Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you a nice steaming mug of very strong French/Sumatra Roast blend, a cuppa tea, some hot cocoa or other warm berverage! You’ll need something ht, though today is the warm day of the weekend – the high on Monday is supposed to be somewhere around 5F/ -15C. That’s the high temperature!! And we are supposed to get 18″ to 24″ (46 cm – 61 cm) of snow starting tonight. So my question is, why in the world are you here? And why am I here? No, I guess I won’t get into philosophy, but I will say what I am talking about (in a non-philosophical way) by “here” – I am back to using my original New Hampshire photo.
Not a lot to say about the week. I did some work around the house, I wrote a new 14,000 word novella, I wrote a couple of short stories and did some editing, I exercised/ran/weights/etc., I played with dogs, I had a super important appointment (finally!), and set up another appointment (which hopefully I’ll be able to tell you about next Saturday). Other than that, well, I know I never stopped, but can’t say what I did.
This will be the first big snow this year. What is weird is the amount of ice. My driveway is covered in several inches of ice, and the hill in my back yard looks like a frozen waterfall.
I am going to get out of the house and do things before the storm hits and I am stuck inside. Thanks for visiting and having coffee (or whatever) with me! I hope you are enjoying your weekend. If you have a coffee share I will try to stop by.
The original Coffee Share kind of died out, but it has been revived! Eclectic Alli is hosting a coffee share. This week’s share is here. and the link up is here. Come on and join in! Hopefully we can bring it back to its former glory! (Note – it is coming back! A lot of people have rejoined and there are plenty of new faces :) ).
Wow! You got an amazing amount of writing done.

I didn’t work last week, so I spent a lot more time than usual writing. Looking forward to the day that I can really do that full time ;)

You have been productive this week Trent.
Stay warm :)

Yes, a lot of writing this week. You too, stay warm!

Yikes, be safe with all that ice! We got maybe 8 inches of snow yesterday, everything is already cleared.. Stay warm!

We ended up with only about 8″, but then the rain started and it has been raining all day, so a lot of ice. It is still doing something odd with a rain/snow mix, so I can’t clean up yet. Hopefully soon… Have a great week!

Kudos on a productive writing week. We are dealing with the snow and freezing rain here as well. The ice is always so much harder to deal with than the snow. Stay warm!

Yeah, it turned more towards rain than it was supposed to be, though it stayed under 20 F all day, so a lot of ice over about 8″ of snow. I’d rather have all snow! You too, stay warm!

I would rather have all snow, too. Anything but ice.

I was just out shoveling and, despite the rain, it wasn’t too bad – a hard crust, but mostly snow and little ice. I hope you have dealt with/are dealing with the winter crud without any problems.

Glad to hear it wasn’t too bad. No problems here only because I haven’t had to go anywhere. I’m hoping the roads are decent tomorrow as we will probably need to make a grocery run.

18″ to 24″ of snow!?!? Yikes! Stay safe and warm. All that ice sounds treacherous too. We have had some snow (a few inches) and the temperature is suppose to drop overnight to single digits but no where near the weather you are having. Thanks for the coffee. Think I’ll skeedaddle back down south now before the snow flies! 😉

The storm track moved, so we only got about 8″ and then it rained all day – 18 F and rain on top of the snow! It is still raining, so I can’t clean up yet…. At the end of the week I’ll go down to Cape Cod – it was 50 F all day! Funny, because Plymouth, just at the edge of the Cape, was 20! So in 10 miles there was a 30 degree difference…. Yeah, I think the entire east coast will be cold tomorrow. Oh well, it is January.
Have a great week!

True. We went from mid 50s down to our current 26 in just a few hours! Crazy!

Hi T Sumatra for moi….
Mmmmm
And the storm shifted for us too – but it will be super cold tonight and then ice in morning is expected

The novella sounds great and you are a writing machine.
I have not written much – I mean not even my daily paper journal – maybe two entries for all of January/ but it makes up for the months I fill 100 pages! And I know all writers are different and for me – pauses ground me – and help times I have high output and times I have momentum –

Congrats on the appointment and sending prayers and good wishes your way! Also – hope you all stay warm

Some nice Sumatra Roast coming up….
I think the entire east coast is getting that Arctic blast tomorrow. Brrrr.. An hour ago it was 18 and raining, it just warmed up to 21 and is snowing… We are supposed to be out of it, but there are little bands still stretching half way to Ohio….
I write pretty rapidly, but I didn’t work this week, so a lot of time to write. Continuing editing today….
Thanks Y! Have a wonderful week!

I had a flight home this morning and for a few days I was worried I’d be delayed – but whew – made it home safe and barely any rain today (thought it would be worse) but that arctic blast is upon us (can you reheat the rest of my coffee? It is cold just sitting here- lol)☕️

I’m glad your flight made it fine – I know they were talking about a possible airlines mess because of the storm. The north wind is now blowing and the temperatures dropping. I need to reheat everythign ;)

We got another snow storm here and I totally didn’t feel like shoveling. Luckily my darling neighbour blew out my driveway when he did their own. Snow seems never ending where I am. Anyway, hope you have a great week.

We have years that snow is never ending, but this isn’t one of them… Unfortunately, it still isn’t – our snow stopped at 6 or 8 inches and is now freezing rain – it is still in the teens but pouring rain :( They say a half an inch or more of ice.
Anyway, I hope your weekend went well and that you have a great week :)

Sounds like a great writing week. I can’t imagine your having time for anything else at all.
We have lots of snow here, and this afternoon — while I was out — the extreme winds started making things serious. We had a “white out” the whole rest of the day and into tonight. We could hardly see anything because the wind was blowing the snow so hard. We got just a little icy mix first, but the rest has all been snow. I don’t think we’ll get more than 7 or 8 inches though. I used to love seasons, but now I don’t want any significant snow, and I can’t stand temperatures above 80. I’d like to live someplace where I can get my way about the weather all the time, but …..

I want all 4 seasons, but I am not into temperature extremes and have hated heat my entire life – I spent two years in the south and that’s why I live in new Hampshire ;)
The storm track changed so this will be more of an ice event – we have 6 to 8 inches, but it is 16 F and pouring rain! Which it will do for the next 8 hours.
I’m not working right now so I have a lot of time to write. I’m not going to say more, except that when people joke that it would take an act of Congress to get something done, well, that is literally how work is right now ;)

Last I heard. the Cape wasn’t going to get much, but if you are in NH, then you might get a lot more. I actually have no idea because even Harvey, who is usually dead accurate has at least four different maps of how this storm can progress. What I’m pretty sure of — since it is snowing right now — that whatever we get, I think we are in the middle of it. I’m voting for less sleet because we live on the southbound end of a bunny slope and if we get iced-in until the weather breaks, we are stuck. Garry has gotten too old to chop us out of a block of ice and no one we know has a tractor with an ice-breaking shovel.

We were supposed to be on the Cape this weekend but are in NH. It looks like the snow stopped with a little less than 8 inches. It is 16 degrees and pouring rain. Ugh. We may get a half inch or more of ice, which means I can’t shovel until it is all over or face my drive being an ice skating rink.
I hope you don’t get too badly iced in! Too late for today, but can you get sand from your town? I have a couple of 5 gallon buckets I picked up from our local “highway department”. It helps since I do my own ice-chipping as well – I’ve been spending hours a day and still have a glacier for a drive!
Hope you are doing well and keeping warm in this storm.

Good luck dealing with the latest snowmaggedon that has created it’s share of havoc.

Thanks. the track shifted so we got about 8 inches of snow and we will get about a half inch of ice on top of it… Not fun! I can’t shovel or everything is covered in ice…

Rug up and keep warm. I guess when you are stuck indoors you always have writing and your music to keep you company. Next week I look forward to hearing you are again shovelling snow. We are in the midst of a heat wave but we are in a lucky part of the country and although hot it is not unbearable. have a good week and stay out of that storm.

It is funny how warm it is down there compared to how cold it is here! I still haven’t figured out how to trade those few degrees with you ;) The storm changed tracks – it will continue for another 6 or 8 hours, but as freezing rain – it is still far below zero – on top of the snow. It’s bad because i can’t shovel – if I do, everything will be covered in a couple of cm of ice!
I hope your weekend is going well

Knowing your love of shovelling that must be very sad for you. Hopefully it is now warming up a little. Have a good week.

Hey Trent. I’ve always like living where the weather can get adverse but family took me back to northern Calif. and here they kept us. The kids are mid-20s and still finding what they want to do with life and work, so we’re going to be here a while longer – but I’m anxious to get out and I certainly can’t afford to retire here.
Now you have me looking forward to your upcoming news. I’ll be watching and hope you see some neat rewards for your work.

I like 4-seasons, and a full four seasons, so don’t mind the winter, but it has been cold and I hate heating the house…. I have a friend who recently had to move “home” to the Cleveland area because she could no longer afford Northern California. The area she lived in was gorgeous, but the cost of living was perhaps four or five times Ohio. Now me, I’m planning on moving to a more expensive part of the country to retire…. (Cape Cod vs. New Hampshire)

Out here in the middle of France the winter is very mild. Saturday’s is Yellow Vest day, has been since beginning of November . I took a photo from where I was of about 200 people demonstrating peacefully at the round about. I’m a bit bored here in a city but I will have to stay until the weather gets real warm as I can’t afford heating my place in the village. With your kind of arctic temperatures how do you heat your place? Thanks for the coffee. Till next Saturday ! (From threefold twenty dot com )

Don’t ask about heat ;) I have a big, old house and spend more a year on heating than on everything else combined. I also have a small cottage and spend less on heating in a year than in a half a winter month on the house. In a few years I will sell the house and not worry about it…
One of the times I was in France was in the winter. It was just a week in Paris, but it was warmer than the Boston area, so nice.
The Yellow vest movement is not getting as much press over here. Well, most the stories I read about were BBC, so I think it never got a huge amount here.
Despite the boredom, I hope you are hav9ng a good week.

That is very cold for someone like me [who lives in southern Africa where it never snows]. You had a good writing week, I think.

I think unless you live in Siberia or the Yukon, it’s been and will continue to be cold here ;) Perhaps I should have an endless summer and spent what I think of as the winter months down in South Africa ;) Not Australia, though – I don’t think I could stand the heat wave they are now having!

Hi Trent. It’s been a while since I last contributed to this community. What happened that the link up has lost so many people participating? I feel your pain concerning the winter weather. I’m a Florida native and lived in the northeast and midwest for over 20 years. I was not a fan of the cold and snow. When I lived in Chicago there was a Christmas Eve that was -80 with the wind chill. That’s when I had enough and moved back to Florida. I hope this winter wont be too bad for you.

The coffee share went through a few people hosting it as each grew tired, and then was dropped for a few months. When Alison picked it back up, not many people joined at first, but there have been a few weeks that were almost as big as “the old days”.
I really don’t mind winter, but I hate heating my house, and, as I said, I have never seen anything like the ice this year. But I can see the benefits of Florida!
