“Look, Mom, angels!”
Timmy pointed at the flaming people falling from the sky.
“Ah-huh.” She didn’t look.
Tim quickly discovered never to mention those others since they were invisible to most.
But people did respond to them, as they whispered in ears and tugged on shirt sleeves.
As an adult, Timothy watched in horror as the world was shaped by the flaming beasts.
And then they were gone.
He hadn’t thought of them in ages.
Getting ready to push his latest legislation through, Timothy paused.
Had they accomplished their goals and left, or had they just become invisible to him?

lol, I think they are everywhere, otherwise, humans are evil of their own accord ;)

I chose evil ;)

Watching the news, some days I agree…

What an interesting take on this prompt. Children really do seem to see the magic before they have to start stuffing their creativity into boxes and live “sensible” adult lives.

Children often can see the world in an entirely different way, still seeing the magic. As someone else mentioned, that is the good thing about being an author (actually any type of artist) – we are given a license to see that magic again and share it with others.

Gotta love that :)

I wonder what Timothy’s legislation is about? Nothing good if the ‘angels’ are in charge maybe…

He paused before pushing it through, so my guess he realized it wasn’t good. You are right, if Timothy was influenced by the “angels”, it most likely was pretty awful…

You can’t see them when you’re all grown up. So you can’t tell when they’re whispering in your ear…

Exactly. Only people free of them can see them. If you are under their influence, well…

So let me get this straight…the flaming beasts are running the show?…Ah, now that makes sense. Thanks for the heads up! Well done!

It all makes sense now, doesn’t it? Thanks!

This must give us pause: are we really in control? Nice story, Trent.

I reflects rather badly on us if we are in control ;) Thanks.

I’m not sure whether I like those angllllels or not!

Yeah, I think they may not be angels, and perhaps there is a reason not to like them…

Looks like Timmy can see reality for what it is. Pity they became invisible, else he could become a superhero :)

I think they became invisible once they started to influence him… He doesn’t know yet, but if he did, yes, a super hero….

I really like the concept and the line “Timothy watched in horror as the world was shaped by the flaming beasts.”

Thanks. Sometimes I think that has to be the only explanation ;)

Reality kicks in and the spark disappears from so many people, but as someone has previously said the writer can create what ever he or she wants to keep the fantasy alive. Good stuff, I really liked this one Trent

Thanks. Some of us try to keep that spark alive, even talking to that fictional creature, the muse, as if she were really… Hey, muse, cut that out! I promise I’ll stop calling you fictional if you don’t stop sparking my imagination! OK, now where where we?

Events in our world do seem to be shaped by flaming beasts.

They do seem to be shaped by flaming beasts. Every time I read the news, I see their influence more and more…

At first, when they are called angels, it suggests a force for good, but as the MC describes them as flaming beasts, they sound more sinister. I really hope they went back to through the portal of evil they fell out of. Interesting story, Trent.

At first he saw them as angels, flaming as they fell from the sky (i.e., “angels” kicked out of heaven….). the older he got, the more sinister he realized they were. Hopefully they did go back to wherever they came from, but looking at the world today, I’m not so sure… I wonder what was in that bill he was trying to get passed, what it was that gave him pause… ;)

Most people do grow out of seeing the magic, Trent. We are lucky we are writers and get to keep our imaginative ideas.

Most of us do grow out of seeing the magic, even the black magic ;) I agree, we are lucky that we are allowed to let our imaginations roam free and find magic in the everyday.

They were asteroids. Now, time for the BIG one.

Yep.
Thinking of the “Big One”, on Friday night I put this on my Facebook feed:
I’m sorry to those of you who had “major, flaming heatwave” for August’s disaster, there is still a week left and “Two hurricanes hitting the Gulf coast in two consecutive days” still has a chance of being this month’s winner…
And those of you with supervolcano eruption, asteroid hit, “The big one” (quake the puts the pacific coast in Nevada), etc., there are still four more months in the game “2020”!
