Weekly Smile #WeeklySmile
Have you ever watched large dogs playing? The first time can be scary. They growl, show their teeth, etc. But once you get used to it, it’s very fun and funny to watch them. Fiyero and Idina are very rough players, though they rarely give each other nicks or anything – they only get those when they are at Doggie Daycare. It is actually funny to watch them play.
This morning they wanted to play right after their morning walk. They walk separately (to avoid the play time!). When they returned they would wrestle, stop, look at me and whine. For many reasons I couldn’t let them loose to play out back, so after a while I walked them together. Of course they wrestled for a few minutes on in our yard before we left. Once we left, though, they wanted to go at a jog. They knew where we were headed!
In the middle of our village is a small park. It looks like it is part of the school, but it is separate and was part of a land grant. Town activities have been held in the park for decades. It is the dogs favorite place, though I never (intentionally) let them off leash there.
When we hit the park, I took off at a sprint. The dogs leap and bound and fight and growl. I slow down, jump and twist, changing the leashes to the other hand so I can instantly take off in a new direction, dogs following. OK, so I look like a loon. I’m sure everyone in town shakes their head when i get to the park with the dogs. But the dogs love it! We run, jump, twist, turn, dodge and just romp over the entire place. I watch for kids and other dogs so I can stay away. My dogs follow along – they just want to play with each other and don’t care that I avoid others. I think of they running, jumping, twisting and such as a primitive dance.
This morning, after a few minutes of play, I walked around the block and then hit the park again. They wrestled, played, ran, and had a great time. On the way back, I ran them up a short, steep hill (the hill is long, but we just hit the bottom part. Then walked home. Except.. When we reach the end of our short street, if there are no cars coming or people walking, I run them down the road. They are a bundle of teeth and growls as we barrel down the street, but they love it.
Back inside, after each drained a water dish, they lie down beside me, content.
OK, so I get some exercise along with the dogs, so win-win ;)
(There is no snow in July, but the picture below should give some idea ;) )
That is my second smile this week, Dances with the Descendants of Wolves.
So, what made you smile this week? Write about it and post on the link-up (or click the little blue frog below). While you’re there, read what everyone else is smiling about! And come back to it later, if last week is any indication new smiles will be added daily!

Note – the weekly smile runs Wednesday Morning to Wednesday morning. I post in the morning (Eastern US) and put up the link usually between 7 and 8 AM EST. I also try to post on Sunday as a reminder. People can and do join throughout the week.

Dig the picture, dig the story, AND their names! I don’t know how I managed to miss the Wicked element before. :D

Thanks! Truthfully, when we named Idina, I knew the actress was from frozen, but I didn’t realize she was the original Elphaba until someone pointed it out. So, yeah, I guess they’re a couple of pretty Wicked dogs ;)

Sounds wonderful! I only wish I could take my dogs to play somewhere like this, but they’ve nearly torn my arms off in the past just trying to take them for walks. So now if we go anywhere, it’s got to be only one dog at a time. Oh and I still get my exercise in too! Lol… 😉

Yeah, I have to watch them all of the time or they’ll pull my arms off. They’re powerful!

Sounds like allowing the dogs to wrestle involves quite a wrestle! :) This did make me smile, what endearing antics.

The idea is to wear the dogs out, but sometimes I think I’m the one getting worn out ;)

There is something about playing dogs. No matter how many snarls or sharp teeth there are, it is fun to watch (as long as things don’t get out of control!) It would be great if you joined in some day!

You have to remember that I’m wearing my Blues Brothers’ hat as I do this to get the complete picture ;) (I always wear the hat outside, but don’t post many pictures with it)
