How You See it Matters
Another bus full of tourist rips by, the wind causing my car to veer slightly. I wonder at the faces I see pressed to the window. They sit still and watch the world go by, those out of state leaf-peepers, trying to catch a glimpse of red and orange fall through a screen. I have reached my destination and pull off of the road. There are few other cars so I know I’ll have the trail to myself. Another bus roars by, picking up a flurry of color as it passes. I leave the roadside before the last brick red glider settles. It only takes a few minutes before the sound of Man is left far behind. I am now surrounded in nature’s color, taking in the fireworks of the foliage, watching the squirrels play and listening to the wind and the water. In my joy at being alive, I shed a silent tear for those who can only see a bit of fall through the tinted glass window of a tour bus.
The forest burns bright
Trees dressed in golden attire
Prepare for winter

Hi Trent
This is a very beautiful haibun. You took me there, very vivid description. Loved “… last brick red glider settles…” I can see the gust from the passing bus displacing it, it taking a swift whirl and landing gently. A nice write.

Thanks. I really like this form of poetry because the limitation, forcing myself to say things in a different way, helps fire my creativity.

Wonderful, Trent! I want to be there too instead of wading through heaps of paperwork. :o)

Thanks! Today wouldn’t be a peaceful day in the woods – winter seems to have struck with cold temperatures and gale force winds…. Staying inside doing paperwork might be good ;)

Be honest, Trent. Would you really want to share the silence with a bus load of peepers and snappers?
