A month early or a year late? #tanka

Soft noise behind me
The floorboards creak with her weight
My love has woken
Though dead for a thousand years

Scent of fresh blood revives her

lol, yes, I am a month early for Halloween, but I saw an older version of the picture and knew I had to use it! I did edit it a little more, but…

This was written for Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge. This week was to use a specific form, which was tanka. I do write quite a few tankas.

Let’s hope she never sees the picture, or doesn’t recognize it as herself, Trent. You are a brave guy. Your pivotal line did not clue me into what was coming. I love that surprise. BTW, when is your birthday? Mine is the week after Halloween and my brother’s is the week before. :)

lol, yeah, I hope she doesn’t make it here (The class was over 15 years ago, so the chance of recognition….) I was born right on the 31st, so I know that there is always a party on my birthday. I am never invited to it, of course, but I know there is one ;)

LOL. So you are right between my brother and me! We didn’t celebrate both of our birthdays individually. I didn’t mind, we always had a big party and always had fun on Halloween. I doubt that she would recognize herself with those blackened eyes and dead skin tones. You are a talented artist, Trent.

Thanks, though I am not sure she would have recognized herself the original oil before I took it to photoshop ;) lol. I do know a lot of people who have shared birthday celebrations, and with Halloween in the middle of yours, that makes a lot of sense.

I really enjoy Halloween, but I don’t decorate or do anything special, except things for my birthday, but that is a different story…. Carving pumpkins used to be something for kids, but it has become popular. There are two different pumpkin festivals within a 45 minute drive from my house that display thousands of carved pumpkins, so, yeah, some people really get into carving them.
