It is that time of year… When the days become shorter and the nights darker, people seem to come together more. It is a time for the lights to push out the darkness, and a warm, well light house full of people can do that :)
Our local Lions Club had our annual Christmas/Holiday (we are not affiliated with a religion…) party. I am a bit of an introvert (a lot of an Introvert!) and can be downright anti0social, but I still had fun and talked to quite a few people, including some that were guests for the evening.
I think I was a bit festive in my red sweater and red sneakers ;)
And yes, I wore the hat to the party, but hung it with my jacket once there.
My smile for the week was the first of this year’s Christmas/Holidays party.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small. Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile! Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).
Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.
You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.
Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

Hi Trent – I too have to work myself up to do festive with lots of people. Give me just a few and I stand a better chance at having a good time. Anyway, I had an unexpected smile this week with my writing. I’ve carried a story around for some time and suddenly it came together in a way I thought some readers would like and was very pleasantly surprised at how well it was received. One of my long time readers declared it one of my 2 best stories and I know her well enough that she does not say such things unless she really means it – so I had to admit that it came out better than I expected and, yea, it made me smile. I’d like to share it for any thoughts from your readers. Hope you enjoy it too.

Being a tech nerd and introvert doesn’t always go well at parties ;) I will come over and check out your story in a few minutes.

You look so festive, I love your photo! I too do not really like party’s much and when I am invited I have what I call “the dreadits” I really dread getting ready, dread traveling there and dread even more if I will fit in, or stand out? did I wear the right thing? or what will one say to me where I may feel stupid? Haha, even though I may dread the whole affair, I have attended some really fun holiday party’s. I can’t say I remember when though…. I have gone to work party’s but it is just dinner at a restaurant and well, that’s fairly easy even if “dread” pokes out its ugly head. I am much happier staying home – I’m terrible and being terribly honest!! :D
Here is my weekly share! Thank you so much!!

I get it. I’m pretty reclusive. If I do go to parties, I usually end up sitting in a corner just people watching. But sometimes, with the right people, I have a great time.

I love to see people get into the festive spirit! I have so much red in my closet and it’s all worn withing a couple of weeks in December! Have a Merry Christmas, Trent! I have many reasons to smile this week and wrote about it here: http://thegistjournal.com/2019/12/18/merry-christmas-a-few-thoughts-and-my-reasons-to-be-thankful-this-holiday/

I do wear a lot of red in the autumn and winter, but that sweater is a tad bit over the top is usually only makes a few rare appearances after Christmas… Have a great week and a Merry Christmas :)

Yes sir – festive indeed!
And like that opening paragraph – especially this – “It is a time for the lights to push out the darkness, and a warm, well light house full of people can do that “

Thanks, I felt festive ;)
“Light” plays an important part in many religions this time of year, which I was reminded of with the big St. Lucia festival of lights in Scandinavia last Friday.

Yeah the festive season gets rather exhaustive people insisting you come for dinner and endless small talk which is mostly other asking invasive questions which you turn into jokes and hope question was forgotten 😂😂 and by you I mean I

Some years are like that, but these days I’m a bit more of a recluse and only go out a handful of times, so not as bad. I rarely leave home without the hat, winter or summer. The sweater is, uhm, festive ;)

Those can be really festive – especially when a group of like-minded people are able to chat and spend some time together.

You do look dapper in your red Christmas sweater. I love hats so yours is outstanding.
I’m happy you enjoyed the Christmas festivities. I usually have to be coaxed by my hubby. When we do go I’m always happy I did. It can be difficult to be among so many personalities. But, such is life.
Well, I don’t have a smiling joke for today. I do have a Christmas memory that always put a smile on my face. Happy Monday …. Merry Merry Isadora 😎

Thanks, Isadora. I can be very reclusive, yet am usually glad when I am pulled out of the house…
Anything that made you smile is game for The Weekly Smile, so I will go ahead and say this is your smile for the week :) (I’ll be by to read in a few).

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. I understand what it is like to be extremely introvert, but there are small social gatherings that I don’t mind at all.
I’ll be posting my weekly smile shortly.

The good thing about a Lions’ party is that I know all of the people ;) They are also small. I’ll be looking forward to your post :)

In all honesty, I’m finding reality a hard world for smiling. But we did watch an oldish (1995) movie with everyone who was anybody in Hollywood (starring Sean Connery in one of his final roles) in what was definitely a remake of “Cape Fear” (both versions). In the end, the bad guy got eaten by an alligator. THAT made me smile!

The movie is on Netflix – “Just Cause.”

I remember this movie… I watched it when I was like 13 years old and it scared the pants of me but I watched it to the end and it had quite the plot twist!!!!

I saw a shirt “Asteroid 2020” and that is how I sometimes feel – just wipe us off the planet and let the next species in the chain come up and have their turn – we obviously blew it. The news can be super depressing. But, I’m not quite willing to call it day yet. Curious, what was the movie you saw? Can’t think of many Sean Connery movies from that time period off of the top of my head. I just watched the Charlie Brown Christmas for the first time in years and smiled there ;)

The black hat matches the dark colors in your red sweater. I don’t look forward to parties either, but am often glad that I went to them.

I’m the type that often hides in a back corner… That is one good thing about a dinner party is that unless I am seated next to someone as extroverted as I am introverted, I can usually be pretty social when seated at a table. I’ll be by to see your smile in a few minutes :)
