If you have been following me for a while you may know that I spend a lot of time on the kayak. There have been weeks where I kayaked every day, months were I was on the water for at least 15 days of the month and years where i was on the water at least once every month. if you haven’t been following me for very long, this may come as a surprise…. I just haven’t been on the water very much in the last year. There has been a lot going on and I haven’t had the time. I think the last time I had the boat on the water was last August, though it is possible I did get out once or twice in September.
Last Thursday was beautiful. I took about 30 minutes and did a quick paddle around Swan Pond. It was great! Saturday began too windy to get on the water, but the wind was a lot lower by the afternoon. I was able to get on the water for over an hour. I saw a lot osprey as I was on the water. Even better than Thursday!
My smile this week was getting back on the water kayaking for the first time in many months.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small. Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile! Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).
Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.
You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.
Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

“There are days I go in search of the kind, compassionate, loving and beautiful. Despite what we sometimes see on the news, FB and elsewhere, there is much more beauty in the world than ugliness, much more kindness than hate or cruelty. Perhaps we should all have a goal to make at least one person smile every day.”

Yes. Spring is here 100% with a few 80 F + days! Though kayaking can be a winter sport ;)

When we were living near the ocean (about most of my life) I never thought about kayaking, Now we live more inland and there are a few lakes in reasonable distance. have been thinking on and off about it. What price range should I be thinking about for a beginner?
My weekly smile is about my post in general – am coming from a water land:) https://thejeshstudio.wordpress.com/2019/05/15/across-the-pond/

I don’t really kayak on the ocean itself often, mostly on tidal ponds and rivers, and when in New Hampshire on small lakes. Flat water is the key, but some place interesting. You should give it a try! Perhaps rent a few times to be sure. I’ve seen OK beginner kayaks in the 300-400 range, but I haven’t looked too much.
I’ll stop by and see your smile in a couple of minutes :)

That is fabulous, Trent. Kayaking sounds great. I am happy that I wrote three book reviews this past weekend. Your book is next on my list.

I love being out on the water. Although I work hard, it is relaxing. Three book reviews – that’s great. I am awful writing reviews. I didn’t know I was on your list. I looking forward to it (I hope ;) )

My favorite place in the whole world is on the water. Just about any water. Glad you were able to get out. I have a kayak at our lake in Alabama…usually spent every evening (at least) out on the water watching the sun set. Peaceful.

I don’t go out in the evening as much as I should, and it will be much harder at the new location, but I do love spending a lot of time on the water.

It can be kind of scary to get back to the house after dark, I don’t think I’m very visible and lots of ski boats and pontoons also heading back home.

That’s the thing about Swan Pond – I’m sure you’ve seen some of my sunset photos – there is nobody out there in the evening, which is part of what scares – is it legal? Anyway, as long as I still have my kayak there and haven’t moved it to the new place, I may do it once….
