If We Were Havign Coffee on the First of Summer, 2020 ;)

Coffee on Cape Cod

Hello and Welcome! Let’s go out and sit down in the shade in the back yard.  There is a nice breeze.  I think it is fragrant, but you may get a bit too much of the saltwater marsh smell there ;)  It is warm and sunny, a beautiful start to summer!  And where are we?  Some of you may recognize the scene in the photo at the top as being on Cape Cod.

I drove down here Thursday night.  I had to work yesterday, but went kayaking after I was done.  I went running by the beach this morning.  It was already warm and humid.  I have a million things I want to do today, and am not sure where I will start.  OK, I will start with this post ;)

This was a very busy week.  For instance, I had 5 meetings scheduled on Thursday and spent a lot of time in unplanned little “meetings”.  I did get a few things wrapped up, which is always good.

I had my typical exercizing and running.  I did a slightly longer version of my new run on Sunday, stretching it to about 6 miles (10 km).  And yes, adding a few hills onto an already hilly run ;)  I plateaued in my running and strength exercises a couple of years ago, so it is good to start pushing the boundary again. There was also dog play, music play, reading, etc.  Blog reading and writing was a little slower, and may slow even farther this week….

And now I have a beautiful, sunny first day of summer ahead of me :)

Anyway, I have to go do stuff :)  Thanks for stopping by!  If you have a coffee share, I will try to stop by.  No promises, as usual.

The coffee share is hosted over on Eclectic Alli.  The link to join is here.

It is a very relaxing place. It can get crowded in the area, but our little hidden place is perfect. After heat and fires, I’m sure you are ready for some cool weather! Have a good week :)

I do believe it is cooler here, Trent. I live on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by water so the water has a cooling effect. It is humid in summer, but it is generally very humid here anyway – it is in a sub tropical region. The benefit of living here as opposed to the city is that you always have an onshore sea breeze from 11 am each day. That cools the afternoon somewhat. Our temperatures often reach 100 in summer, but here they only feel like 95 – that can make a difference – believe it or not. That is one reason why we moved here with a view to retirement. We used to come up this way at weekends to get some relief from the oppressive heat and humidity in the city areas. I am still employed but most likely retiring very soon, pushed a little early due to Covid.
So your mountain home is in the city?

Currently my home is in New Hampshire, about 20 minutes out of two small cities and maybe an hora and half from Boston. We are at the edge of mountainous territory (New England mountains). It gets very cold in the winter (weeks at a time below freezing and temps below zero F are common) and there is often a huge amount of snow. It has been in the 90s there for over a week. My retirement home is going to be on Cape Cod. We are about 30 miles out from the Mainland and our house is almost surrounded by water. It is typically 10 to 20 degrees warmer in the winter, sometimes more (30 or 40), but 10 to 20 degrees color in the summer – it’s been in the 70s this last week, topping off in the low 80s a couple of times. There are befits to both places, both weather and, of course, the difference between beach and mountain, but I don’t want to have to worry about the snow and cold when I am retired. I am eligible to retire, but most likely will work 3 to 6 more years.

Beautiful area there. While I was married we lived on a lake and it was gorgeous and at the time I was physically able to run and I would run through the trails surrounding our house and the lake. Many a day I miss that time. They keep telling me that I can do that again or at least in moderation. I am struggling to walk without a lot of pain, I have a hard time imagining running again and in such a beautiful area. There’s that negativity creeping in. This month I am doing physical therapy and that has been some intense pain, but I keep it up. I definitely have 2 days left, maybe six depending on my evaluation.

It is a beautiful area around here. Sounds like you used to live in a beautiful area as well. As to running, yeah, I think you need to figure out how to lower the pain for walking first. A lot of people don’t nee much more than that good walk. Hope your weekend went well and that you have a good week.

Thanks Trent! It was beautiful there. I used to love to run which is weird since I am not an outdoor person or one into physical fitness, but for some reason I loved running. Of course the area helped I am sure.

I keep hearig that although in my experience it was the running that produced those feelings. I find exercise, even walking boring and do not feel good about it. I do not know if it is the current state of my body and all the pain that override those feelings.

Yep, I had a good start to the summer. We had a string of days in the low 30s (90+) in New Hampshire, but it’s been a little cooler here, though more humid (problem with the ocean). Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

I hope you have been having a great weekend!

I can find a way to slip out for at least a little on most days, which helps. I also start work early, so am done early, giving me a couple of nice afternoon hours before I have to get ready for dinner. Thanks, and thanks for stopping by! Hope you had a great weekend.

It is pretty difficult to cope with it, though, a little more seriously, I would like to turn the clock back a week to 72 days and 48 nights – perfection! Hot and humid with warm nights? Yuck.
Hope you are having a good weekend.
