If We Were Having Coffee on the 26th of September, 2020

Hello and Welcome! Come on over and take a seat and I’ll get you a nice mug of super strong dark roast, a cuppa tea or other beverage. It is a little cool out and foggy, but the day is improving. The week started off frigid, with temperatures dipping far below freezing at night, but the last couple of days have been around 80 F/27 C. It will stay warm for several more days before getting back to the more typical autumn weather.

It was an odd week. Work was pretty busy, but not insane, though there were two days that were totally filled with back-to-back meetings. I ran a couple of times, doing my hilly run, did weight exercises, though only did my full routine once because the dogs kept interrupting! (I locked them out that one time), I have still been doing the 25 pushups for 25 day challenge – today will be day 17. Of course there is the typical dog play (they really love the cooler weather!), dog walks, massage and a Lions Club meeting over Zoom.

And really, that is about it. I thought I did more, and that last week was a little more adventurous, but I don’t remember a thing about it. Oh yeah, I drove back from Cape Cod on Sunday. But little else to talk about.

With that, I do have a lot of normal, boring things to do. I need to take a run down to Lowes and the pet store. I have to take the dogs out before I go. I will putter around this weekend. Perhaps make it out for a short hike tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by! f you have a coffee share, I will try to stop in and say hi.

Have a great weekend.

The coffee share is hosted over on Eclectic Alli.  The link to join is here.

I need to learn a rain dance as well – they say we are at least 30 cm short on rain so far this year (this is a wet region, but even here, 30 cm is a lot!) Glad it isn’t in the 30s, but pretty close today… Luckily here it will cool back down in a few days. You are in spring, so, yikes! I don’t want to visit in the summer!

Our summers are not typically like this, at least in Harare whih usually has moderate temps and rainfall showers throughout the year, such temperatures and dryness are usually experienced in the low lying areas of the lowveld and heard their temperatures are hitting North of 35 with a potential to touch the 40s… one wonders at what temperature our insides starts cooking
definitely 2020 is not the best year to visit …. on the upside maybe it would explain the low COVID cases

It sounds like you need a doggie daycare. Maybe just a large fenced in area in your backyard just for some doggie playtime. We have a large fenced in backyard and then we added a pen that is about 20ft x 40ft. When the dogs are too rowdy meaning Zoee and Cricket they go in the pen x 3 hours or so but Daisy hides from the pen lol. She enjoys the quiet time away from the rowdy wrestlers.

We haven’t done doggy daycare in ages – I’m sure they’d love it. I do spend too much time supervising the dogs, but, on the other hand, I enjoy it ;) I need several walks a day and often take a walk without the dogs so I can go faster and farther (no stopping to sniff). I also like to play with them some, though there are days that it is way too much ;) We once did an electric fence, and that might work best – doing a fenced in area here would be difficult. At our place on Cape Cod i may put in some fencing that will be more as a reminder of their boundaries than an actual barrier for progress. We had something like that at the other place we used to have on the Cape, and it worked well. So far they are doing a great job staying were I want, but…

I love our dogs and playing with them etc. but at times when Cricket throws her XXL Foot and paw on me its tough. it normally leaves a bruise. We love for them to have the entire backyard BUT the latest thing is taking the plants out of my pots and then dumping the dirt out.

Our dogs have lots of crepe myrtle limbs cut into sticks because they make the best sticks for dogs. They have balls, balls and ropes, tires, dirt, pools etc. there is jut no need on unpotting my plants. This is Zoee and Cricket not my Daisy girl.

    Hi Trent,
We’re enjoying Spring here and the warmer, but not hot, weather. Again the weather here is quite variable. However, my husband sees Spring and Autumn as transition seasons where you have some hot and cold days mixed in with the more temperate days, although climate change is having an impact as well and probably notching things up a bit.
I have quite a social weekend. I hope I social distanced. There’s no recorded covid around here, but as we all know, Covid’s sneaky and can right under the radar.
The kids are on school holidays now, and going away seems too much effort. However, I would like us to do some family activities.
    Take care & best wishes,
    Ro

Autumn is typically the most “pleasant” season here, so ti is strange that this year it has either been a little too cold or a bit too warm and humid. Glad you were able to get out over the weekend and hope you stayed safe. Have you enjoy the week and having the kids home from school.

Humph! I don’t like the sound of what’s going on with your Autumn temperatures. It’s getting harder to fob off climate change.
The school holidays are rather perplexing. They’ve shifted from me entertaining them to be driving them around the countryside. I don’t always have a lot of energy so this is a bit of a juggling act. Perhaps, I shouldn’t worry so much, but then a bit of planning ahead can help as well. The flip side, too, is that if our kids were just wanting to stay home, I’d be really concerned as well. It would be ideal if I had just a bit more stamina.

Looking at weather everywhere, it does seem harder and harder to deny something is happening…
I’m sure you will be busy and tired over the next couple of weeks… Mostly you’ll miss them when they go back, but be glad for that respite ;) (I do remember that you have health issues and so it may be harder than other parents with very active kids.)

Trent, I ended up having to drive my son an hour each way for him to help out with sound at a funeral at a different branch of our Church and I had to fill in a few hours. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go. I am not the most confident driver and I get lost easily as well. However, our son is good with directions and I hoped we’d talk in the car. Well, I feel so much closer to him after this trip and seeing the sound desk. I was also very grateful that he was helping people, especially after the terrible things year 12 students have been plotting at the end of school. I asked my son what he likes about doing sound, and it was to help people sound better. I thought that was lovely. A proud moment. While he was there, I did some shopping, brought lunch and checked out the lighthouse at Norah Head. I’ll be posting some photos soon. It was a wonderful day!

Very cool you had that “bonding experience” with your son. I did see your post about the rotten things some year-12 kids were supposed to do, but there is hope for the youth after all ;) I am sure you are proud. Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Proud and relieved. Our son hasn’t had an easy road. My health issues have produced a lot of trauma. However, recently he got up and gave his testimony at youth. I knew he was going to refer to my health issues and he asked me a few questions. I never expected to hear what he was going to say and thought there was going to be a poor me story in there somewhere. However, instead he spoke about how my faith was a guidin light to him. Not just my spiritual faith but my faith that I’d get better. He said I could’ve suck like a stone but I kept looking round the next corner and kept going because I had faith. It was news to me. As you’d know, I’m much more tentative but I’ve been determined to see my kids grow up and be there for him and I’ve never put an expiry date on my hope. I’ve always wanted to keep going and I remember reaching 50 seemed like an impossible dream when I was having chemo years ago. However, I turned 51 this year. Still here and as long as I stay clear of covid, I’m doing really well. Hard to believe really. Before I had the chemo treatment and changed my meds afterwards, I had flare ups every couple of years and infusions every three weeks in hospital. I have so much to be grateful for!!

It is great that he has that point of view. Keep hoping and pushing, trying new things even if playing violin or dancing or whatever might not seem like the best hobbies for you, I am sure they are part of what keeps your head above water.

Most definitely. My research has been a life saver this year. Now, I just need to start writing the stories up. The Yamaha MX88 has also been a great idea and I’m practicing most days. This, of course, is filled with pleasure and frustration but I am improving. Have you heard of The Black Piano Book? I bought that recently and it has quite a cross-section of pieces and is well-priced. I’ve started on Eine Kleine Nacht Musik, which was so much easier on the recorder when I was in primary school but a pleasure to play. It’s going to take awhile to master that. I think its five pages long, and I just hope there’s some repetition.
Hope your week is going well.
                    Best wishes,
                    Rowena

Hi, Trent. No autumn here yet. It was ninety degrees and very humid these last few days. Sigh. Last week I had way too many responsibilities. I feel like a week was stolen from me. Yesterday, I just stayed at the house, exercised, worked a little (which is still too much on a Saturday), and wrote my coffee share. Well, there was reading, too, but it was self-help reading.Though it does really interest me! I hope you have a great week, and I look forward to photos of fall foliage!

Low 80s and humid here – just seems odd, but better than the 90s! Yuck, one reason I live in the Northeast and not Florida! Yesterday the leaves seemed to suddenly change, but for some reason I am not enthusiastic about taking photos, so we’ll see about foliage photos.

Thanks! Yes, I plan on celebrating by having a well deserved rest day ;) Actually, I most likely won’t do anything more than a blog post about it. I will also start to do pushups as part of my 2 or 3 times a week workout program, which it was a part of before.

I guess the weather has just been weird every where. I think everyone, human and animals, are confused (my cats are starting to shed again…). When I reach day 25 of the pushups, I will scale it back to being just a part of my workout routine – every day is a bit much! But I do feel a difference. Thanks for stopping by. i hope you have a wonderful week :)

Thank you for the coffee. It still feels like summer here but, like you, we’ll be experiencing more autumn-like weather later this week. I might have to join your push-up challenge. I need to do something. I’ve been quite lazy about exercising lately (except for daily walks/hikes).

We had that odd week of late October weather, and now it is shorts and summer again… Glad normal autumn will soon be here. I do some strength exercise, so was very surprised at how hard the challenge is (the first day seemed easy, but the second…) and how awful my form was (getting much better…). Part of the challenge is to film it and post the video on facebook with a blurb about PTSD, which ends up being a great way to work on form. Hope your weekend is going well and that you have been getting a lot of outdoor time for those walks and hikes.

Thank you for the coffee! It’s nice to feel the Fall weather and can’t believe it’s almost October! I feel the same as you, doing the same thing we do each week, super busy at work which is good and bad, good for job security but bad for job stress. My horses and dogs feel good in cool weather just like your pup’s do!! Lol 🤣 I hope you have a great weekend!! ❤️

Weather has been a bit back and forth here. One minutes it is nice, then its cold and nice again and then it rains. I am sure it is just a matter of time before snow enters stage right.

Thanks for the virtual cup of coffee. I hope you have a nice week.

I’m hoping the snow holds off here for a while… It has been an odd year for us – either much warmer (warm winter, warm summer) or much cooler (cold spring, cool September), and went from too much rain in March to a drought through the summer…
Thanks for stopping by. Hope your weekend is going well :)

Hello Trent, your dogs sound a bit like my kids. But with the school year starting again their discipline has changed, and I can work from home without them interrupting every 5 minutes or needing to be put in front of youtube, that was when we were no longer confined and I was home alone with them as there was no school or daycare, going from both parents present all the time, to only one present but working at the same time was super tough for them at first.
I hope that you will have a lovely weekend. But with autumn slowly settling in, I am sure that it will be.

I started working from home full time right before Covid hit, and had teleworked 3 days a week before that, so the dogs have been very spoiled about having my time… I’m sure it is hard for your kids to readjust with all of the changes. I hope they are getting back into a routine.
It was great “seeing” you! It’s been a while. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend and enjoying the early autumn.
