I flip the leaf of the calendar, as the leaf outside of my window flips and heads towards the ground. I knew it! It is October! That means it is almost time for the spirits to rise on that most special day of the year, Halloween. To raise out own spirits, we need to start the spiced cider boiling, and all of you witches need to make an even more special brew. For:
The leaves are changing
Halloween is almost here
Fix a special treat
Autumn’s dark and deadly brew
Boiled in a witches Cauldron

This was written for Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge. This is the first day of the month, so it is poet’s choice of words. This week i did a Haibun with a Tanka.

Once again I chose one of my drawings. Actually, I picked the drawing first. It is a frame from a video I made as a promo for my first book, The Fireborn. Here is the Video:

Thanks, Robbie! Halloween is my favorite. Part of it is that I love Autumn in general but also (don’t tell anyone) my birthday is October 31…. Maybe that’s why I have a dark side ;)

Oh that is fun, Trent. My mom’s is 21 October and our Great grannie’s is 28 October, but that isn’t quite the same although they are getting Halloween themed cakes.

I know a lot of people with October birthdays, but have only met a handful of other Halloween birthdays. One of my jokes is that there is always a party on my birthday… unfortunately I’m never invited to it ;) I am pretty boring on Halloween, but I still love the day.

I thought all American’s went to Halloween parties. It seems to be your most popular holiday.

It is very popular. A lot of people dress up. But there aren’t as many parties as the media would make it sound. It mostly just gives people an excuse to bring out their dark side, decorate their houses and dress up. There is also Trick-or-treat, with all of the kids going house to house, so the biggest holiday for candy sales!
