The Weekly Smile for the Tenth of February, 2020 #weeklysmile

Last week was a pretty good week.  I felt well all week and things all seemed to go how they were supposed to.  But was there something special for a weekly smile?

I seem to repeat that last paragraph all of the time.  I feel like an echo.  Hey, echo!  That’s it.

(And since this is an echo, some may realize that I posted about this on Tuesday)

Last week I picked up a guitar pedal  that’s a digital recreation of a tape echo.  No I don’t play guitar, but I do play synthesizer. Real quick, an echo repeats sounds that were played into them.  Tape echos were hugely popular in the late 60s, and the 70s, particularly with the prog rock crowd.  You can read all about it here

After playing for a few minutes I did a short video on my phone.  One thing to remember, the synthesizer I am playing makes one sound at a time, so all of that sound you hear are echos. (Don’t take this too seriously – it was for fun!)

(If you don’t see the video below, please click here)

Hope you enjoyed this smile :)

My smile this week was making some funny, spacey sounds with a recreation tape echo.

What made you smile?

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small.  Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile!  Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).   Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile.  (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.

You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.

Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)

Being creative, even if it is something silly like this, is a type of food for the soul :) It always makes me smile, at least until I go back later and place judgement on the outcome ;)

Well, today Garry was officially made a member of the Board of Directors for which is a non-profit Worcester-based “radio” (but you can’t get it on normal radio). If you are vision deprived — blind or in some other way disabled and reading is hard for you, they will give you a special radio tuned to their station and if that doesn’t work, they will give you an Echo Dot. I’m very pleased for him. There’s no money in it, but it’s in his wheelhouse and I think he will enjoy being involved as long as they don’t have too many meetings. I think he’s happy, too, albeit a confused about exactly what he can do for them. He has always been “talent” and now, suddenly, he’s a “suit,” even though he doesn’t have to wear one.

    Have a great week!

That sounds like a great organization. Great Garry can do it. I’m sure being a “suit” will be fine ;) Thinking of sight impaired, this year I’m president of our local Lion’s Club. Although we just do stuff around town, vision is the Lions big thing. Today I am going to give another member a few hundred old pairs of glasses I’ve collected so she can take send them out to be “processed” and hopefully reused by someone who can’t afford glasses. (also today I am voting ;) )
      Have a great week!

I just worded it wrong :) There are things called “guitar pedals” that guitarists use to change the sound of their guitars. It’s a huge industry and there are thousands of pedals out there. Keyboardists are often expected to be “grown up” and use rack mounted effects that are often super expensive. They sit in rack within easy reach instead of on the floor. But some times we like to use the cheap and gnarly “guitar pedals” ;) Not that this was cheap…

I’ll stop by in a few minutes to see your smile :)

Well this blog post and your video brought a smile to my face! I enjoyed the playful curiosity that your recording shows.
This week: A smile was brought to my face when George (my fiance), arrived home after work with an improtu suprise of favourite treats (chocolate buttons, doritos and a little prosecco bottle).

Thanks, Charlotte. I do love exploring different sonic territory, even if it is not super “musical”. Of course, the goal is to eventually take lessons learned from experimentation and create something a little better ;)

I’m not the biggest on Doritos, but the rest of the treats sound great, and, coming from your fiance, worthy of a huge smile :)
