Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you a coffee, tea or other beverage. Yeah, it’s after noon, so I’ll have to make another batch. Also it is a strange, humid day – it is raining and feels warm. Where are we? That photo at the top, now out of date with the release of a new book, was taken in New Hampshire.
It was a very busy week with a lot going on. Like most such weeks, there really isn’t much to say.
OK, I did get a new synthesizer and have been playing around with it. I have devoted this weekend to making a bit of a demo song. I will most likely post a review coming up. For a small taste, I did a super quick, down and dirty experiment with it within an hour of it arriving:
(If you don’t see the video below, click here)
Anyway, I did a little writing. I had posted the first chapter of a story which people seemed to like so this week I put up the second chapter and started working on the third. After 24 hours it had six views, so I pulled it down and reposed (so new time stamp, goes to the top of people’s readers. So now, 48 hours after that and 72 since the first post, it has had 14 views. I will not finish this story. Obviously people hate it.
Beyond that, there has been a lot of running around (shopping, massage, visiting, exercising, dentist appointment, etc.) which is why this is so much later than usual. And I still have a lot to do before the weekend is over.
So, that being said, I need to be headed out. Thanks for stopping by! If you have a coffee share, I’ll try to stop by, but it might not be until late Sunday or Monday. In fact, it is possible i won’t see anybody’s post – just one of those weekends…. Have a great week :)
The original Coffee Share kind of died out, but it has been revived! Eclectic Alli is hosting a coffee share. This week’s share is here. and the link up is here.
Love the music, Trent! I am partway through The Fireborn, and loving it.

Thanks on both accounts! I hope you enjoy the rest of The Fireborn :)

Sounds like a super busy week catching up, I can relate to this. After working on something as intense as moving, appointments tend to pile up. . I have a couple I should make myself. I’m pretty pleased that I did take my car to get a tuneup at the mechanic this weekend. There was nothing wrong with it, I just hope that it will stay that way.
About your story that didn’t get as much attention as it should, maybe it had to do with Father’s Day Weekend? We tried to celebrate my daughter’s dad yesterday, which isn’t all that easy, he’s a busy man. It went so and so, but my daughter was very happy, and to me, that’s what matters the most. Have an awesome new week!

There are times I want to be a preschool kid and do what I want to do all day and not worry about all of the things in life that adults have to take care of, such as appointments, etc. lol. Maybe when I retire, though I doubt it.
Typically if I grumble about something on the blog, I step away and grumble and then come back so it never comes out in writing, but I had set aside 15 minutes to blog, and so it was on my mind… No, it wasn’t the weekend since both days I posted it all of my other posts for the week continued to get pretty close to the normal amount of views, even more than the story on the days it was posted and reposted. Anyway, I’m bitching again. Sorry :)
I did have a long phone call with my dad (he’s in his mid 80s). I will visit in a couple of weeks. Glad your daughter was happy with the bit of celebration she had with her dad.
I hope you have a wonderful week!

I agree, I am blessed that I still have both of my parents around and that they are both relatively healthy.
Glad the week got of to a good start :)

I think I’m not alone when I say I have a lot of eye problems trying to read long pieces on the computer. My eyes don’t like it. Usually, I listen to books rather than reading. I rarely read print if I can avoid it these days. I notice this is true of Garry, too. We were both enthusiastic readers.
I can’t make up my mind if it’s terminal eye-strain or I just don’t like print on the monitor. Or both. I think many of us don’t read on the computer. It’s not the content. It’s our eyes. Just so you don’t think everyone hates your work. Some of us just don’t read on the monitor.

Yeah, I get it. I always understand when I post a long story or post that most people will skip it. I have put up 5000 word posts before! As to fiction, I do enjoy it in paper much more than on the screen.
I’ll admit (and did on another comment I just wrote) that I’m being slightly childish about this one, but still, posting it twice this received less views than any post in the past 4 years. Just a bit of a shock. And I will finish the story, just not post it on line as a serial….
I hope your weekend went well and you didn’t get as much rain as we got up here in southern NH!

Oh, we got the rain. Lots and lots of rain. This is why my house is green. Who knew that green mold grows on vinyl siding?

I knew it was supposed to rain yesterday, but I didn’t expect it to pour so hard! I don’t think it rained in Jersey and I’m not sure about even most of Connecticut, but really you aren’t that far south of me.

I feel like we live in a rain forest. It’s been wet more than dry since the winter.

There is summer fever. I do like to spend as much time outside as possible…
I hate being a “stats nerd”, but I have noticed views go down starting late May as people get out and do things. That’s great – I think people need to spend more time doing!
I hope you had a great weekend :)

June and July are always my weakest months. But I guess that’s normal. Even I want to be out and about and not always locked up with the computer.

My stats are always lowest in the summer, but August is always my low month – I usually don’t blog at all the last week before Labor Day.

I’m going to actually try to take a vacation. We’ve just got to work out how to manage the dogs while we are away. We have where to go … so it’s canine babysitting that’s the issue. That will probably take me offline for a week in July. I’m pretty worn out anyway and a vacation is very overdue.

Canine babysitting is an issue. We kennel the dogs if we have to, but it is expensive (they love the place we use, because they play all day….). I hope you do get a chance to get away.

With three dogs, the price is really out of sight. I think my son will do it, but it gets complicated because of his work schedule and other stuff. But we’ll work it out. I also think it may be our last vacation for a while. Two of our furries are getting old and I don’t like leaving them. For that matter, WE are getting old too!

I’m not surprised the stats change. I think people are outdoors more or have family visits. Have a great week, Trent.

When the weather is nice, people do need to be out and active… Hope you are having a good week :)

Hey Trent – it is the season of distractions. So much so that I’m way behind on reading the works of the blogs I follow. I was interested that you decided to truncate your new story in, what for me seemed to be, such a short beta-reader period and (most likely) limited feedback. On the other hand, i trust your experience with such efforts and especially appreciate that you really do want your work to be read and are willing to adjust accordingly.
I won’t attempt to judge either way, but I envy your ability to have gotten where you are with your readers. Readers are very valuable, and we can never have enough of them, but without good writers all that literacy demand would be lost to Netflix.
Lead on my friend.

Hi Gary – I will admit that I’m being slightly “childish” in my response ;) For the vast majority of posts 90% of views are in the first day (things with link-parties are different). So if I get 6 views in one day, well, not a lot. In fact, that’s the lowest of any post since my first or second year of blogging. Even 14 is lower than almost any post in the last 4 years. That’s with two separate posts. Anyway, as i said, a slightly childish response to it and I most likely will continue the story, just not post any of it.

Oh, sorry, I hit “send” too soon :) Thanks. Readers are very important, as are writers. I follow some very good writers here. A lot of these people really inspire me :)
I hope you had a great weekend and have a good week ahead.

This is the season for doctor, dentist, and ophthalmologist appointments, here, and I hate living by a calendar schedule day by day. I hope that you will find time, today, for everything on your list!

This year the doctor put me on a six month schedule, so it will be the first time I’ve seen him in the summer…. Dentist is always 6 months. Yeah, busy, busy. Looking forward to an upcoming break. Hope you had a good day.
