Oh, what an awful sight
When the lawnmower and chainsaw
Got into a fight
The oilcans stood in a row
Making slow turns as the fight
Moved to-and-fro
The snowblower looked away
Knowing the winner would
Challenge him some day
The spade whispered to the hoe
That what caused this ruckus
He just didn’t know
The rake put a dollar on a bet
That the lawnmower would survive
And win this fight yet
Just when it seemed it would never end
That the fight must go on all of the night
A human stepped in
And turned on the light

(Doesn’t it look like those oil cans are watching something?)
LOL. Loved the poetry story Trent. Made me think of the robot fight challenge we saw a bit of recently.

Finally – the mystery is solved.

Yes, that is the real reason the garage is always a mess and cluttered…

This is happening in sheds up and down the country, we just don’t know it yet, good stuff, damn that rake

I think you are right. Just about every guy who replied to this mentioned that their garages or sheds are always a mess no matter how much time they spend cleaning and organizing. This has to be the reason…

There’s always one who’ll bet on the outcome. A lovely lively poem, fresh as the proverbial daisy!

There is always that one, isn’t there? And it is usually the rake at that ;) Thanks!

That was what I particularly liked, should have mentioned it before, the way you played with the word rake :)

Great echoes of one of my favorite poems:
“The gingham dog and the calico cat
Side by side on the table sat…”
Heres the full version for anyone who doesnt know it:

Love the oilcans slowly turning as they watch!

Thanks! I may have read that poem ages ago. I always like a touch of whimsy.

Oh, almost forgot, though not calico, my first cat was named Bartleby so I think it’s great that a poem with a cat is on a Bartleby site…

Yes I just discovered that site today. Looks like a holdmine of literary out-of -copyright stuff. Tho its own copyright only goes to 2015 on the page I visited. Dont know if they still keep it up.

LOL … Trent this is awesome. I love your sense of humor. A fun approach to the photo prompt.
I kept thinking of the pets, in the movie, who would do all kinds of things when their owners were gone. Can’t remember the title. I could read this story again and again. Super write …

There is no way I can write verse as fluid or as whimsical as he did, but it was a lot of fun doing my own thing with such as writer as inspiration!

Fun! Those humans always spoil things, though. For what it’s worth, I was rooting for the chainsaw…
LikeLiked by 1 person
Those humans do. Chainsaw or lawnmower, I don’t think it matters – I agree with Marilyn that if it came down to the snowblower, that thing would surely be the final victor….

Ah! the human again, the tamer of all gadgets? Why were chainsaw and lawnmower fighting? Was it for attention of Miss Vacuum Cleaner?
LikeLiked by 1 person
The humans seem to think they are the tamer of all gadgets, but years ago, when I was in IT support, I learned otherwise ;) I’m not sure why they were fighting. There is a shop-vac in the corner, that was once described as “sexy”, so maybe that is it…

Long term, I’d bet on the snowblower. Those things are evil inside!

They are pretty nasty. I have a large Ariens that I’m sure could be a wood chipper if it ever decided to give up snowblowing…

Humans are always ruining everything. There was money on this fight! The designated tone of the lawnmower was the perfect touch–like a good-old-gal that doesn’t want to smack someone, but knows she has to.

Thanks. yes, that is the only way those things end, is with the human coming in. As I’ve said in other comments, this is the real reason guys garages/sheds/workspace are always so messy ;)

Wonderful. This may also explain why my shed is always in such a mess – I’m sure I never leave it that way!

Thanks. Yes, I think that is it. All of us guys leave the garage/shed/work area perfectly neat, yet it is always such a mess when anybody else ever looks in.

I very much enjoyed the rhythm of your story and the magical tone! My family and I have a joke, when we pull out cords from a drawer that are inevitably tangled up, that they must have had a party the night before. Lovely! =)

Thanks! I am sure those cords do have a party or something. No matter how careful you are, they always become tangled…

I’m not sure. Another machine in there. I’m sure it wouldn’t take long for the rake to bribe it and so it would be in cahoots with the rest of them on fight night…
