If We Were Having Coffee on the 18th of April, 2020

back-yard-early-spring

Hello and Welcome.  Hold on, I’m going to grab a few dry cushions to sit on as the chairs are wet.  Ignore that white stuff coming out of the sky as I get you a nice large mug of ultra-strong dark roast,a cuppa tea, a hot cocoa or other beverage.  Yeah, that white stuff is only sticking to the roof of cars and other surfaces like that, but it shouldn’t be too bad out here as we sip our coffee and chat.  Oh, where are we?  You may be able to tell from the (newish) photo that we are in New Hampshire this morning, sitting at this very table!  Yeah, I know, it is now covered in white, but…

This was the second day this week that there was snow in the morning.  I think it was Tuesday (Monday?) that there was actually a covering, even on the roads, but it had all melted by noon.  We had one or two warm days last week, but a little cooler than normal.  It looks much the same this week.  Odd – we had a much more mild winter than normal (“warmer” and far less snow) but the spring is cooler and wetter than usual.  The seasons are just wonky…

The theme of this week is work.  After the 28th day of work this week, which was Thursday, the same question was brought up during three different meetings – With most of the world not working, why are we so, so much busier than usual?  Everything is very top priority/emergency and needs to be done NOW and there is much, much more of it than I have ever seen.  Every day seems like a week (why I said the first four days = 28 normal days).  Yes, I am very thankful to be working, and I am getting a lot accomplished, but, wow, if this continues I will be burnt out before June.

If you read my Smile post of Monday, you may know some other things I have been doing.  I have started a Physics course.  It is the Teaching Company.  It is not Calculus based, so very frustrating in ways since it can only scratch the surface on even the simplest subjects.  I need to find a good, in-depth Physics course that is not only Calculus based, but assumes the student understands Differential Equations.  In my adult life I have discovered that even the easiest concepts are made so much clearer when Diff-E-Qs are used.

OK, so I’m a nerd.

And to prove my nerd-creds, you may have also read that I am watching the Star Wars movies in order.  I do not have time to binge watch, so I am taking two days each for the movies, so I am only up to The Empire Strikes Back.  The entire reason for this is I just picked up a Blu-ray for The Rise of Skywalker and want to see it in context.  OK, there were some finger prints on A New Hope so the sound dropped out for two or three minutes before I cleaned it – I was able to speak all of the parts exact, to the letter, so maybe I don’t need the refresher ;)

I did more running around this week than I have in the last month combined.  I went to the grocery story, the Post Office twice (I have a PO Box), the pet food store, a beer store (I ran out of local craft beers a month ago and do not drink big national brands (or international) .ever. – I picked up one 4-pack….) and picked up a to-go pizza.

With dog walking, running, exercise and normal things like eating, that did not leave much time for anything else – I blogged less this week than normal.  OK, most of the ultra-business was because of work…

I did post this video, though:

(Click here if you do not see the video below)

Anyway, I should get up and do some stuff – it is time for a dog walk, and I may record some music today.

Thanks for stopping by!  If you have a coffee post, I will try to stop in and read, but I can’t promise – I really haven’t been getting to many over the last few weeks :(

The coffee share is hosted over on Eclectic Alli.  The link to join is here.

I had a friend who used to be able to do the Greedo section of a new hope! Empire has got to be the best and I love putting in the extra effort for a sequel. We were working through the Daniel Craig bond films in prep for the latest release.

I did not learn any of the alien language parts, but it was the scenes right before that that I was quoting…. I agree that those were the best two, and of the movies past the original series, Rogue One, which had the vibe of the originals, was the best. I haven’t kept up with Bond. I think Skyfall was the last one I saw. I know Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Sean Connery, but they just haven’t risen to the top of my to be viewed list.

I agree that the weather this year has certainly been “wonky” but I am sure glad that we are not still getting snow down here! Today we reached 60 degrees but I would be happier if we got to 70. I am very much a summer girl and I need sun!! Right up front I should tell you that math makes my brain hurt and the only “F” I ever received in school was in algebra. I was an art major so I did like geometry the most since it was so visual. Because of my lack of number skills, I have great respect for those who do understand them so best of luck in your class. Have a great week.

We did reach the low 60s yesterday, and it was 35 while it was snowing. It stayed below freezing in the hills around us, so some snow stuck there. I majored in Mathematics in college, so obviously have a bit of a knack for it. As to number skills, the funny thing is that at some point Math is no longer about numbers… As kid, even a college student, I was awful at arithmetic.

I hope you had a great weekend and that your week ahead goes well :)

Thanks for the excellent coffee! At first when I saw the opening photo I thought “Oh there’s no snow now.” Then I read that there was some sticky white stuff. We had some earlier this week, and hail three days, but it didn’t stick here either. Next week is going to be warm, I like it, warm but not hot :) I’m fine with spring weather for a long time :) Enjoy the last hours of the weekend!

It’s funny, yesterday was warm (60s), but there was still snow on the ground in the hills around my house! Seeing photos from Saturday, they received about 3 inches just a couple of miles from me! Yeah, it’s all gone now, but, wow, amazing that there was that much snow so late (We once had a major snow storm in late May! It was during a large outdoor festival – they moved the festival to the end of June the following year ;) ).

I hope you had a great weekend and have a wonderful week ahead!

    I like your opening picture.

I love Star Wars. For Friday Night Movie night a couple weeks ago we watch “Solo” for the first time. Loved it. I was trying to convince the family that we should go through the series but I seem to be he only one really in love with it. My youngest son enjoys them but not enough that I get his vote. Anyway, hope you have a great week.

I have not seen Solo yet. I did love Rogue One, but the reviews for Solo weren’t as good. Someday I will break down and see it. I also now have The Rise of Skywalker waiting for me to finish the rest of the series… Watching them in order is the best way. You’ll just have to put the movies on and see who joins you.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

It was a very busy week. Funny, our Saturday snow didn’t last long, but I went hiking just a few miles from home yesterday morning. It was warm, but the hills were still covered in snow! But this morning is as springlike as you can get…
I hope you had a great weekend and have a wonderful week ahead :)

In ways the over abundance of work isn’t bad, I just wish new things wouldn’t keep coming so we can finish some of the old projects ;) Been really enjoying the Star Wars! Thanks, re the video! I hope you had a great weekend!

Oh my crickey I had to answer a simple maths question to get onto a web site the other day, I had to use my fingers to count. Gold stars for your nerdiness. Best brew I’ve had is from a little distillery in the next town, the darker the better. Cant wait til it opens again. I love star wars, I remember seeing the very first one when I was about 9yrs old with family friends in the old valiant wagon at a drive in movie theatre. Have a great rest of the weekend.

Yeah, my degree is in Mathematics, so… I sometimes go for the darker beers, but I am boring an go for the IPAs. Funny, when I started to drink IPA, nobody had ever heard of it, but these days it is the most popular, at least for small micro-brews. It is funny, the beer store is essential, but I guess breweries aren’t – the shelves were almost empty. I was just a little older than you when I first saw Star Wars. I loved it and found ways to see it over and over again, which meant finding someone to drive…. Hope you had a great weekend.

Yes, we do both need a nice beer. As is said, i ran out a month ago, so I don’t drink a lot, but I like having it available for when I want one… I’ve been off line for a day and a half, so I will be by later to catch up.

The trillium, white or dark red, are beautiful flowers. Are they in bloom there yet? The little red ones we have here started blooming this week. As to work, there’s not a lot I can do when the Department of Homeland Security contacts us that there is new vulnerability on 50 servers that need to be remediated in 30 calendar days or the servers will be shut down… ;) Yeah, that is the type of thing popping up.

I like the slide show and your music. Beautiful pictures! The waltz, oddly, recalls memories of the traveling-carnival merry-go-rounds of my childhood, the ponies going up and down. Best wishes for you with the increased work load. Your surroundings should lend themselves to long walks, weather permitting. I think we’re *finally* out of the frost-and-snow routine here. This has been such a long and lingering winter. ::sigh::

Thanks. The image that comes to my mind with the music is a field of flowers, which is why I chose a lot of the flower photos, but I decided to alternate them with peaceful water pictures. I’m hoping this is the end of the snow! It was 35 F as it snowed, which is why it wasn’t sticking to the roads, but still, yuck.

      Have a great week!

Well that was fun! Found myself nodding my head in time to your waltz..and loved the images! I have not seen a red trillium like that out in the wild yet. Saw a green striped one once, but otherwise only white, which turn to pink when they get old. Yours didn’t seem to be old! Also loved the ripply sand and the red fishing boat. So many I loved! Anyway, I hope work settles down for you, I imagine it IS frustrating to think so many people are off and you’re swamped.

Glad you enjoyed the music! Yes, in Ohio I only knew the white trillium. Here they are dark red – I saw some this week and need to go out and take pictures. They are also smaller than the white ones. The boat is Bar Harbor in Maine. As to work, I think all of the biggest bosses are using this bit of a slowdown to try to get all of the stuff done that has been piling up for years ;) Actually, a lot of what I have been doing is part of projects that have been going on for months, just new priories and such…

I hope you have a great week!
