The Weekly Smile for the 11th of November, 2019

weeklysmile2a

Note 2 – Putting it back to Monday – see if it shows up…

I had a lot to smile about this week, but the big thing was a studio redesign.  I have a small personal music studio up in my home office and I just tore it down and set it back up again.  I guess I do this every 4 years or so: This post from 2015 was the last time I did a major reorganization and in the post before, I wrote about last one in 2011.

I didn’t move any of the heaviest stuff this time, but I did disconnect every cable. I rearranged how instruments are sitting. I added a bunch of tools that I haven’t used in years, some of it it literally hasn’t been used in decades.

Before I reorganized I had to pick which instrument I was going to play. I now have quite a few set up. I also rearranged them, so I have a different work flow, which helps keep a creative edge. Reconnecting things I also made sure that the audio path was better.

This picture shows an in progress view. The keyboard on the left will eventually go above the silver one in the foreground. There are a few other changes.

Here is a quick, down and dirty video of six different synths playing at once. It begins with a low pitch drone that shakes the room but was too low to be picked up by the camera’s mic! Yes, slow solo with left hand ;)

My smile this week was reorganizing my studio.

What made you smile?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small.  Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile!  Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).   Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile.  (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.

You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.

Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

Thanks! It is a lot of fun. I have been adding pieces for over 35 years, so this has been a long time in the making ;) And, as I said, I have taken quite a few pieces out of storage. I am glad you feel good. I’ll come over and take a look at your smile in a minute :)

I do have a blast with it, btu haven’t been spending enough time playing lately. That was one of the reasons for the reorg – with the new set up I will spend more time, particularly with old equipment I haven’t used in a decade or two… I did see the ping back so will be over in a few minutes to check it out :)

I dabble in a bit of everything artistic – For a few years I even took a lot of drawing and painting classes… With music, as far as playing is concerned, a lot of my music is inspired by the electronic music of the 70s but with a modern twist. I studied classical composition for a while and some day want to make electronic realizations of my classical works. I’ll be by to see you smile in a few :)

I had lessons on several instruments as a child, but took piano lessons for the first time about 15 years ago – long after I started playing keyboards. Let’s just say that I will never be a concert pianist ;)
