The Weekly Smile 1/7/2019

weeklysmile2a

Hello!  This is the first Weekly Smile post of 2019.  I will not go all philosophic on you this week.  Two weeks of that is more than enough!  But my smile might be a little different.

I am a not-very-handyman ;)  I can do a lot of things, I just don’t.  I have done small plumbing jobs, large electrical jobs, small carpentry, roofing, drywall, etc.  But the older I get, the less time I put into it.  Also, I have a motivation problem – I used to save jobs for when my father visited.  We’d get started and then I’d finish when he left.  Well, when he was in his early 70s, I stopped that practice – he needs to relax!  And since he didn’t motivate me to start, I usually didn’t.  A lot of jobs have been piling up….

This week I had to do a few.  I did some myself.  I scraped paint on my houses exterior and did touch up work.  This is an awful picture, but if we realize that most of the wood had peeling paint a week ago (this was perhaps the worst place on the house), it looks OK.

There was also a lot of interior work, but I decided to let a professional do it.  Here you can see an in progress shot.

I know, pretty awful shot, but you can tell that work is being done (it is almost finished now).

There wasn’t a huge amount of work done, but a little bit.  They were mostly things I see almost every day and think, “I have to take care of that soon.  Maybe next week.”  Well, next week arrived and at least a few of these things were knocked out.  More will be done later.

My smile this week was routine repairs being done on my house.

What made you smile?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small.  Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile!  Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).   Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile.  (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.

You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.

Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

“There are days I go in search of the kind, compassionate, loving and beautiful. Despite what we sometimes see on the news, FB and elsewhere, there is much more beauty in the world than ugliness, much more kindness than hate or cruelty. Perhaps we should all have a goal to make at least one person smile every day.”

***

When I used to do a monthly compassion post, this was my theme:

Empathy is the glue that holds society together and compassion is what makes a group of people a civilization. Without holding our hands out to our fellow humans we become savages. We are all in this together, in a closed system, so we must all help each other. How lonely life must be for those selfish people who don’t realize this simple truth! How lonely for anyone who doesn’t realize that all are our brothers and sisters! How lonely must the self-righteous be!

Hi Corina – yeah, I have to approve pingbacks so they don’t show up right away. No problem posting the link in a comment as well :) Thanks for joining this week. I’ll be by in a few minutes to take a look.

I think every man around procrastinates with home repairs. We finally did get the exterior of our house painted using a sprayer for the most part & that was $200 well spent. It seems to go very fast with the sprayer even though there are places that still need a paint brush. Right now we are working on the master bathroom. The tubs getting replaced this weekend. New faucets and stuff will probably be next week and then tiling and new floor. According to Jack, it might take 6 months LMBO. I will tile during the day to speed things up. Any repairs you can do yourself saves $ although getting older makes things harder on us all.

I do know a few go-getters that are all over those home repairs, but you may be right that most people put them off. I hope not many put it off as long as I did the two ceiling projects… It sounds like you are off to a good start. Of course getting older makes it harder, but you do have more time – I’m looking forward to being home full time ;)

My husband is on the fence about retiring this year or next year when SS says he should retire. I told him to plan for this year. They say you have to start the process about 3 months ahead of time.

Yay, Trent! Way to go. :) My spiritual mentor John-Roger said, You’re in your laters now. :)

I ended up doing a Forgiving Fridays post today. Just came out! I included it as part of your Weekly Smile. Thank you so much.
    Blessings to you Trent,
    Debbie

I feel like you do about a lot of things. I need to get to that some day and then that day never comes! I need to do some of these things so I can have something to smile about!

Procrastination is so easy… (Of course I stay busy doing other things). I am sure you can find other things to smile about even without getting some of those things done. :)
