Nostalgia

Its doors long closed and shuttered, the place of worship was a reminder of a bygone era.

D stood enchanted, staring at the ancient façade, a hint of nostalgia and regret on his face.

“Come on,” Y said. “We’ll be late.  Why did you stop anyway?”

D just shook his head, took one last look at the temple and followed Y to the gleaming glass tower in front of them.

How different the city was in the days of old; the shifting demographics, the people changing like the seasons.

In some ways D wished that there were still humans around.

Thanks for reading my third letter from Spain.
Loved the sheer mystery and creepiness of your piece. Suitable, as I’m at present trying to understand ‘understanding’.. Like most, I find humanity so puzzling. Their stupidly and cruelty are legendary and yet I know so many truly wonderful, kind people. Long may the latter reign. Cheers.

I’m a weird person – when someone reblogs a post, I make sure I read the original before I “like” the reblog ;) I forget who posted it, but I did enjoy the piece.
Thanks. The 100 word Friday Fictioneer stories are always fun. I do them almost stream of conscious. There are so many kind and caring people out there, but it seems to take 10,000 of these people to counteract one truly cruel or vicious person. A struggle humanity has had since the beginning. Hopefully that good side does lead us into the future

I’m not sure who or what D is – a robot/AI? The outcome of genetic engineering? An alien? Or, my favorite, a hyper intelligent cat? As to what happened to humankind, read a newspaper and then look at who D is and there is your answer ;) And D might be nostalgic about the humans, but he read newspapers too, and so…

Cities are changing, as they always have, and the humans have been replaced by robots or genetically modified people or by space aliens or by something “else”.

I have stopped watching and reading it. I’m way happier for it. Get my news from FB – if it’s something I want to learn more about, I go searching (coz, yanno, FB is not the best source…)

I do read the news, but can’t watch. Typically I read BBC so I don’t have to get too much American politics. And that way I know what our Brit friends are talking about when the bring up Brexit ;)

Me? Not me, I’m just a disinterested bystander describing what I see. I’m not saying I’m one thing or another. I am not realyl.. oops. Darn, I made a mistake. I guess since “to err is human”, that means, uhm… lol

Hard to say, but since this is in the near future, one of three things: some type of AI; a product of genetic engineering; or a space alien. I didn’t specify and wasn’t really thinking of any of them, but it seems most thought AI. OK, I think it is a genetic engineered hyper-intelligent cat so the one misses human laps ;)
