I took a day from work last Monday. I was on Cape Cod, as I often am, and it was a beautiful. A friend was visiting from Denver, so we had a day for “flat country” activities. On Cape Cod that means water.
In the morning we paddled up the Bass River, a large tidal body of water that separates Dennis from Yarmouth. I was in the back of the two person kayak while two ladies traded off between the front seat of the kayak and a standup paddle board.
After a short while we stopped on a sand bank in the middle of the river. Yes, it was low tide. We spent a half of an hour wading and looking at the sea-life beneath our feet. We left there and parked the kayak on a little sandy beach that was covered in little fiddler crabs. We swam out into the deeper water and hung out around the standup paddle board. We swam, floated (very buoyant water), hung off the board and just enjoyed ourselves. We later moved to a new beach, a little less private, but nice and did the same thing, just splashing and not worrying about a thing. After lunch we hit the “real” beach (West Dennis Beach) and swam in the ocean. I only stayed about an hour, but it was fun.
The good part about it was that it felt like one of those long ago summer days from my childhood. Totally carefree, nothing to do but hang out in the water, splash around, swim, float, etc.
That is my smile for the week, a long summer day just like those from my childhood.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small. Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile! Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).
Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.
You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.
Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

Sounds like you had plenty to smile abut, Trent. Being out on the water always gives me plenty to smile about too and I love being out in nature. During the last week, I’ve had a fabulous dinner with old friends celebrating my 50th birthday and today I started attending a series of 6 information sessions for people living with chronic conditions. When I walked in, I spotted one of my closest friends. We rarely seem to catch up so this is fantastic and there were other people in the group I connected with too. It was also good because roughly half the group was youngish and sometimes when I attend these things, everyone is over 80. So, they gave me much to smile about.
Hope you have a great Trent Trent and all.
Best wishes,
Rowena

Nature and water is always great and smile worthy. I think part of last Monday was the totally letting go and forgetting all responsibilities – something that is difficult!
I did read about your birthday celebrations. The sessions for people with chronic conditions sounds good, particularly if you aren’t 30 or 40 years younger than everyone else… Glad it started out well.
Have a great week!

Hope I’ll come one time to Cape cod – heard so many things about it – and it’s probably also a great place to paint! My weekly smile is very apparent – the young painter! https://wp.me/p9EWyp-14H
Sorry, I had a smile for last week too, just forgot to link it.

Cape Cod is nice and there is a lot to do, not all of them involving water… A lot of painters find inspiration there, but for artistic inspiration, I’m more taken with the rugged Maine coast. I will be by in few minutes to see this week’s smile.

Yes, I know about the artists and Maine. I don’t know if I ever gave you my art website, but painting nature is only one of my interests. On that website, when you scroll all the way to the bottom, you can see the subjects I have organized most of my paintings in http://artnotes2016.wordpress.com
Enjoy!

Sounds so relaxing. Sometimes I’ll have a momentary flashback to an experience from my childhood, and it will just make my day. I’m truly grateful for all the very good things and experiences I had as a child and for my parents, who were so loving and protective of my sister and me. They made so many sweet childhood memories possible for us. Glad you were able to take a little “trip” back into yours.

I do have a lot of great childhood memories, and yes, most are centered around my parents and family, though I spent a huge amount of time exploring on my own or with friends (typical boy ;) ). This wasn’t like any of those, except for the feel of the day – that timeless, no responsibilities, just floating nature of it. So it didn’t recall a specific event, just that idea that usually seems lost in the (distant) past.
