June already?  Wow.  Anyway, this was a tough week for all.  But there were some smiles out there, if we looked for them.

After a cold, wet spring (we had snow two weeks ago!), warm, summer like weather finally hit.  Yes, it was a bit uncomfortable, but it was nice.  Not only did it feel more like summer it looked a little ore like summer.  Here is a photo from my back yard.

And with all of the bad things going on, there was some good: Americans are back in the business of putting people into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) again.  When I say “business”, this time it is a business.  And soon, another company, Boeing, will join SpaceX with commercial manned space flight.  And NASA will soon have a new system for going beyond LEO, perhaps reaching the Moon in the next five years.

We have entered a new era of space travel.

I did watch a little bit of it live on the NASA Youtube channel, but I cheated and rewound it to watch the launch and later the docking without having to be glued to my chair when these events were happening live.  Very cool.

So I had two smiles this week, warm weather finally arriving in New England and America’s return to manned space flight.

    Love the wooded forest picture. What upsets me is our country has been devastated by COVID 19 the death toll, people losing their jobs and the unemployment rate skyrocketing, businesses having to close. Then the next disaster happens it makes me sick. I am smiling over all our cucumbers we are eating and the pickles we are making. Along with that, I am trying to come up with lots of different ways to eat squash lol. The tomatoes we eat them every day but we will make some salsa and some sauce for my Italian dishes. I am grateful for our garden it makes me smile.

      New Hampshire is a pretty state and very different from Texas… The last week or so has been tough. This year we don’t have our tiny veritable garden, but we received our first delivery from our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture – you buy “shares” of the crop every year and get food in return – farm fresh, organic, local grown.) Glad your garden is making you smile :)

          The CSAs are commercial agriculture, though small family farms and usually organic, but we do have a community garden in our town. Anyone can sign up and get a plot, though I think there is a waiting list now. It is small, less than an acre. I think about 15 small plots in that acre – so no corn, but plenty of greens, etc. I often go up and talk to people as they tend their gardens.

            I like raised gardens because they do not grow weeds lol. Jack plants in pots, greenhouse, raised gardens on the ground, raised garden much taller, and a regular on the ground garden. I can tell you a few things we have learned by planting greens ( swiss chard, mustard greens, turnip greens) etc. in pots you do not have to spend a lot of time washing off the dirt.

      One thing I love about the east coast is how green it is :) Getting back into the business of man space flight is great. I’ll be by in a few minutes to check out your smile :)

      It is nice for summer to have finally arrived! yeah, I laughed when I heard the name of the ship that “catches” the first stage – “Of Course I Still Love you” – how appropriate :) I’ll be by in a few to check out your smile :)

    A new era of space travel – beam me up Scottie :) I meant to follow it on the news and completey forgot!
    I had a lot to smile about last week – hubby agreed to build me a three section composter – he knows better than to woo me with diamonds and roses. I also sarted a new porject of photographing as many wild flowers as I can find in my local area.

      Not quite to the beam me up stage, unfortunately. I’d love a transporter… I also need a composter and need to build on some day. I’m not sure if my wife would like it better than diamond or not, though. The wildflower shots sounds like a great project.

    Trent, I was transfixed to both the launch and docking, even though that part was a bit slow.The anticipation of watching those guys come through the door with an American flag above their heads was worth the wait. Maybe this is a naive question, but why did the major networks not cover this? Is is because we live in a digital age, with lots of viewing alternatives, or was it just not deemed important enough? I loved viewing the live broadcast from NASA, but I also remember when launches brought the world to a stand still in front of their living room TV set. Sign of the times, I guess. I had a good week but everything got kind of overshadowed by ugliness. Will join in next time.

      I think, but am not sure, that the big news networks at least showed the launch live. I think it’s just that it is old hat now. There have been hundreds of space missions, so… I’m hoping that when we go back to the Moon that the coverage is better!

      I understand, it has been a tough week. Looking forward to next week :)

    The launch was very cool. I missed the docking, but I’m sure I can find it online. I hope this next week is better, and that the truth comes out about what is happening with the violence in so many cities…and that justice moves closer for the family of George Floyd,

      I’m sure you can find the docking on line. It was pretty cool, but also, in ways, boring – not much is happening ;)

      I agree, I do hope there are some resolutions to our current problems. I typically put up as little political on my Facebook as I do here, but I just shared a post from Barack Obama on my FB – he has a great voice of reason that, truthfully, I miss…

      I think we as a nation, and most likely the world, needed something to smile about, so, yeah, it was very good timing on NASA and SpaceX’s part, even if it happened over the weekend because of bad weather during the week…
