Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you a large mug of a very strong Dark Roast (not sure what it is since they were out of Sumatra and French Roasts!, so I just picked up the only dark roast available). I see questions in some of your eyes – “Who is this odd person?” Yeah, I know, I last did a coffee post on the 11th of August and have only done three or four posts since then. Anyway, it is a cool day, though more humid than I expected, so not as fall like as I expected. But autumn will arrive! Eventually… And where are we? Some of you may recognize that photo at the top of the page as being taken at my house in New Hampshire.
So, where was I this last month? I was not eaten by sharks:
Yesterday I put up a post that talked a little about it. The main thing is that we had some issues at work that really wore me out. I’m talking long days where my butt rarely left the seat. One was 16 hours long with no breaks. That, along with a little “Post-Publishing Depression”, made it so I did not want to sit at a computer after work! When the problems were resolved, I took a week vacation. Although the timing was superb, it was long planned. You may be surprised that I spent the week on Cape Cod. ;) It was a week of rest, and rest included not writing a word. No editing. No stories. No blog. No reading blogs.
So I came back last Sunday. I didn’t get in until pretty late. Monday was a holiday, so I did a lot of things around the house. I had been gone over a week and had a lot to catch up on.
Tuesday was back to work. It was super busy, catching on the week i missed, but all of the major issues were resolved. Oh, there are still issues, but not the type that I get phone calls on Saturday’s or 10 PM on Thursdays about. Just the normal, run of the mill stuff.
This week I got back into editing my short story collection. I hope to have it out by December! I also got back into my exercise routine. It is hard to run when it is 90 F and 90% humidity! (heat index was over 100….) I also don’t have my weights on the Cape. So I am easing back into my routine, which feels great. OK, we had three 90 F days this week, and the humidity was high, but i still got out and ran and exercised and had my massage on Wednesday.
I started reading blogs again on Wednesday and posted on Friday. Which catches us up to today, when I am doing another post. Two in a row! Whoo-hoo!
So life has almost returned to normal. If such a thing as normal exists. As I said, Autumn is almost here. But then, I am surprised at the humidity.
I do have a lot more that I have to catch up on. I need to mow. There is work around the house. Other things like that. And hopefully I will get out and play some. That is what life is about isn’t it? It is not about working yourself to death, but enjoying your time here. And trying to help others enjoy their time here as well. Perhaps we should spend more time worrying about how many smiles we put on faces and less on how many dollars we put in our pocket.
With that, I have to go. Thanks for stopping by!
I hope you have a great week! If you have a coffee share, I’ll try to stop by, but no guarantees – I still not in a blogging mood.
The original Coffee Share kind of died out, but it has been revived! Eclectic Alli is hosting a coffee share. This week’s share is here. and the link up is here. Come on and join in! Hopefully we can bring it back to its former glory!
What a lovely blog post, Trent! Sounds like you had a relaxing vacation. I’m from NY and have been to the Cape as well. (I live in LA now.) I love what you wrote about life is to be enjoyed. So incredibly important. And, CONGRATULATIONS on writing a collection of short stories. This is great. Good luck with that.
Blessings,
Debbie

Thanks! In ways I am a mountain person, but love of northern cool weather but hate of shoveling snow is pushing me to the Cape ;) I plan on retiring there. I have a 4 season cottage now, but plan on upgrading soon so the move at retirement will be transparent.
Most of the short stories began as flash fiction on the blog but have been rework into longer, fuller stories.
Have a great week!

I’m impressed that you managed a week without reading OR writing. The only way I did that was by traveling without a computer and doing all outdoor things with people I like. Oh, right. A vacation. That was it. VACATION! Then I started to work at home and THEN I started a business at home so I couldn’t even call in sick. I was a mean boss.

I do work at home (including “home” on the Cape) 4 days a week. I haven’t called.since I started telecommuting. Don’t feel well? I’ll still work, but take it easy.
I did have a week in there that I was on vacation. My parents where out from Ohio. Although I didn’t spend all of my time with them, I found other things to do, like kayaking or whatever. When I slip from the habit, it was hard to get started. Once started, it’s all back to normal again. Transitions are the hardest part.

Great to see you again my friend. Balance can be tricky. I work a lot more now, compered to when I lived in California. It’s good for me, but definitely affect how much time I spend on blogging. I think I’m starting to see some balance in this process. I think temporary chaos is OK, as long as it’s not permanent. Good luck with the short stories Have an amazing week!

Thanks. It is nice to see you again as well :) Balance is difficult. When I am blogging I sometimes over do it. It’s difficult to say “I don’t have to read every post by every blogger I follow”!
Without the chaos how would we know that things are clicking along how they should?
I hope you also have a great weekl!

Glad you’re back! I understand being busy, though. The beginning of this school year has kicked my booty more than I care to admit… although I did admit it in my post last week. There was a day a week or so ago that I was at the school from 6:30 AM to 9:15 PM and then had to be back at the school by 6:30 the next morning. So I feel your pain. Glad things are slowing down for you. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate so you can get back to running regularly.

Glad you had a rest, of sorts, at your house. Long weekends are always a good thing, especially when you’re in a beautiful place like that.

Time away from it all is nice. Unfortunately it makes me want to retire ;)

Glad your back. I am going to have to jump over and check out the post about the dangerous marine life. Great coffee share.

Good to have a break sometimes from the computer. And now that the weather is cooling, it is definitely easier to get back into an exercise routine.
Have a good week Trent.

I had a break about this time last year as well. I kind of fall into these breaks, but it is something we all need.
Have a great weekend and a good week ahead!
