Weekly Smile #WeeklySmile
Friday I noticed that Idina looked funny. There was a big swollen area on the side of her jaw. We brought her to the vet and they said there was little they could do at that time. She appeared to have an abscess. They would have to drain it later, but it wasn’t ready. They gave us meds.
Saturday it looked worse – it looked like she had tried to swallow a football (American football ;) ) because the entire side of her face was so puffed up. But Sunday it looked better. And Monday better yet. Yesterday she went back to the vet. Still no fluid to drain, and swelling was much reduced. In the evening she looked almost normal.
She did run a slight fever on Friday, but for the most part acted like normal. It was great seeing her almost 100% yesterday.
So that is my smile, a sick puppy that is getting much better and is almost back to her old self, no matter how much a pain that old self is ;)
So, what made you smile this week? Write about it and post on the link-up (or click the little blue frog below). While you’re there, read what everyone else is smiling about! And come back to it later, if last week is any indication new smiles will be added daily!

Note – the weekly smile runs Wednesday Morning to Wednesday morning. I post in the morning (Eastern US) and put up the link usually between 7 and 8 AM EST. I also try to post on Sunday as a reminder. People can and do join throughout the week.

I’m so glad she’s feeling better. It’s no fun seeing our pets in pain. Have a great weekend Trent.

Thanks. Our pets are our furry children, so it can be hard when they’re not well.
You too, have a great weekend!

Who wouldn’t smile when they see that face! So glad she’s better. The snow looks like fun :)

The dogs really, really love the snow! One thing, they can play forever because they don’t overheat ;) And she is cute, isn’t she?

She looks so much like Patches, even the look in her eyes. Our Patches is highly allergic to bees, so it seems. She too came in one day with a swollen face, later on that day, I noticed all kind of bees and bumble bees around our butterfly bush.
I gave her Benedryl, something I always have at home, ever since our Weimaraner tried to eat a bee and had moving bumps all over.
Benedryl can be given to dogs when they have a swollen face or an allergic reaction. 1 g for each pound of weight preferably hidden in peanut butter. :-)
I am glad she is doing better.

Actually, the first thing we did was give her Benedryl. When it didn’t go down, that’s when we called the vet.
I remember seeing pictures of Patches. Hey, how did you get our dog! It is funny how alike the look. Idina is 100% muscle and plays really, really hard. She can run like a greyhound. Amazing little girl.

Was she on medication Trent? Poor little pup. She must have felt very uncomfortable.

Yes, she was. One of the meds was a pain killer, so hopefully it wasn’t too bad. The meds were changed, but she is still on antibiotics.

Will they still have to drain it poor baby? I did not know a dog could get an abscess.

She is on even more powerful antibiotics and we’ll take her back next week and see. they first thing they asked is if she chews sticks a lot. Well, yes. I guess sometimes they’ll get a splinter that will get infected. They didn’t see any sign of a splinter, so we’re not sure.

It is. For the most part she acted like normal, but there were times you could tell she wasn’t happy. So it is good she is feeling better :)
