The Weekly Smile for the 19th of August, 2019 #weeklysmile

weeklysmile2a

For most of us, most of the time life is made up of small events.  We have a typical routine, do some of the same things over and over and, well, we just live.  Sure, there are often big events, both for good and bad – a raise in pay or vacation on one side, but a death of a friend or a very large unexpected expense on the other side.  When we look back, we often see these large events as life, but really, it’s the small stuff.

Today is another “the small things in life” smile post.

There were a lot of small things to smile about.  Watching hummingbirds as I sit on the back patio.  Playing catch with my boxer – he is at the top of a small hill; I toss the ball; he catches it and then drops it; the ball rolls down the hill to my feet; I pick up the ball; repeat.  A long walk in the woods.  Standing in town, chatting with a friend for an hour.  Visiting friends I don’t see often.  Running and other exercise.  Reading.  Writing.  Talking to family on the phone.  Seeing friend’s and family’s vacation photos on line.  Chatting with fellow bloggers in the comments.  Getting a lot of work done both at work and around the house.  Walks, and runs, with the dogs.  A smile, “hello”, and wave to a stranger as i walk through town or run or am shopping.  Playing piano or my synthesizers.   Etc.

There are a lot of these little moments.  None are really worth a post or talking about in depth.  But all of them are life over the last week.  And all made me smile.

This week my smile is about all of the little things in life.

What made you smile?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small.  Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile!  Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).   Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile.  (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.

You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.

Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

I love the small things – and many were similar to mine – and the funny thing is that I read this post after I joined in with Debbie’s quote this week –
and see there is some harmony in ideas with devb’s Wednesday quote and your weekly smile small things –
    love when this happens –

I saw a few other “It’s the small things” type posts this week and I know they weren’t copying me, so maybe that feeling is just in the air. I’ll be over in a few to check out your smile :)

yeah – smiling at the idea of being copied – one time I thought someone did (and sometimes folks do – it is part of the circle of ideas – natural and we influence each other right…) anyhow, I thought someone copied me – and then saw I never published the post I was thinking was sorta copied. lol
and take your time – ttys

Your post brings up some interesting things. Lately I have it that “small” things, turn out to be big things down the road. So am thinking right now, that there are only big things in life – even the small things are over time are (or can be) big:) My weekly smile is the new coffee “The Pony Expresso” – someone made a big mistake in the sign! https://wp.me/p9EWyp-18m
    Thanks for hosting!

That is one way to look at it, that when you look back at the import things, it is all important, the day to day details that make up your life. “Pony Expresso” sounds like quite the coffee. I’ll be over to take a look soon.

It’s the little things in life that are important, the ones we remember. This topic, little things, little moments, it has fascinated me for sometime! I am glad you got to enjoy so many little things this past week!

The small things are the most important, particularly if you are talking about those small, every day interactions with friends and family and other such little things that make up the majority of our lives. Thanks :)

There is a scene in a Sopranos episode that really has stayed with me. Tony, Carmela, and their kids are having dinner at a restaurant and Tony looks at his kids and says something like they will soon have their own families and his wish is that they remember the small things like having a simple meal with the family. He says it’s the little things that are important.

The little things, like dinner with family, not the big things, like murder, that come up as a crime boss, are what’s important ;) lol, yeah, I know, if he was cookie-cutter mobster the show wouldn’t have been popular, and the script writers were genius, hitting on truths everyone faces.

In many ways the “little things” really are the “big things” since they include normal every day interaction with friends and family (including furry family ;) ). What can be bigger than that?

It’s so true that some of the simplest things are really the most important in our lives — because they are the things that actually make up a life. If we had to wait on the “big” things before we had a reason to smile, we’d be sour-faced so much of the time. :)

I know it is for me…I’ve been on the laptop literally all day…and a number of times I had to tell myself to “breathe, already, breathe!” Ridiculous!

I really like your conversational style–comfortable, homey, like we really see each other “in town” while doing errands. I agree about small stuff–it’s what life is about, and is largely the “good stuff”. I’ll be back later with my responsive smile post :)
