As with most of you, it has been an odd last few weeks! For this, I decided to do another, “It’s the Small Things” post.
I made another large crock-pot of chili this week. It came out really good! I made a few mistakes (no corn), but who cares? I froze a little over two thirds of it. I’ll pull some out a little at a time, but will make sure there is some in case i can’t leave the house at all for extended periods…
It has been a wet April. Of course, this is the area that came up with the phrase “April Showers” ;) But we are seeing some flowers. And green grass. And buds on the trees. I’ve been hearing the “spring peepers” (frogs) for a few weeks now. We have had a few nice days. And the snow on my back patio is finally completely gone! So I have been experiencing (early) spring in all of it’s glory :)
As to the back patio, it collected leaves over the winter and so I raked it out. i got more than I did in the fall! But it now looks great and is usable – I have sat outside, even though it is cool…
I started doing a Teaching Company course on Physics. Yeah, it is algebra based, instead of calculus based (and obviously no differential equations!), so super simple, but still, a 60 lecture course to help my mind remember some of it.
I just ordered the last Star Wars movie. So I am not watching it cold, I have begun to go through the entire series, starting with Episode 1. In context, “The Phantom Menace” is not quite as bad as it seemed at the time ;) It is a huge commitment in time, but I am enjoying it.
Of course there are the every day things – the cat in my lap, the dogs playing, long walks, running, online chats, etc. Even work, which I am thankful i have, creates some smiles.
It is the small every day things, the material that makes up our lives, that we occasionally need to focus on. Can we be truly happy if only the big or grand make us smile? Life, and all that it brings, needs to be remembered and celebrated. The small things.
That is my smile for the week, all of the small things that make up my life.
What made you smile?
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
And remember, the Smile can be anything, large or small. Nothing, nothing at all is too small for a Smile! Sometimes taking time to notice those small, every day smiles is more important than those once in a lifetime huge ones :)
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).
Try to use the hashtag #WeeklySmile when you use Twitter or other social media that uses hashtags. I searched Twitter and found that #weeklysmile had been used only a handful of times back in 2012 and 2013. It hasn’t been used since. So it’s ours! I also registered it on Twubs.
You can use the graphic at the top. It is the official graphic for the event.
Now go out there and find something to smile about! :)
