Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you a nice mug of very strong French/Sumatra Roast blend, a cuppa tea or other beverage. Actually, it is approaching lunch time, so something else may be in order. It is a sunny day and beginning to warm up. And where are we? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from Cape Cod.
This is one of those weeks that I have a hard time coming up with things that I did. We had a winter storm and so I spent some time on Wednesday shoveling wet, heavy snow. I also had a haircut on Wednesday and drove to the Cape in the evening. I did some writing, but for the most time, after finishing the drafting work of the two novellas and finishing writing the serial story I’ve been posting these last few weeks, I have been uninspired. Or maybe it is just tired since I haven’t slept well.
I have done a little bit of preliminary stuff on the new house. Not a lot, but we have to start some place.
It was a busy week at work, though there is little I can point to and say”That! That is what I did.”
My exercise routine has been off. i do hope to run this afternoon, but am not sure I’ll b able to – I have lot planned!
Speaking of having a lot planned, I need to be off.

Maybe. If I’m tired it is lack of sleep – I had a couple of 5 hour or less nights last week – I do best with 8.

Yes – but I amazed at how some folks seem to do better on less…
And did you notice how we have a little period of time where we can get away with low sleep –
And then after so many days our sleep debt catches up with us

There are rhythms we get into were we seem to need more or less. I also can go a few nights with little sleep without an issue, but it does catch up eventually. I think the people who do well on little sleep are a very small minority, that most who claim to are either deluding themselves or are sitting on a time bomb that may someday catch up….

Because humans are made to sleep and the brain does important cleaning and the nervous system cleans and immune system heals the bidy – and so it is only a meter of time until they have consequences – we humans might have plenty of diversity but biologically we are all the same with needs for sleep and rest….
and my husband is a nap taker and for him this nurtured good health. I know some folks who never take naps but they get full night’s of sleep regularly.
And did I ever tell you about Michelle’s husband -? He is (or was about 8 years ago) a police officer and had all these knee issues and the doc figured out why it was not healing – not enough sleep! Note that they did not say not enough rest – it was actual sleep he needed andba month off worked and he healed during certain sleep stages there are very crucial immune system functions and whew – sleep is an elixir

Yeah- and for me I have seasons – depends on schedule but I prefer the non nap phases – and prefer a decent morning walk time and decent bedtime – but such is life — and nap days help a lot

It does impact people in different ways.
And in some of my healing circles (those of us healing from intestinal stuff – like I had a seafood parasite and other things going on in there) and our protocol changed a little (stricter) a few days before the full moon – during -and couple days after .
Anyhow – hope you get some sound sleep in spite of the full moon
I never needed mine – but one of my gut cleaning kits came with orthinine (amino acid) as it supposedly helps sleep.
Do you take any supplements?

I don’t really do supplements beyond the occasional krill oil or Vitamin D. Nothing for sleep. Having two boxers sleep directly on top of me, like they have the last couple of nights, doesn’t help matters ;) I will be alone for a couple of nights this weekend and should sleep well then.

Yeah / I hear ya – and I was just going to suggest magnesium chloride (love love love it – for so many things and it does help some
Folks get more sleep (I like life flo brand and the flakes are under 20$ for a 2 pound tub! )

Thanks Y. I did take magnesium for a while. I forget the reason, but my massage therapist recommended it after I injured myself falling off a cliff….

Well be careful taking just magnesium without other things – usually minerals are synergistic – I LOVE Trader Joe’s cal mag in a green base (synergistic formula for 5.99) and just stated taking this formula alled “bone up”
Anyhow – just keep thinking about it because it takes a while to mentally wrap around supplements

Ugh! Shoveling snow? It got close to eighty here in Jax, Fl yesterday! I have noticed that the sun sets a little later these days, and I have really enjoyed the sunsets. I hope you have had some enjoyable sunsets as well. Have a great week!

Last night’s sunset was gorgeous, though I didn’t take the time I should have to enjoy it. And I do notice the days getting longer – up here our winter days are even shorter than down there, but, of course, our summer days are longer.

Have a cookie with your coffee. You know, one day, you won’t be working and you’ll forget all of this. It’s kind of amazing how your mind just disgorges your working knowledge as soon as it knows you don’t need it. It’s one of the really solid benefits of retirement. You get your brain back. All of it.

Part of me is really looking forward to it. Technically I can at the end of the year, but realistically, at least 5 years away. Oh well, it will take 5 years to fix up the new house ;) (My dad has been busier since he retired than before. I don’t know if I will be like that. Now in his mid to late 80s and health not what it once was, he is slowing down.)

New houses are just so much fun! (she says with a straight face). Getting them perfect (or in my case, livable) takes time, so don’t rush it.

There are a few things we have to do to make this place livable. The big one is electric work – they never did any updates since the 1950s! It was scary seeing the things they had plugged in! Nope, I’m not going to trust it until it is all redone. yeah, a lot of fun… And I am not going to rush it. This will be my retirement home, and I’m not going to retire for quite a few years…

Our house was built in 1939, and we bought from the original family. Some updates may have been done somewhere in the 1950s. The wiring itself was adequate, but we had to replace every overhead light and the exterior lights. We had every plumbing pipe in the house replaced. Every window had to be replaced – they were all originals and some couldn’t even be opened. The downstairs bathroom was unusable because it was so old and disgusting, so we had to gut it and replace everything (sink, toilet, tub, walls, window, door). We had to put up a fence (around 1/3 acre). And, then there was the hot water tank and furnace. We’re not done yet – every room in the house needs repainting because the prior owners smoked for 70 years and never freshened up the original paint. We need new carpeting at some point, for the same reason. Then, hopefully, we’ll be done. I’m pretty much out of money – and credit – but I do love my new home despite all the grief.

That does sound like a lot of work! This isn’t quite that bad. The electric is, or worse! Plumbing seems fine. All wood floors in good shape. Walls have ugly paper, but we can paint a bit at a time. We’ll replace the hot water, but not the furnace. Windows are all new! New insulation. Other stuff. A lot of work needed on barn. Other stuff. Still, a charming place.

I always keep busy, even when there is nothing on my plate ;) Thanks! I have slow been starting things, but until I can get the electricians in, I don’t want to to do too much, though I may start painting at the end of the month.

I have plenty of weeks like that now…when suddenly a whole week is gone and I have no idea what I did. This week I moved snow around a lot. We do our driveway and the neighbor’s across the street and it seemed, for awhile, like it snowed every stinking night. I never know if they have places they need to get, so if it snows overnight I like to get over there pretty early and get their driveway clear. This week we had heavy wet snow so it was more work. And we had one sunny day so I took the Katie-girl to her park and we had a blast…and today I walked for a long time at another park, without her, cause she slows me down. And I think that was my entire week!

Snow removal and walking, with and without the dog – sounds like half of my week ;) Luckily we just had the one storm, but it was still a lot of moving snow around. Do you plow, snow blow or shovel? Or some combination? I used to snow blow, but I have found it easier to shovel.

I forgot until I read your comment – the drive to Cape Cod is 2 1/2 hours or so – it snowed, sometimes hard, for almost an hour, starting when I go on the highway. A little stressful ;) But it was nice being here. I did work two days here (I can tele-work), but it was nice. I hope you are having a great weekend and have a wonderful week ahead :)

I’ve had weeks like that, but at least you have the new house, and you’ve made a start on it. That’s a lot of progress right there. And if you wrote anything at all, that’s going forward.

It wasn’t a wasted week, but it was a tiring week. I’m taking a couple of days off at the end of the month (to do work!), so that will help.

Typically I like busy weeks, but I also like weeks where I accomplish things – this week was like Alice and the Red Queen sprinting as fast as they can to stay in the same place…
