Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a mug of super strong Dark Roast, a cuppa tea or a hot cocoa.  It is still a little cool out, but it will get pretty warm later today.  OK, warm is a relative term – it will be around 45 F/ 7 C.  But the sun is shining and it is absolutely gorgeous outside!  And where are we?  Some may recognize that Edward Gorey mug as being only a few miles from the Edward Gorey House on Cape Cod.

Two quick things.  First, although I was planning on using a photo of the mug anyway, I decided that I will connect it to Chelsea Owens’ Terrible Poetry Contest winner for this week.  This week as full of morbid, little Willie poems and someone compared them to our fried Edward.

Next, if you are observant you may recognize that this is the third week in a row I have been on Cape Cod.  I had a reason to be here, but things happened, and… Anyway, since I had it penciled in on my calendar (really – I am a computer nerd but use a paper calendar and really do pencil things in…) I decided to come.  It’s been nice :)  In ways I enjoy being here in the winter more than the summer when I have to share the road with a million people…

Work was busy, but a very short week (Monday and Friday off).  I got a hair cut.  I played with puppies.  I went running.  I did my weight exercise.  I walked in the woods.  I walked on the beach

I played musical instruments.  I did work around the house on the Cape.  I patted cats.

I shoveled snow that turned to slush and then froze…  Yuck. I drove home from the Cape on Sunday and back down on Wednesday.   When all is said and done, I will have had at least a foot on Cape Cod for 15 days this month.

Anyway, I have a very full agenda and so I need to get up.  If you have a coffee share, I will try to stop by, but no promises – I tried last week and failed…

    Quick question aren’t you suppose to just sprinkle salt and the snow disappears, something about melting points… Didn’t pay attention during chemistry class ha!
    Hey what if you connect up a leaf blower.

      Salt is used, but not quite like that…. The majority of the snow needs to be removed. Shovels, snow blowers, plows, etc. are all used. In towns and cities they use front end loaders to fill dump trucks and take it away! After that, salt can be used to control the ice (a bit). It is very often used on roads after they’ve been plowed. It does lower the melting temperature of ice, but won’t really work when it is too cold… Salt is also bad for the environment and hurts puppy’s paws… Sand is also used, which will help give cars (or feet) traction. The sand also heats up in the sun and helps melt ice, but not as much as salt. I typically use sand, but didn’t get any this year. Even with salt and/or sand, you still often have to chip the ice off – if ti is really cold, it might help, but won’t take it away. Yesterday I had a thick coating of ice on my driveway and spent a few hours chipping it off…

          I know Australia had a hot summer, so glad it is cooling down. The weekend was nice – very sunny and “warm” (for this part of the world in February), so I was outside quite a bit.

    7c that’s cold enough, here in Aus its been 35c raining & sticky humid technology never ceases to amaze me(I can read about your world from my little world). We still pencil everything on our calendar hanging on the fridge. Your photos are beautiful. Its nice to do little bit of eveyhting you enjoy. Great coffee, Thankyou.

      It is funny – we had a lot of snow in December and now a snow storm every week of February, but January, when we usually get snow, was completely snow-free… Playing with the dogs keeps me young ;) Hope your weekend is going well :)

      I have been having a good time besides shoveling snow in a torrential downpour (it was raining super hard). It is a great beach, but not my favorite – Chapin, which is a fifteen minute car ride, has a wilder feel. This one is closer (2 minute car ride) and has beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

    Pretty Kitty and love the sunset. I hear you with being busy! YIKES! And then you traveling week to week makes it busier I think! I hope the weather decides what it’s doing. Enjoy your weekend!! 😃

      One reason I like being on cape Cod – there is no snow ;) I’d gladly get rid of what we have in New Hampshire…. Hope your weekend is going well and and that you have a great week ahead :)
