This was a roller-coaster of a week with some big ups and some big valleys.  Pretty much, though, I’ll paint it positive :)  I had a few ideas for the weekly smile in mind, you know, from those “ups” that I mentioned, but it all changed yesterday evening when a new smile came about.

A little background first.

There are some old gardens and ancient landscaping around my house in New Hampshire.  Sure, we’ve done a lot, but a lot of old still exists.  One thing was an old Magnolia tree.  It is almost inaccessible, but you could always see the blooms.  A few years ago, it disappeared.  I worked my way to it and discovered that some type of vine had completely covered it and ripped it down.  The trunk was broken about four feet off the ground.  Losing the beautiful tree which was there for at least 60 years, maybe much, much longer, was sad.

Yesterday I was getting in my car and noticed some color on the other side of the impenetrable wall of Forsythia.  I worked my way back and found several shoots growing of of the old broken trunk.  Some are stretching high into the air.

That is my smile, the resilience of life.

And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small.  Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile!  Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)

Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.

    Even though we have had nearly continuous rain, the flowers are beginning to bloom. I’m not sure why, but I feel that I’ve somehow made peace with our political nightmare. The world will keep turning, spring will come, then summer. A good friend of ours died today. He had the most beautiful garden I’ve ever seen. I hope he got to see it bloom.

      The Cape was gorgeous over the end of last week and NH is now in bloom. There is that old cliche about April showers…

      There is a scene in the book LotR were Frodo sees the stars and realizes that even evil has its limits. It might take millions of years, but life will return to the planet no matter what stupid things we do….

      Sorry about your friend. Hopefully he did get to see it bloom.

      It’s funny because I was going to use a “prettier” photo for my Smile until I saw those flowers where last year I only saw a dead tree. I’ll go check out that vain goose…
