I took a week off of work last week. Reason enough to smile, no? But I will talk about kayaking. OK, I hear the yawns – when don’t I talk about kayaking? I will do something a little different today.
Most of the time I get out in the boat, I head up the river. The river is tidal, so I mean farther inland. There are some built up areas going inland, but there are also more wild areas. For the most part there are far few people. There are some brackish water ponds and coves and such to explore and watch wildlife, like this osprey with a needlefish.

On Friday I decided to head towards the coast. It starts with a really pretty section, but soon it is just docks and more docks. But close to the ocean, it gets a little less dense. There even are a few small areas of saltwater marshes to explore. Where the river hits the ocean, just before the break-wall, there were quite a few boats tied up just off shore and several pulled up. I found a nice place farther from the crowds and pulled the kayak up. I got out and swam for 15 minuets, then dried off. After that, a boat pulled up next to me, so time to go. I explored some marsh areas before shading back through the thick of the docklands.
Overall, it was a very good paddle and far different than my typical one. I very rarely swim when paddling. I try to avoid the crowds instead of going right through the middle of them. I won’t go this way every paddle, but it is nice to mix it up.
That was my smile for the week, several paddles including one that was very different.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).
Great shot! And cool paddle.

The rains have, and the awe-inspiring skies. As have the bountiful nature and teeming wildlife. This morning the regal peacock made me really happy.
And I am grateful for being healthy and alive in this torn up world. And family friends who matter.
I love the Osprey. Hope to see one some day.
And Kayaking sounds fab, so stop apologising. :)
Have a stellar week ahead, dear Trent. Thanks for the smiles.

Yesterday was a rainy day, but we don’t have a rainy season quite like the monsoons. I love watching the osprey, but would love to see some of the wildlife from your region.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful weekend :)

Sounds like a nice trip. Great capture of the Osprey. I think we all have to change things up from time to time.

Thanks, Diana. A few years ago I did submit a few photos to NG’s shot of the day. They pretty much went by unnoticed…. Kayaking is great. It can be very peaceful and a way to get close to nature. It was a good vacation week :)

Thanks, I’d rather be the sparrow than the snail, or, to change S&G – I’d rather be the osprey than the fish, oh yes I would, if i could…
