End?
Well, no
Beginning!
Transformation
We are progressing
Moving to the next phase
Will it be that much better?
Will this new world help everyone?
Or will the powerful gain all?
Can we pull together to make it work?
The song right now seems to be in discord
Dissonant factions play selfish tunes
But there is cooperation
Folk pushing positive change
Helping hands reaching out
Voices in accord
Working as one
Compassion
People
Hope

This was written for Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge. This week the words were transition and harmony but, as always, only synonyms are allowed. I chose to do a double ethree.
I don’t like to touch on politics. Hmm. I have twice now deleted a long paragraph about all of the hate and selfishness I have been seeing lately – far more than I have at any time in my life. It is a scary time, but more because of people than because of any virus. I have to concentrate on those who are helping. I have to try to support them. Do what I can. I think the majority of people do, even if the haters scream the loudest. Hopefully we, those who think society – people, all of us – is more important than any selfish short term gain, that we will help bring about positive change :)
New beginning… Hope. Sounds good and yet so faraway…

Hopefully not that far, but I am not holding my breath

Wonderful Trent – the words and the shape of the words. Mightyly impressed.

Thanks. I think the shape of the double etheree works great for subjects like this.

I didn’t know there was a name … double etheree or triple, or reversed, and had to look it up. So learnt something new, thank you Trent!

Yeah, that is one reason I like Colleen’s challenges, it makes em learn some of this stuff

Hi T
Love the photo and the gas cards sound great!
Also – the poem was twice delightful – the words and then the shape – I really like visual layouts of words and my mind is on overload this week (ending a lot of reading and misc) so this poem was truly a fresh and fun read
And then your message of pulling together was nice

Thanks, Y. I do like using the double etheree, though I don’t always center them, so not always diamond shape. And we all do need to pull together as a team. I have seen some polling that most people agree, people of all political persuasions. Those who disagree just shout the loudest…

Lovely poem, Trent. I’m hoping that we can come out of this as better humans than we went into it. Great picture too.

Thanks, Diana. I do hope we can come out as a more caring society.
If you didn’t see my “Smile” post yesterday, our Lions Club (I’m president of our local club this year) donated gas cards to a local grass roots organization to give to all of the caregivers in town, from doctors and nurses to assistants and even janitors, they just have to work in a hospital, clinic, doctor’s office, nursing home, etc. We’ve also been giving this group gift certificates to local restaurants to give several families that are going through hard times. The photo is me and another Lions’ member, Deb, with the first batch of gas cards.

That’s so wonderful of the club, Trent. We have an active Lions Club here too, despite being a dinky town. Those gifts are meaningful, far beyond the dollars. :-D

Our club is very small and we even thought about disbanding – I’m glad we didn’t! The gifts are meaningful :)

Excellent double Etheree and I love your shared thoughts. The ugliness of people absolutely drives me insane. The virus is not political! It affects all of us. Thanks for all your hard work, Trent. <3

Thanks, Colleen, I’m glad you liked it :) No, it should not be a political thing at all, but for some odd reason, some people have turned it into one. And not all of the people I know who differ from me politically are out there spreading anger and hate, some are very sensitive and are doing their bit, it is just the ones who are screaming in anger are very, very obnoxious about it….

I agree and that makes everything so much more terrifying. Live long and prosper… that’s going to be my new saying from star trek. LOL!

I like the star trek saying… Years ago I participated in a monthly compassion challeneg on the blog and eneded all of my posts with a paragraph that said, in part “We are all in this together, in a closed system, so we must all help each other. How lonely life must be for those selfish people who don’t realize this simple truth!” I think I need to dig that paragraph up and start using it again…

Yes! Star Trek had so many truths that we need now. Do it, Trent. I love it.

Gene Roddenberry had a great optimistic view of the future. A lot of the Star Wars movies have a very positive message as well, though it is more hidden and often the action takes front and center.

Correct. I fell in love with the sci fi genre in high school. Still love it!

Love the poem! I try not to get political (or preachy) as well, but I’ve had to delete a few ‘rant’ type posts lately myself. Funny how some people use a bad situation to show their best, and others reveal their worst. It’s hard not to add to the negativity by calling people out on their poor behavior, but I figure it’s healthier to focus on the things I can control, like my own efforts.

Thanks. Yes, it is so odd how different some people react. And you are right, it is much better to dwell on things we can do than on other’s poor behavior (or words).

Love the diamond ‘double ethree’ not heard of that before.
Liking your matching face mask too.

Thanks – I do like working with the double etheree.
Yes, hopefully those of use how share our gifts, from working with different groups, to encouraging people to singing beautiful songs from our balconies, will be the ones who set the tone for the future, not those who can only understand a very narrow self-interest.
A friend made the mask :) Of course I had to wear a matching shirt ;)
