Hello and Welcome! Come on over and sit down. I will get a towel or something to put on the seat. It isn’t raining anymore, but it has been, so everything is soaked. But the view is lovely! It is warm and will get hot, and being super humid, will feel hotter. Were are we? Some of you may recognize that photo as being from New Hampshire (aka NH).
Work was busy, but not awful. No emergencies and fewer than usual meetings. I am still in the middle of several huge projects, so staying busy. And people are still reaching out to me for things that aren’t really mine, so busy there as well… (It’s what I get for being so darn good ;) Perhaps a good reputation is worse than a bad one..). Anyway, a bit more seriously, it was busy,as it always is, but not bad.
The weather here has been hot and humid. It is not totally out of bounds for early July. In fact, traditionally, this is when the really hot weather starts, so the warmer June was the unusual part, not the heat now. It was also very humid and we had some rain, including one of the most intense little thunderstorms I’ve seen in NH.
One bad part about the heat is air conditioning. I don’t believe in air conditioning for healthy people up in NH. There are maybe a handful of days when it is really needed, and soaking your feet in cold water does wonders. But my office gets unbearably hot. And when it is super humid? Several yeas ago I was sitting in the office, just miserable (I’ll spare you the details ;) ). It was “only” about 90 F/32 C out, though it was super high humidity. I brought a thermometer into the room. It topped off at over 110 F/43 C and still that 100% humidity.
I bought an air conditioner for my office that day.
The problem is, the room gets all of its fresh air from one window. Once an air conditioner is in that window, it needs to run constantly and continuously. Even when it is about 80 F/27 C outside, it will be 90 + in the office if the air is off but plugging the window. So it has to run continuously, which I competently and totally hate. I can’t concentrate with all of the noise! I hate the feel of air from the air conditioner, but it is better than the hot, clammy air my office generates without it.
This week I had to put the AC in the window. Yuck. I’m going to try to figure out a way to remove it on days I don’t want it, but right now that is pretty close to impossible.
On a lighter note, maybe, I got a hair cut on Thursday.
Anyway, besides that, it was a week like most others: walking, running, exercise, etc. The big difference was that the dogs don’t really like to walk in the heat and I don’t force them. They also don’t play as long or as hard. They did scare a deer out of the backyard. It was just a few feet from the house!

Agreed. Don’t want to have to rely on anything, particularly something as bad for the environment. Oh well, hopefully the autumn weather will be here soon and you can remove it again.

Oh and we had to put a small ac unit in the bonus room and it is a huge gift – that room
Would get clammy on hot days – and it is a gift to have – but does make a hum as you noted – sometimes it feels like white noise but I am not in there often —
And wow – sounds like your office had some serious hot and humid conditions – so good call to get the unit

My office is kind of a “bonus room” as well – it is a balcony that is outside of the house’s wall! It has a thin, flat roof (black, of course). One side is up against the upper floor of the barn which is always hot. So, sun on the flat roof all day, up against the hot barn, etc. yeah, it gets hot. But when the AC goes in the window, well, that little window is the only way the room gets any air, so, yeah… But, like yours, in ways it is a gift.
It is satisfying :)

Glad to have it part of my life – but might need to take another break soon to finish some simmering and stagnant projects –

It is about pacing – I had a major unintentional slow down in June, but it was needed. Yep, the weekend was good. i spent a lot of time outside, which is always a plus :)

June 2020 for me will always go down as one of my top writing months – ever for me! As far as output goes
Sometimes from dusk til dawn or dawn to dusk – haha

lol, a little different. It was a bit of a slowdown for me, but not stopping – I posted half of the days, 15. One week I posted twice. That was when I was on vacation, and in the 9 days, I posted on two of them. Glad you got a lot written.

Well I had momentum and just went with it – couple times I was half asleep going back to the computer 💻 with some tea ☕️
But I had “writing head” when it ended and it was far too much sitting – even though I have a high desk to use for times of standing or using different chairs with different heights –
Anyhow – hope your vacation was nice – and you say twice posts while in vacay? Am I wrong – but sometimes you don’t post at all when on vacay – right?

I did a draft of my WIP in March and spent all my free time doing it – I posted less in march than in June!
I took a full week off of work in June and spent it at my house on Cape Cod. I think I was actually at the house for 13 days. When I am on the Cape I will usually post, well, sometimes ;) It’s when I go away that I really don’t post, particularly if I am visiting – blogging is rude when I am visiting family or friends.

OK, I have done some blogging while visiting, but mostly reading…
At the end of May I called the drafting of the WIP done. i sent it out to a few betareaders. i still haven’t heard back from one. I’ve made a few small tweaks. not sure how much more I will do, but…. I still have all of the editing for missed words, typos, etc to do.

I see that you couldn’t wait the night ;) Anyway, I have heard a lot of advice, but not sure if I follow it, I just go by instinct. Some things I remember are – make sure you can read the title when it is down to almost icon size. Don’t make it too cluttered or too distracting (something I’m not great at). I know there are a lot of things about keeping it similar to other works in the genre so people know what to expect, but the books I like never fit that mold…

Actually, the AC is less than that – it is only in my office, so I only am it in it when using the computer. the rest of the house does not have AC.

I must have been away a while because I didn’t recognise your new flowery, Van Gogh-y photo for NH. We don’t have AC. We manage with fans when the temp hits the plus-40C. It’s not often enough in the south of the country to warrant the cost. We did get ceiling fans installed in the boys’ bedrooms upstairs a few years ago when they got too old to drag their mattresses downstairs and have a sleepover together in the family room on hot nights.

I started using the flowery Van Gogh mug for summer in NH late last summer – I have the same mug in the same location but encased in snow for winter, a rich coffee in that spot, but surrounded by colorful leaves for fall and the Van Gogh mug on an outdoor table for spring.
I only have it in this one room, fans every where else. i do need some ceiling fans! They actually help in winter as well, since it blows the heat that rises back into the living area.
I think of Australia as being so hot in the summer that it almost surprises me that you can get by with just fans.

Thank you for the coffee. I can relate to the air-condition situation. With added humidity it can get quiet hot, on the other hand only a few days..some people around here are getting AC, I’m holding off. I hope you take time out of your busy life to enjoy the things you truly love.

I went out to the deck to water the plants and I woke up a squirrel who was sacked out on the railing. Warm weather and a good feeding sent him off to a long, peaceful nap.

It’s pretty much a blue collar style solution, but I too had an issue with a portable AC unit leaking air when I didn’t need it, but it really was a pain to remove. I used some thick cardboard and duct tape to make a cover that just sat over the output side which backed up enough of the air pressure to eliminate most of the leakage.
At 90+ degrees with 100% humidity, I’d be worthless for much of anything.

the 90 + degree, high humidity, has been the last three days. The AC actually works well, it is just that once it is in the window, this room is stiffing, even if it isn’t hot out, so I have to run it. I just don’t like the feel of AC air in general, so I don’t have it in the rest of the house. (I grew up without it, and my parents only got it when they reached their 80s, so ti is my whole family). On days like today, I spent as much time away from the computer as possible, to avoid having to be in a room with AC air ;) Though, when I got back from running, it was nice to go in here and cool off :)

I totally agree about the air con, its like fake air, dries the skin & i don’t know if its just me but it alters the air pressure in a room messes up my sinuses. sorry that was a little dramatic. At least its a little reprieve for you. Funny i’m sitting in the formal dining room/library waiting for the fire to warm up the house. Looking forward to summer our summers get pretty hot mid to high 40c. We love the humidity as it means rain is coming in Aus it can be God send as the ground crackles under our feet. I hope you have a wonderful cool rest of the weekend.

Funny thinking about a fire… though this evening would be a good one for having a fire in an outdoor fire pit, sitting and enjoying the warm evening breeze. We do get a lot of rain here, and the weather often moves off of the ocean, so it is often humid even when there is no rain. We had a short, non-predicted thunderstorm today caused by the hot, humid air. Hope your weekend has gone well and you have a good week ahead :)

Most ACs are pretty good at cutting humidity – it is amazing that my office can be 5 degrees warmer than the rest of the upstairs and 10 degrees warmer than the downstairs, and yet feel cooler because it takes the humidity out of the air. If it doesn’t vent, though, there would have to be some place that it puts the water. I know they have ventless driers that have to bee emptied often. Maybe something like that? Not sure.

I understand completely about the noise of the air conditioner. I have two window units in my home — and in Southern Illinois, they are a must during the summer — but I find that I turn them off for a few hours every day — so that I can get a rest from the noise. On the other hand, they are a true blessing for all the other hours of every miserable summer day. :)

There is something about the feel of AC air that I don’t like – even if it is very hot and humid I would rather be in the natural air and will only go into my air conditioned office when I have to. I can understand it in some areas, or some buildings. I spent a lot of time in the south as a kid, and they didn’t have AC back then, so, yeah, it could get hot! I remember leaving northern OH and it would be in low 80s, and getting to our cousin’s house at 3 AM it being 85 and the air so thick you feel like you could twirl an empty bucket a few times and it would fill with water. Us kids spent every waking moment in the woods, playing in the creek, etc., but the adults were miserable…

Oh boy, the heat and humidity is yucky. And I’m glad you get some relief from the air conditioner even though you trade cool air for noise. 🙃 It’s good to know you have a good reputation at work and are a “go to” person, except that often means more work. I have a love-hate relationship with the AC. I’m very glad it is just my office! On days like today, I only come into the room when I need to – the heat in the rest of the house is better than that awful AC air and the noise.

Our weather here is not hot and it really hasn’t been that nice of a summer. It was so chilly the other day I told my husband that I would turn the heat on if that didn’t sound so ridiculous in JULY! That said, yesterday wasn’t to bad and we were under a funnel cloud warning a few days ago. Anyway, I hope you have a nice weekend. Thanks for the virtual cup.
