Hello and Welcome! Take a seat and I’ll get you a nice large mug of super strong dark roast, a cuppa tea or some other beverage. It is warmish, but humid, so I won’t say anything if you’d rather have a cold drink. It is kind of funny out and they are predicting rain and thunder storms, but so far we’ve been missed. If it does rain, we can move a couple of chairs and a side table under the overhang. I don’t know if you can call this a porch or what (protected side of the barn). Oh, so where are we? Some may recognize the photo at the top as being from Cape Cod.
Now look at the photo just above. See the overhang I was talking about? You may not be able to tell, but there is a brand new roof on the barn, new windows and the siding is also brand new – it is cedar shingles, which will turn grey as they age. Cedar Shingles are very popular on Cape Cod, not just barns, but a lot of houses. I took this with my new phone last night at sunset. I was eating supper at the picnic table (visible). I had just put the yard back together after it being occupied by the builders, who finished on Thursday. The table is pretty close to where it was in the photo at the top, so I am close to the hammock looking back towards the house.
I said “new phone”, didn’t I? On Monday evening I went out for my weekly grocery shopping. There was stuff I wanted to get out of the backseat of my car before I left, so I stopped my routine to do that. Bad. Later, may car suddenly said that it could no longer see my cell phone… On the way back, I stopped and found it, right where people stop for a light. It was in pretty bad shape… I spent hours trying to order a phone for pickup. I kept getting errors. Finally I used the online chat, and the person on chat got my phone ordered. I just said, “I want the cheapest Android smart phone, perhaps Samsung.” That’s what I got. I like it, but the camera is awful. And there are other quirks. Still, I don’t understand why it is 1/5 the price of the next model up. There is not 5x the difference! Not even twice. Anyway, so growing pains with the new phone this week, but not terrible.
My hot water tank at the place on Cape Cod was installed in the 1990s. Yeah, that’s old. It failed. So, not only did the workers finish the barn Thursday, I had a plumber come in and replace my hot water tank. I had him install water for a washer (clothes washer) while he was here. The house is slowly coming along…
While down here, I did a good run by one beach yesterday and took a long walk on another (my favorite) this morning. That is besides the normal things.
Work was busy, but not insane.
I had massage.
And that was my week!

The roof looks beautiful, love the color. I’m glad everything’s done with the house, I’m sure it’s all worth it once you’ve cleaned up. I’m not a fan of transitioning to new phones. When I do, I’m always all for the necessity of it like its really old or the software is not upgradable anymore. Then I get something that’s midrange with the right specs for everyday use and hopefully, will last me for 5 years minimum. Hope your weekend is good. Thanks for coffee.

Everything is done on the outside, or at least house and barn. Still a huge amount of work to do, but I’m not in a hurry. This is the second phone in a row I broke, but I got over 4 years, so not terrible. I got a low end phone this time mostly because it was just easiest. It is still a lot faster than the old! I had a great camera on the last (it was supposed to be one of the top phone-cameras at the time), so that is the only down.

Having to replace a phone sucks. And they’re so expensive! Unless you join a plan forever, you have to pay a crazy amount. I have one that’s somewhat new (they get old so quickly too!) and I’ll be honest, I have no idea how to work most of the things on it. Sigh. Good luck with yours!

I said I wanted the cheapest phone, so not as expensive as it could have been! Right now I have most of it except for passwords to the apps I use. Oh well, no Instagram fior a while ;)

Passwords – I have to just send off for a new password all the time. I used to stick to the same one but my Dad told me I shouldn’t now I can never remember what I use where hehe. Sorry to hear about your phone though, i was annoyed when I cracked the safety screen on my phone and the warranty was a con so i ended up having to buy a new screen.
I like shady yards too, too pale for too much sun and putting sun cream on all the time is a pain.

One weak tea with milk, coming up. It is very cool watching this place take shape. It is a homey place, but with a lot of antique charm, in a quiet area, but close to lot of activities. And the shady back yard is great :)
I have a few password “roots that I use to base all of my passwords. Simple accounts have simpler roots, banking have super complex. I then change the beginign and end. For the oens I change all of the time, I write down just the chaneg and my brain (hopefully) remembers which root. The problem is, most of my phone ones haven’t changed in years. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to change them all….

I do like rural towns I grew up in a quiet town, not much to do though and I’ve got used to City life now and we have some beautiful parks and areas nearby in Greenwich, its about a 20 minute walk to the River Thames.
I used to do Countries and numbers at the end but then i forgot which countries went with which numbers hehe. Phones are getting so clever now.
Hope you have a great week too, the good thing about a PAYE job is you get holidays and tomorrow is a bank holiday yay, so I can just sing all day.

I do like being in the city, but am used to small towns. This house is in a vacation town, but out of the way, part of the “old town” where tourists don’t go, but 2 minute walk to a large tidal river (not as large as the Thames!) but over an hour and a half drive from Boston.

I tend to hang onto my phones until I break them, so not too awful I had to replace a 4 or 5 year old phone, but still…. Thanks! My yard is very shady, so I don’t need it to get away from the sun, but I think I will put a few seats there, particularly for when there is alight rain.

I like others have mentioned buy cell phones with good cameras. One day I’d like to purchase a nice digital camera. Like you say though, they are hard to carry around. I do really like the cedar shingle siding. A lot of houses and barns around here have it. I think on Nantucket it is mandatory – maybe 95% of buildings have cedar shingle siding. I’ll play around with the phone’s camera, but so far it isn’t as good as the last I had. On the other hand, when I bought my last phone, the camera was one of the selling points. The exterior is almost like brand new. The inside? Uhm…. lol, this is going to be a long term project, but it is coming along. The last time anybody put a lot of time and effort into the house was in the 1950s…. The great thing about th back yard is that there are a lot of big, old trees, so very little sun, so don’t need to go onto that “porch” to avoid the sun.
Yeah, the phone thing sucked, but it was 4 years old, so about time to change it.

Well it is. I vowed to not watch news this weekend and our tv just decided to overheat and melt a corner. So no tv for movies which is what we dining the evenings. Oh well. House sounds lovely.

Cedar shingles are far and away better than vinyl which seems to be covering too many houses anymore. Your “barn” looks as nice as many homes! Do you have critters or is it more for storage? I had a couple of hot water heaters installed a few years ago. Those things aren’t cheap when you add in labor.

I know some people do old buildings with vinyl, but I like to stay natural. A new house? Maybe… The shingles are very popular here, and look great, or will once it has aged – shingles are the only siding that improves with age. The barn really looked very much like a barn before the new windows and siding! And the old roof was wood (I’m not sure if cedar) but about 75 or 80 years old – it leaked… 175 years ago, when the house and barn were first built, I’m sure it had the horses and carriages – it was in town even then. We haven’t moved in full time yet, but it will just be storage for us. You are right, the hot water heater and labor… ouch. I have money set aside for restoration, but it is going very quickly! But, there are still a few years before I retire and move in full time…

There is a pattern forming with you and massage Trent. How did you get started with it and how is it that it earns it’s keep? The introvert in me would not enjoy it much I think – but you might well know something here I don’t.

I started massage about 20 years ago, maybe longer. I had always been very stiff, and this has helped loosen me up. I can move easier, less jerky and have fewer aches and pains, etc. I try to have it every other week. It is a pretty big ticket item in my budget, but worth it. And, yeah, I’m a major introvert, a bit shy (different than introvert) and someone who always hated locker rooms, but I have never been self conscious when I’ve had massage, and though I would choose a female therapist over a male, I am not uncomfortable with either.

I do use the camera on my phone a lot. Maybe I will get one of my small “real cameras” out and leave it close by (my good camera is too big to carry around every day). Still a huge amount of work to do on the house, but the outside is looking good :) Thanks! Have a great rest of your weekend.

It really looks very beautiful with the new siding and roof. I like cedar a lot! I once experimented doing an inside makeover of an old RV doing cedar sidings…I did the job myself and if I have to say it, it turned out OK. I got a good deal on small scrap pieces of cedar sidings at Home Depot, that I used as a puzzle, sort of, perfect for the RV. Best of luck with your weekend and the new phone. Cedar siding is great. I’m sure it gave a homey feel to your RV. The work they did on the barn and house came out great. With the house being painted, the entire place looks totally different. I’m sure the neighbors are happy as well ;)

Yes. I don’t know how we used to manage without them. It seems like such a long time ago when people had to use public phones because they didn’t have cells. Now, we can’t do without them. We use them not only for calls but for texting, taking photos, surfing the Internet, etc.
