I talked to you again
We said just a few words
A few lines
A quick stroke
A gesture
I made a joke
It fell flat
You laughed
At the joke
Or me?
A few lines
A quick stroke
A gesture
I feel I know you
Do you know me?
Time has been short
Just snatches of conversation
A few lines
A quick stroke
A gesture
Do we ever
Truly know anybody?
Can we ever paint that portrait
Or is it always a sketch?
A few lines
A quick stroke
A gesture

OK, I wanted to write something, so was looking through old images. This was just a real quick sketched I made when creating the self-portrait for my blog. I looked at it and said those repeated lines above. OK, so I need to make a poem using those lines… And that is one of the weird ways my mind works ;)
Nice poem, and nice sketch

You have so much talent.
One question, do you have any YouTube videos of your piano playing? The little bit you posted once was amazing.

Thanks. I do have a Youtube channel, though most of the music on it is electronic. A few piano pieces and some orchestral music as well: https://www.youtube.com/user/trentpmcd

The poem and sketch are a wonderful pairing. The sketch has a lot of personality. I like that. And the repeat in the poem was striking. Well done.

Thanks, Diana. It is funny, I ended up liking the sketch more than the finished drawing I did. I want the meaning of the repeated words to shift a little depending on context. I’m not sure if it came across.

That is a beautiful self-portrait! :-) …and words!

Thanks, Marina! It is funny, I did this as a quick sketch before attempting a “real” self-portrait, but after several attempts, I liked the 5-minute version better than any of my finished ones! I still use a colored version of one of the attempts on the logo of my blog.
