Hi all! It was a weird week, but in some ways a very special week. I’ll narrow it down even more: Saturday was a special day! Yep. One of the most special days of the year.
OK, I do love Halloween – Autumn is by far my favorite time of year and Halloween caps it off perfectly, but that is not what I was talking about. You see, I made one more journey around our home star! I wrote that statement before and it seems everyone missed it, so I may need to explain further…
I had a birthday on Saturday.

I really didn’t do much. Walks outside, watching the snow melt (yes, snow!). Normal things like that. There were some gifts and a nice dinner (take out from a good restaurant). Mostly it was very low key, but that is how I like it. As I often say, there is always a party on my birthday, but I’m usually not invited ;) And truthfully, introvert me prefers it that way.
That is my smile for the week, celebrating another birthday.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).
In 2020 the birds ensured I always smiled and here’s how https://travelerinmeblog.wordpress.com/2021/01/01/2020-with-winged-hope/
Simplicity and simple things bring joy and peace, that’s how I see it.
Happy New Year Trent!

I enjoy watching birds and saw quite a few in 2020, though admit I enjoy watching the osprey more than any… Happy New Year! I’ll be by to see your post in a few minutes :)

Wow! The birds of prey are interesting in their own way for sure. I can see a Black Kite’s nest from my balcony and I have quite a bit of captures of it’s day to day life. It is fun watching them, rather all the birds, isn’t it! Happy Sunday!

There is something majestic about large birds of prey… On the other hand, thinking of nests, a tiny humming bird had a nest outside of my window this summer, so I was able to see the babies! I did get a few photos, but they were so small….

Wow! I love humming birds. I have only seen them on SM shares.

Hummingbirds are great, and it was so special to see baby hummingbirds!
Was this post linked up to my Weekly Smile post? When I did the recap for the week I didn’t see it so didn’t include you. If it was part of it, I’ll make sure you get added (I do the recaps Monday morning (my time zone)).

Well Happy Birthday to YOU! OK, I’m 2 days late, but still….HAPPY BIRTHDAY anyway. I’m glad you had a nice day, just the way you want it to be. When you were a kid, was trick or treating the way you celebrated your birthday? Did you think, when you were very young, that all of it was just for you? What a cool day to have a birthday!

Thanks! I think I had one birthday party as a kid. We lived in a rural area outside a small town, so there was a little trick or treating (a lot when I was a little kid – we lived in town until I was 6). As slightly older kid and a teen I occasionally went to costume parties, but they had zero to do with my birthday. Even in my earliest memories of Halloween and my birthday, they were two separate things.

My big smile this week is starting Nano (National Novel Writing Month), and somehow reaching my first goal of 10 on day 1! Wow! Now, that was exciting. Still trying to figure how I did it, though.

Well I’m sending you a slightly belated “Happy Birthday” wish, but I’m adding wishes for a very HAPPY YEAR as well. Love the photo of the autumn leaves with snow. There’s just something really special about that combination. A photographer friend of mine captured one a few years ago with a little park area showing several gold and red-leaved trees with snow on the ground and the fallen leaves covering the snow. It’s so pretty.

Thanks! I agree that the colorful autumn leaves does work well with snow in photography – I think because winter is a very monochrome season, so the color brings it to life.
