Hello and Welcome! Come on in. It is still a little chilly out there, but much warmer than it was earlier today! It was down right frigid. So I can get you a mug of strong coffee, a cuppa tea or other warm beverage. It is sunny, windy and still just a bit below freezing. And where are we? Some of you may know that the Beatles’ mug collection is on Cape Cod.
A few quick things – yes, we had a bit of “Polar Vortex” here, but it wasn’t as bad as in New Hampshire, which wasn’t as bad as Chicago. Frigid, but livable. First thing Thursday, when it was just a smidge above 0 F, I took this photo, asking if i should go kayaking (too windy ;) )
Later in the day it froze over and is still frozen. Also on Thursday I took a walk in the woods and took this photo:
OK, real quick, last week I said I was returning to work. yep. it was busy. Yep, I’m glad I’m back :)
OK, for the long awaited news. Some of you know that I have a 4-season cottage on Cape Cod. yes, that is where I am now. I take a lot of photos down here. Well, I just bought a house. We closed on Friday. It is an old house with a huge amount of personality. A lot of work to be done, but that is fine. We will sell the cottage after we do some initial work. The idea is for it to be our retirement home and so live here full time some day. I know, I’ll miss New Hampshire, but I do love it here.
I have been at the new house most of the day and will go back soon. So if you don’t see me, that is where I am.
Thanks for stopping by for a coffee and a chat! If you have a coffee chat I will try to stop by, but I can’t guarantee it.
The original Coffee Share kind of died out, but it has been revived! Eclectic Alli is hosting a coffee share. This week’s share is here. and the link up is here.
Good Luck with creating a new comfy environment for yourself in this new house. Soon .. it will have all of the personal notes you love. Change can be adventurous. I hope your new journey takes you to wonderful heights.
Congratulations 🎊🎉🎈🍾

Thanks, Isadora! It’s going to be a lot of fun, but a lot of work! making this house into our home. but I’m not in a rush – we won’t move into full time for a few years.

Congrats on the new house, and good luck with the closing – Hope all goes well! … Then comes the moving. YUK! So stressful … and to think my last move was maybe 5 miles away. On the other side, moving leads to a new beginning. :)

Thanks Frank. the closing was Friday, which was why I was missing all weekend. We aren’t’ really moving much yet – thre is still a lot of work to do. We will slowly move everything out of the cottage over the next couple of months so we can sell it, but the big move from New Hampshire is still a few years away…

Congrats on a successful closing! I was thinking this coming Friday, not last. Given your work, I’ve got the feeling you can do it from anywhere. Good luck with the rehab project.

That house looks amazing! I can’t imagine living in a house that big, but it definitely has a lot of personality. Then again, I can’t imagine living in a place where the water can freeze just all of a sudden in a day. I don’t even own a true winter coat because we don’t need them in Houston. Try not to work too hard! See you around the coffee share!

Thanks. Yeah, the weather around here… As to big houses, my house in New Hampshire is actually a little bigger and I’ve grown used to having a room for exercise equipment, a room for my music equipment, etc. It’s still a few years before I will live in the new place, so a lot of time to fix it up. Have a great week! I’ll try to stop by later :)

Congratulations on your new home! It looks wonderful, like it has a million stories to tell. It will be fun bring it to life. Stay warm up there. We’ve had a bit of the single digits around here too but not nearly as bad as some areas so I’m not complaining!

Thanks! Our first few projects aren’t that exciting – rewiring the house, a new roof on the barn, etc., but I’ll try to mention renovations as we move along. I took a bunch of interior photos today, but I don’t know if any came out. For one thing, I had finished before I realized I had my camera on ISO 1600… I’ll spend a little longer on photos the next time.

omg that house is dripping with character. I would love to know the floor plan. Congrats!

The inside has has a ton of personality – a floor diagram might be hard ;) I’m working on one, but it is strange. Like the standing in the door between the kitchen and the dining room, my right hand is on the kitchen’s outer wall and left hand on the dining room’s outer wall! And that isn’t even including the foot difference in floor levels between the two rooms…. And I think 5 doors into the house… Yeah, they don’t make them like that any more ;) Thanks!

I love architecture. Old houses like that habe their own rhyme and reason

I have a big old house in NH that is like that. The new still has more of the inside details and such, and has even more personality, but I ma used to the charming old houses, even if they are pains in the ass.
