specifically, my smile is the satisfaction I get from pushing boundaries at work.
So that’s my smile: The satisfaction of pushing my personal boundaries at work. (sorry if I’m repetitive)
What made you smile this week?
If you haven’t seen it, here is a little background to The Weekly Smile as well as some quick guidelines.
So, what made you smile this week? Write about it and post on the link-up (or click the little blue frog below). While you’re there, read what everyone else is smiling about! And come back to it later, if last week is any indication new smiles will be added daily!
I know exactly what you mean Trent. I’ve always believed that life is really lived at the edges of our comfort zone – and that includes our jobs too!

Same here. We are made to be stretched and when we are not,we are just surviving.

Good for you Trent and nice to meet you, this is my first time on your blog (I found you via Irene) I’ll have to come back and post a link, I love this idea of a weekly smile post! :)

Hi, nice to meet you. Thanks! I see you’ve seen the Weekly Smile page so you know where it came from. It’s kind of rough coming up with new ideas usually twice a week (I have a “bonus smile” on my weekly reminders on Sunday) and it is sometimes discouraging when only two or three people join in, but so far it has been a great experience.

Hey Trent, I was actually thinking of linking one of my posts to your Weekly Smile page today but I didn’t have your picture embedded and I thought it might have been too late. But I’d like to contribute something soon. It’s a great idea. :)

The Weekly Smile is open all week, so not too late. It runs from Wednesday to Wednesday and I usually post a reminder on Sunday so people who haven’t seen it can jump in. You don’t have to embed the the picture, but it is there if you want to. I think the more people who participate the better :)

I understand totally your need to be pushed at work. There is nothing more boring and soul destroying than being hum drum in the area you possibly spend a large part of your life. Those challenges are what gives you job satisfaction and yes a huge smile.

Well, the one thing about when I wasn’t working as hard is that I go t a lot of blogging done ;) But yes, we need challenges in our lives, something to keep that grey matter burning.

I’m not a person who defines myself by my job, but certainly life is a lot better if you do have passion for your work!
