If We Were Having Coffee on the 14th of December, 2019

books-n-coffee

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and shake the water off.  Yes, it is pouring.  And it is a cold rain.  Yuck.  But I will get you a steaming hot mug of a very strong dark roast, a cuppa tea, hot cocoa or other warm beverage.  Funny, though, most of our snow is gone!  I have deep, deep piles on my back patio (it is always like freezer back there) and there are large parking lot piles and some in the open areas, but much more has melted in our warm rain earlier this week than I could have imagined when shoveling!  Where are we?  That photo at the top was taken in New Hampshire.

This was a very busy week at work.  Very busy.

I spent a lot of time this week winterizing the house.  Yes, very, very late!  Every year I have to put plastic up over my windows. I once did a post about it.  I was very far behind this year, but did quite a few this week. I have quite a few more to do.

I did more posts this week than usual. Including a photo post (I used to do at least one a month – this was the first for the year!)  And I posted my video again ;)

Anyway, I do have a lot that I want to do on this cold, wet day, so I will be signing off now.

Thanks for stopping by to visit!  If you have a coffee share, I’ll try to stop by!

You can go visit other coffee shares here :)

The current “summer” has been hotter and drier for longer than usual… I think this would qualify as a sort of oppressive heat even the Victoria Falls had alarmingly low levels leading to stories it had dried up, fun times😂😂
But winter would be cool pun not intended 😂😂

It poured all day. If it’s going to rain, I think the 70s is better than the low 40s, like here ;)

Thanks for stopping by for coffee. i hope your weekend is going well and that you have a great week ahead.

Winterizing a house does not sound like fun, but the upside of living in New Hampshire I think would make it all worth while. I stayed with family friends there for a week many years ago and have thought of it often. I recall thinking I could easily get used to such an amazing place.

A newer house, or one that has been modernized and up to spec, isn’t that hard to get ready for the winter, but an old house with 40 very inefficient windows… It is a gorgeous area and like being here, even if I am slowly moving down to Cape Cod…

I hope you have a great weekend.

There is a link to the “Inlikz” page at the bottom of the post on the word “here”.

Oh, thinking of that, I thought I saw a Weekly Smile post of yours that wasn’t linked to the original. I meant to go back and take a look, but got caught doing something else. I’ll go out and find it….

Old houses in cold climates can be a lot of work! And expensive. Things are going well on this rainy Saturday :) I hope you do write a coffee post, but I most likely won’t get a chance to find out until tomorrow…

Yes. With old houses and old windows the cold seeps right in. The plastic helps a lot. I also tape the seams, and that helps even more, as does putting heavy curtains over the north facing windows.

Hope you get through your list of “necessaries”, this weekend. Rain, this far into winter? We’ve gone through that a couple of times, but hopefully not again, because of the ice. Looked back on your post about taping windows. I’m going to bring up the idea of taping the seams before putting the plastic over the windows. Best wishes for the week!

Rain in December is not too unusual, though snow at 60 F last week was highly unusual! It depends on the storm – most come from the south and bring warm air up, but they often rotate so pull cold air down from Canada as they approach. I’ve found the taping helps and I have moved onto duct tape – not quite as good, but much easier to work with and a lot cheaper.

Driving into Cleveland from my parents house there is a huge Duck Tape factory – I laugh when I see it. Duct Tape! ;) I’m sorry, I must have misstated it – we had a total of over 30 inches of snow the week after Thanksgiving, but then we had some 60 degree rainy weather and most of it melted – I have never seen that much snow go away so quick, even after a mid-April three foot storm! It was amazing – three foot of snow on the ground one day, almost nothing the next.
