I am held captive
You seem to control my life
Always in focus
I remember being free
When a phone was just a phone

OK, so I went back and chose a drawing almost at random and wrote a poem based on it ;) We were just talking about drawings I used to post on the blog, so this is the outcome.

Written for Colleen’s Poetry Challenge. This is the first week of the month so it is poet’s choice of words. Let’s see, what words should I chose, I mean what words DID I chose before I wrote this… mobile and immobile.
Great Tanka, Trent! I love the drawing too. I can’t imagine how I survived for so long without a smartphone. ;) xo

Thanks, Vashti! Actually, yeah, they do make life so much easier, don’t they? There are few objects that I can think of that changed life quite as much.

There are people who can’t function if their phone isn’t in easy reach… Thanks.

I have to think of Maxwell Smart’s shoe and how much a joke a truly mobile phone was back then ;)

Thanks, Colleen! After the conversation on your blog I am going to try to dig up more drawings I did for the blog.

You should create some Haiga poetry with your drawings like Kerfe does. You are very talented. :D

Thanks, Colleen. I often do take some time to match my images to my words with the poems, but haven’t tried to go that far. Yet. May have to give it a try :)

Your drawing is really good, Trent, and so is your poem. I didn’t realise you had designed some of your own covers until I read your author interview over at Colleen’s blog.

Thanks, Robbie. In the comments on Colleen’s interview I was talking about some of the drawings I used to do for the blog. I tried to put up a new drawing every week. The problem, of course, is that it is time consuming! But I will try bring a few of them up on occasion.

Well done – I don’t love “all” tankas and have actually yawned and left the ones with too many conjunctions and articles – but your poem here today made me start to like them again –
And love the pairing of the drawing
In the 80s I paid my brother 5$ to install a red one like that in my room

Thanks, Y. I can’t remember the last time I saw an old phone like that. Of course, the old phone is being displayed on the screen of a smart phone, so old meets new. The story I drew this for was pretty forgettable, but I do like the drawing.
