There was a lot to smile about this week :) Sometimes, of course, we have to look for those little silver linings :) For instance, the weather. It was a frigid week, this week. But it was dry! This autumn was the wettest autumn ever, so having a dry week was great! I played with the dogs outside a lot and ran on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (yesterday)!
One thing that was a huge smile for me was publishing my book of short stories, Embers. Check out the launch post. Here is a photo of the book at my house:
And there was setting up the Christmas tree. I really enjoyed it. I just started to listen to holiday music on Friday and set up the tree on Saturday. It makes it feel like Christmas.
I talked to friends and family. Always good :)
I had quite a few smiles this week, from little day to day things ( a kitten is in my lap right now as I type!), to big things (publishing a book!), but if I need to chose one for the Weekly Smile, I will choose the tree. Yes, the book was more exciting, but I’ve done many posts on that already… And the tree was fun :) Doing it finally put me into that Holiday Mood, the Christmas Spirit, or whatever you want to call it :)
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small. Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile! Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).
Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.
You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.
Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

“There are days I go in search of the kind, compassionate, loving and beautiful. Despite what we sometimes see on the news, FB and elsewhere, there is much more beauty in the world than ugliness, much more kindness than hate or cruelty. Perhaps we should all have a goal to make at least one person smile every day.”
***
When I used to do a monthly compassion post, this was my theme:
Empathy is the glue that holds society together and compassion is what makes a group of people a civilization. Without holding our hands out to our fellow humans we become savages. We are all in this together, in a closed system, so we must all help each other. How lonely life must be for those selfish people who don’t realize this simple truth! How lonely for anyone who doesn’t realize that all are our brothers and sisters! How lonely must the self-righteous be!

Ah the tree is worth many smiles- we don’t have one up this year (well a small desktop one) so I enjoy family and friend trees.
We still could put one up but doubt it-
Glad you had a dry week and congrats on all the other smiles

I grumble about the tree sometimes, but I do like having one. And decorating it is huge part of it. Taking it down? Well, we won’t discuss that ;)
Did you have snow? The storm missed us, but we continued with our frigid (mid-January at its worst) but sunny weather.

We were in Kansas City when the storm hit Virginia and so we also missed the 100 plus flight cancellations (thank God) but we came home to the snow on the ground and everyone in a tizzy. Richmond does not get a lot of snow so big storms that are normal up north are sometimes more of a big deal here.
Glad you did not get the storm and hope you all are staying warm

I’m glad you missed it – I would not want to be down south when a storm like that hit! Today was in ways the worst yet, but tomorrow will be above freezing and it will be in the 40s on Saturday and Sunday. But then back to the cold….

There’s not many smiles so far this week, Trent.

Not yet. They always trickle in pretty slowly through the week, though it does seem a bit bit sparse. I hope everyone is out doing things that’s making them smile instead of writing about it :)

Christmas does feel near once the tree has gone up. I haven’t put mine up yet – I think I should do it soon.

Something about having that tree does make it feel real….

Lots of smiles this week, Trent. Congrats on publishing Embers! I also think the tree would make me smile. I’ love Christmas and the lights and just…well… the glowing feeling of goodwill.

There is that feeling of goodwill. I just wish we could keep it all year :) Thanks!

Congratulations, Trent, a great week. I am smiling because my son, Michael, aged 12, featured with Anita Dawes as Colleen Chesebro’s poet of the week. How awesome is that.

I did see that. Very cool. Your son seems to be multi-talented.

Well all I have to stay, Trent, is that pushing that little elephant up the academic staircase is hard work but worthwhile.

Well, the big smile for me was getting back into blogging, meeting up with you guys and joining the “Friday Fictioneers” community. Putting up the xmas tree as well!
