PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot
“There’s a war between the witches and wizards today!”
“Sure there is, Tommy. What is it, too close to Halloween or too much Harry Potter?”
“But look at the sky!”
“I am, and a beautiful sunset it is.”
Mom just didn’t understand.
The sky blazed in glorious black and orange, as the powers silently battled in the clouds. Tommy watched as the cloud witch on her broomstick with her pointy cap battled the glowing beak-nosed cloud wizard. The wizard’s mouth was wide open, no doubt screaming a spell at the witch.
Tommy knew it would be the best Halloween ever.

You captured the child’s perspective. Very nice.

I get this kid! I love seeing stories in clouds and this story is 100% there in the picture. You gave him a good, strong name too!

Thanks! Yes, I’m sure you liked the name ;)

That cloud so does look like a witch on her broom. Great take, Trent!

See, he wasn’t imagining things! And the big cloud to the left has an open mouthed face in it.
Thanks!

Looks like Tommy is going to have a very interesting Halloween (even if mom is unaware)!

Yes he is! But I think he always does have an interesting time – things are often what we make of them, and he makes a lot of everything.

Oh, I love your description of the clouds. The witch is so clear, and the open mouth of the wizard? Why didn’t I see that before? Really good.

I guess I’m a professional cloud watcher ;) I see all sorts of things. Thanks.

I like doing that too–it’s almost as much fun as people-watching :)

OK, maybe I should say a dreamer, a daydreamer ;) I’ll have to wait fro retirement to be able cloud watch full time…

Great take on the prompt; I see both witch and wizard! I love the way kids – and even grown-ups – can see pictures in the clouds. Tommy should certainly have an exciting Halloween!

Our minds do funny things to make sense of the world, even if what our minds create makes no sense ;) I agree, Tommy will have a great Halloween full of imagined spooks and monsters.

Your imagination is only rivalled by that of young Tommy! Excellent.

As soon as I finished your story I looked at the picture again and did see the witch. Loved it! A good read for the season!

She is there, as is the face. Or maybe it is the season making me see witches and goblins everywhere ;) Thanks.

Ah, the childhood memories of cloud creature battles. Growing up without television. we found our entertainment in God’s creation. Clouds were afternoon programming. No two shows ever alike. Loved your story, Trent!

Thanks! We had a TV, but I didn’t watch much. The world was my playground and imagination my TV. Glad you liked it and could relate.

Aaah, I love this. I am always ALWAYS fascinated by the clouds – permission to share on my blog?

Clouds are fascinating, even when the imagination doesn’t add pictures to it. Sure, go ahead and share it :)

Great story Trent. Mothers can rarely see what children see and whose to say the kids are wrong.

Yep, that is often the case. In this case I agree with the kid – there is a witch and a face in those clouds ;) Thanks.

I saw the witch but had to go back to see the face in the clouds.

I thought it was the perfect Halloween photo, with the colors and witch. I might have seen the face first, since I seem to always pick faces out of the clouds before anything.

With an imagination like that any Halloween would be good.

Awesome, Trent! As I am a cloud watcher (travelling as a kid was never boring – as long as there were clouds in the sky) I was intrigued by the photo and applaud you on the perfectly fitting story.

Just shows how we all see different. I missed looking at the clouds, first time round.

I always find it interesting what different people pick out in the FF photos. There have been times when I would look again after a story and ask myself how I ever missed it.

Loved it! Either mom is a muggle or Tommy has special needs. Either way, great take that leaves the readers to fill in the blanks.

Although I’ll leave it for the readers’ imagination, I vote for Tommy’s Mom being a muggle. I mean, i know exactly what he’s talking about ;) Thanks.

Dear Trent,
Tommy has quite the imagination. As long as he’s not waiting for the Great Pumpkin it’s all good. ;) Nicely done.

Rochelle

Thanks, Rochelle. Maybe it isn’t just Tommy with the imagination – reading through the stories so far, am I the only one to see the with on her broomstick and the face in the clouds? With the Halloween colors and theme, I thought everyone would be writing about witches today.

Now that you mention it, I do see the witch. Hmmm…it had no bearing on my choice. I promise.
