Photos of Cape Cod May – July, 2020

Yesterday I took a couple of hours and zipped through the hundreds of photos I have taken in the last few months.  I didn’t look at every photo – I barely even glanced at the photos of flying osprey, of which there were hundreds, but grabbed one from this weekend:

Osprey

In fact, this weekend is pretty much the culmination of the summer in photos – I think i got a few of the best photos yet this year over the last few days (see my Weekly Smile for examples, though those photos will be added at the bottom).

Piping plover

After looking at this weekend, I added in some piping plover shots, and a few other birds, from earlier, though i think the bluebird and catbird where actually taken in New Hampshire.

Of course there were a few other odds and ends to add, such as this cool, withering sunflower.

Fading sunlight

And a lucky five-leaf clover.

1,2,3..4!..5!!!

For the most part, though, I concentrated on the more recent photos and photos from Cape Cod.

Like this of the hummingbird nest outside of my window:

Here are some of the best, including one I posted earlier – an osprey chick in the nest which you can compare with the newer osprey chick photo (in the newer photo, young osprey have white marks on their backs and bright bronze color eyes, as opposed to yellow eyes).

As always, click on a photo to see more detail.  Once a photo is bigger, you can scroll through them

Incredible photos of incredible critters and other stuff. The hummingbird nest is so cool as is the 5-leaf clover. Never saw one but I should start looking, I need the superluck. Loons are magical birds to me. The bluebirds also.

Thanks! I do love taking photos of the different critters and birds – it forces me to really look at them. I had found a 5-leaf clover as a kid, actually, a few, but haven’t seen any since then. Unfortunately, the luck hasn’t arrived ;) The problem with the loons is that I don’t hear them call here on Cape Cod the way they do on lonely lakes up north. Still cool seeing them, but to me, 90% of their magic is their call.

You are welcome. Very enjoyable to look at them. As to the loons, maybe they stay quiet where more people are to protect themselves? I saw something about lead sinkers being devastating to the loons and there is a shot exchange program out your way to intervene on their behalf.

This year has been such a downer on so many levels I haven’t taken nearly as many pictures as usual. I suppose the very hot weather didn’t help any, but I haven’t felt very inspired. Not a great year for inspiration. But your pictures are really gorgeous and your Osprey pictures are wonderful.

I have tried to get out more this year to take photos, but it hasn’t always worked… It’s been a strange year all around. And I have not wanted to sit and wade through the photos I have taken! Thanks! i love watching and photographing osprey. There are eagles around my parents house, but for some reason the osprey fascinate me more.

WOW! Such beautiful photos! Wildlife is the best subject. I can’t believe how camouflaged the hummingbirds nest is, so amazing. Thanks for the tip to click on photos and then I could scroll thru them! I now know what I want for Christmas and will put on my wish list. A digital camera! Your photos and others who share from cameras are AMAZING!! ❤️😃 I LOVE photography!

Thanks! yeah, even though I knew exactly where to look, I couldn’t always see the hummingbird’s nest just 15 feet away from me! I love seeing the wildlife and having the camera helps me watch it :)

Thanks, Dawn! The baby humming birds were amazing. i do love seeing the birds, even if we don’t get sandhill cranes around here… On the other hand, there aren’t many seals in Lake Huron or Michigan… (or Erie, where I grew up).

Thanks, Robbie. People talk about 4-leaf clovers being good luck, mostly because they are rare and people feel lucky to find one. I usually find one or two a year, sometimes more. 5-leaf clovers? They are much rarer. I haven’t seen one since I was a kid until I found this one back in May. I’m not sure where the good luck is, but I’m sure it will come. Eventually ;)
