Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of a very strong dark roast (this week it is heavy on Italian Roast…), a cuppa tea or other beverage. It is sunny and beautiful outside, but a little chilly and windy. Not as windy as yesterday (sustained winds of over 20 mph/32 kph), but still noticeable. Oh, where are we? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being on Cape Cod, though it is the summer photo and I may need to switch back to winter mode soon!
It has been warmer than usual up until Thursday. Thursday the temperatures plunged to slightly below normal. The forecast had a cold week ahead, but it has changed so it will be closer to average for this time of year. Hopefully we will get some fall colors to go with the fall temperatures!
Thursday as I was playing with the dogs in the back yard (in New Hampshire) and followed them up the wooded hillside, I noticed that although the leaves were still green, there was a yellow glow of autumn. I went back and grabbed my phone. A couple of comments – it is impossible to see scale in this photo – I could not put my arms around any of those trees and it would take three people for the biggest – they are huge and towering. Also, the hill is much steeper when not seeing it through the super-wide-angle of the phone. Much, much steeper.
I came down to Cape Cod on Thursday (I usually come down Wednesday night, but was too busy). Yesterday was a beautiful day, though I worked all day and did some work on the house after work. Still great.
I want to spend as much time outside today as possible, though I still have a lot of work I need to do on the house.
Anyway, if you didn’t get the hint, that means I have to get up and start moving (OK, I did run 5 miles/ 8 km this morning, down to the beach, including 2 miles on the beach front…). Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a great weekend. If you have a coffee share I will try to stop in and chat.
The Weekend Coffee share is hosted by Eclectic Ali . This week’s share is here. and the link up is here.
Hi Trent,
While you’re on the lookout for Autumn colour, I was out admiring a few wildflowers on a short bushwalk with our nephew who is visiting from Canada. The weather’s been really pleasant here and a bit on the cool side most of the time. I went to a jazz concert yesterday, which you would’ve enjoyed. It featured John Morrison and his wife Jacki Cooper and my friend’s son was playing in the AIM Big Band.
After seeing three shows of Swan Lake, I ended up incredibly overstimulated and was getting quite lah-lah over the weekend. Feel like I needed to mellow out in a dark room for a bit, although my writing’s been prolific.
Anyway, hope you have a great week.
Best wishes,
Rowena

So your idea of watching/listening to Swan Lake forever might be a little much? lol We do still have some wildflowers here and will for a few more weeks. Typically everything becomes brown and grey by early to mid November, but it may stretch out a bit this year. I hope your writing keeps flowing and that you have a great week :)

Thanks very much, Trent. I’m thinking I might really get stuck into the writing this week with half the family away and out daughter will be out much of the time. More dance rehearsals for a performance next weekend with the Dance Team at the studio. I sometimes feel I need to remind her that she has a family but that goes with being a teen and I don’t want clingy kids either. Being a writer is a bit incompatible with that.
Best wishes,
Ro

You got the heat. 50 miles away we got bitter cold. Glad the weather isn’t changing.

We had several cold days, which I missed by being on the Cape ;) I turned on my heat when I got home, but as soon as the house warmed up, I turned it off – it’s going to be in the 70s today! I was talking to a friend who lives in the hills above Worcester and I think his weather is much closer to yours than to ours.

This is a very beautiful area, and autumn is by the far the best season. So far it’s been a little dull, but hopefully we’ll have the full spectrum of fall colors soon :) Hope you have a good week.

Love the photos! I miss the tall trees and the shelter from the sun. Nice to see a slope covered by them.
I expect we will start seeing fall colors after the hard frost nights that are predicted for the end of the week. We finally have a day, here, with sunshine and no rain since sunrise. Best wishes for the week!

Thanks, this is a pretty part of the world. We are seeing a little more color after the cool weekend, but it is still not as nice as most years.
i hope you enjoyed your sunny day and have a great week!

Looks beautiful, the hammock as well! You probably have true fall weather now? We had temps in the 80s today, miraculous! :)

It has been cool the last few days and we are getting some color, but so far not like a typical year. We did hit 80 last week. Twice.
the backyard at the Cape Cod house is nice – much flatter than in NH ;) The hammock is still up (the cushion is in the barn, but takes two minutes to get out). I think next week, when I’m down there, I will put it away and call summer officially done.

That top photo is very enticing. We are getting warmer than usual weather here too. We are already battling bushfires. It does not bode well for summer.
Don’t you hate it when you can’t show how really steep a hill is in real life??

My backyard at the house on Cape Cod is a great place to sit… I hope you don’t have too rotten of a fire season. Weather is getting more extreme, so I fear for the worst, but hoe for the best. Someday I’ll go out with a “normal” lens and see if I can get some photos that show how steep it is. Problem is, the photos would not be panoramic at all. The cellphone camera does a great job with the big sky, open panorama pictures but awful for anything else…

A god weekend so far :) A little more color now, but not a great fall foliage year. I hope your weekend is going well :)

Things good- coming back from PA where they had some yellow and splashes of red in trees…. just enough bits of color to feel fall…

I’m back up in NH and there is more yellow, but very little orange or red. Things are staying green, going to yellow, then a quick brown before falling off. Worst autumn I’ve seen here…

That is terrible- hope you get a little in between before they drop!!

There is still a lot of green, so it is possible we’ll get some nice reds yet….

Talk about cold… our apt. was 94 this morning (before sunrise.). We’ve had rolling brown outs all week due to excessive heat. When the power goes, 3rd floor gets hot very very fast! So, it was 94, we walked downstairs, out the door, and the car said it was 42. COLD! I am soooo glad to be outa here in 11 days as of dawn. With everything packed that doesn’t meow, sqwuak or cuss, I’m left with Inktober to keep me busy. I’m sure I’ll sleep again come spring.

Wow, a 50 degree difference. I’m sure you are counting it down till you are gone. I’ve enjoyed your inktober posts, so glad you do have that to keep you out of trouble with all of your non- meowing, squawking and cussing things packed.

I never thought of the perspective from a camera’s view, so true and so beautiful!! Love the Fall weather and the Autumn colors! ♥️

The camera does “see” things vry different from the eye, and a phone camera really distorts reality more than most “normal” lenses on cameras. It can be great for super wide shots, but awful for some things.

A beautiful pictures, although I see what you mean by the picture not doing the size of the trees justice.

Thanks. Yeah, going into this woods is like going into a big building or cathedral, since the canopy is so high above your head, but it just doesn’t show in the photo. I might have a photo someplace with one of the dogs in there for perspective.

How awesome, cooler weather, a lush forest, run on the beach, you got everything ;) Have a fabulous weekend!

Well, the run wasn’t on the sand of the beach… but I did go down later and took off my shoes and took a long walk in the sand. I then went to some nice woods (I had my shoes on!) and – yeah, I was outside walking for three hours :) What can be better? Oh, I’ve been inside for a half of an hour, I need to get back out again ;)
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend :)

It’s an axiom, when forest meets camera, camera always loses. . .
This is why, the forest is always best in person..
Thanks Trent.

Yes, the forest is always much, much better in person, which is why I am lucky this is just outside of my backdoor (when I am in NH).
I hope you are having a great weekend.

I am happy to share that the weather here wasn’t bad this week. We had a few decent temperature days.
The “yellow glow of autumn” sounds so nice. I instantly thought of my trees in the backyard that taken on a deep yellow hue in their preparation for fall and winter. Well, I am off and running myself now. Busy couple of days ahead.
Have a great weekend.
